Finished. Seems OK. I upgraded the PHP to 8 a few weeks back and gave in time to settle; PHP is generally annoying. This upgrade was done completely mechanically through an upgrade button [ admin/tools/check for updates ] whereas it used to be downloading the ( now ) 14 MB package...

In an hour the mentioned upgrade to the current version of Xenforo shall happen. As with most upgrades, no reason to expect anything marvellous, nor any expectation anything bad shall occur. At: 3 pm 2023:02:23 GMT So prolly best not to be about for an hour after.

Hmmm. I just tried the hideous old Mozilla trick of disabling all add-ons, and most of the edit set are back. Can't really tell how different, since it is obviously the new Xenforo way... I hate change. Anyway will slowly enable each in turn until the interfering add-on blocks the edit set...
