Just curious, because of the George Zimmerman thread.

An anonymous poll, so you can't be racially profiled (at most, this forum can  ).

Where is your poll?

I personally am a mutt.

I don't know all of the races I am.

I look like a tan white guy.

I was adopted by another family so I know very little about my race background.

All I know for sure is that I am 25% Potawatomi Native American.

Because of my light toned skin I would assume that I am at least 75% European.

Where are your question marks?

What about some question marks?

Proper punctuation? Why on earth start now?

Perhaps it is a personal idiom.

Where are your question marks?

What about some question marks?

I wasn't paying attention to my punctuation.

The second question has the same answer.

However, my first question is resolved.

I am still wondering were the option for multiracial is.

Were is the multiracial option?

Multiracial is a common type so it should be represented.

I'm 50ish percent English and 50ish percent Sicilian, with touches of other things like Austrian. I'm your standard well blended American of European descent.

Why are native americans and aboriginals in the same category? I never got why these race classifications use such broad terms.

Most definitely. Mutts, half-breeds, quadroons, mongrels, mulattoes, Eurasians, octaroons and other combos are becoming more common. In fact it might well do to post your DNA but I don't have mine. I've heard a large percentage of one European country's population have Genghis Khan in their DNA but I forget which country. Hungary?

Slavic + Scandinavian + Germanic = Pomeranian. Born in Gaucho's Land.

I think that's my ethnic group. My race is the human race but I wish I was a vulcan.

At least meaning I am guessing.

I have no way of knowing one way or the other. So, I made a guess.

I honestly don't know.

Dad: half Macedonian, half Greek
Mum: half Italian, half Irish

I believe the correct terminology is Macedonagretaliarish, but I couldn't find it in the poll options )=

There's quite a notable difference between Southern, Eastern, Central and Northern Europeans. Even within Russia you'd have to have at least three different classifications for the variety in the populace...

LOL :)

Lot of honkie's crackers ah.

I am culturally white American raised in an adoptive in a generational German/English American home.

I could easily pass for full blooded European and I look close enough to my adoptive parents that any outsider would easily assume that they were my biological parents.

It is only on closer expect were you would see a darker shade of skin and hair. As well as some facial characteristics common to east coast native Americans.

Also strangely enough my skin tone is more reddish then the peach tone white Europeans. I say "Strangely" because native Americans don't normally have red tone skin there skin is more dark olive like there Asian ancestors. My skin however, does have a very slight reddish tone caused by the mixing my my gene pools. It's a cool fact about me.

Surprisingly enough when I was growing up I was often called a 'wog' despite being very fair of skin and hair.

How many races are there?

I've never understood those that claim there is only one race (or none). According to that logic there would also only be one breed of dog. Obviously there is only one species but there are many races/breeds.

The categorisations for race and species etc. are quite slippery.

If I put multiracial, too many people would fall in that category.

I have been as international as I can. In my country, you get to pick your race as Chinese, Malay, Indian or others.

By this poll, almost all of my countrymen would be of the same race, which would make us seem misleadingly homogeneous.

So I should think that this poll is fair. Makes everyone unhappy.

I'm also Jewish, but I "look" Celtic. Race has never much mattered to me, but I am interested in genealogy.

"Asian" and "Hispanic" have to be the stupidest categories ever. If a dark Hindu is similar to a light Shinto, and if a Dominican is similar to an Argentine, then we actually don't know what we are talking about. Not to mention the countless African tribes and the blending of Aryan, Turkic, and Mongol peoples as well as the differences between Nordic and Celtic and Gothic tribes.

I recommend making your own categories, unless you wanted only to comment that these categories are so inaccurate.

Making your categories saves you the trouble of going through and criticising all the other categories that could possibly apply.

My mother is/was Rutian Twi'lekan and my father is/was Y'Bith
Seeing some people giving their ethnic background:
Mother: 25% Kashubian, 25% German, 50% Polish-Lithuanian
Father: 25% Silesian, 25% Lithuanian, 50% Polish

according the to the genealogy records, 99 point something % Korean...with likely some Chinese/Mongolian/Japanese/Russian mixed in.

Its been probably said, but how come there is nothing for "Hispanic" or "Spanish descent" or whatever is the correct term, otherwise there is nothing in the poll for people who don't see themselves as white/black/aborigine and are from South America?

Just to add to that confusion: People often don't distinguish between racial and cultural differences.

I am surprised, however, that there aren't categories for Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans and especially Ferengi. I personally know a lot of Ferengi, although none of them are my friends.

:cthulhu: I think this is an early prototype of a Klingon warbird.

So far as I can tell I'm a product of genes that at least came through Great Britain and Ireland. That really doesn't limit the possibilities, though, does it? Romans, Vikings, a few half-drowned Spanish from the Armada, people from around the world brought there in dribs and drabs as novelties during the colonial expansion - really, geographic genealogy can be misleading.
