Yes, absolutely. It's a shame it doesn't go both ways. Since we're in the minority we really need more of them to be more aware about us than the other way around.

I think we like to be valued for our knowledge and can take it personally when someone rejects our knowledge or information, like it's a rejection or invalidation of ourselves, but the rage thing seems like an out-of-proportion reaction. I've never felt the need to punch anything.
It sounds like you received some faulty catechism. That is definitely not a teaching of the Church, official or otherwise. No one should participate in a religion unquestioningly - ever. Whether or not they're INTPs is irrelevant.
This book helped me tremendously. Also, I tried hard to be an ESFJ for most of my young life and came away from that with some usable skills, small talk was one of them. I hate it but it can be useful at times.
