And yeah, just because you have been fortunate enough to avoid depression, doesn't mean the rest of us are so fortunate, ourselves. But I do think that, regardless, we should all learn to try to look at the world from a brighter perspective. It's so easy to get lost in all the gloominess.

I haven't avoided depression, I've simply dealt with it and moved on. Sometimes well, sometimes poorly. I've been addicted to Tylenol PM because my depression wouldn't allow me to sleep. However, my depressions have a very obvious cause. When you get divorced, the divorce is likely the cause. When you finally realize you love the perfect woman and tell her, just to discover she has a new boyfriend, that's probably what's making you depressed. I identified the cause and dealt with it in every case. Just because life sucks doesn't mean it always will.

I've been depressed, I simply haven't had a depression without an obvious cause, which was omnipresent and unavoidable. That's the kind of depression I can't understand.

The way I see it, Yeti's humor is more that of a.....let's say a "bully". To me it seems he is the kind of type that would go around calling his friends jerks and generally insult them when they screw up. He seems to be laughing at people, not with them. That comes off as arrogance and ignorance. He means what he says. That's the impression he gives me. Maybe this is a faulty impression, in such case maybe he should consider holding off the humor to people get to know him.

When my friends hurt themselves or do something stupid, I laugh at them (depending on the degree of damage done. I won't laugh at a broken arm, but a scrape from falling flat on your face is funny). And they laugh when I do it. We all laugh, because it's funny. I laugh when I fall, and they do when they do. I'm sorry to have offended your mighty ego by laughing at people, but I'm fair in it. I do not intend to treat people maliciously, I simply presumed the egos around these parts weren't as fragile as pop-cicles.

If you can't laugh at yourself, don't laugh.

Actually, I don't think Yeti had any such motives at all. He didn't think this through, he just wrote it on a whim.

Yeti has, as I mentioned, been condescending pretty much since he walked through the door. Judging by this, it's hard to conclude that this was all in good humor. He also shows an astonishing degree of general obliviousness.

I did write this on whim... under the impression you weren't all such babies. I thought I was writing to people without their heads up their asses.

Yeah, I'm certainly oblivious. I'll be the first to admit I'm socially naive. This thread helps to illustrate it. I suppose I may, in the future, write as though I'm speaking to children. We wouldn't want anyone's feelings hurt, after all. I appreciate having made this thread for it's dashing of my delusion of being amongst rational adults.

I find this whole thread so bizarre. I hadn't even noticed SpaceYeti's purported abrasiveness aside from an increasing tendency towards sardonic ellipses (".....and you think that's gonna stop me punk/bitch/faggot?"). I did notice a bunch of members ignoring what I thought were fairly valid points in other threads, if occasionally (only occasionally!) worded aggressively, and instead attacking him. Even the OP here didn't strike me as all that offensive - and I also didn't see much humour in it, more like a guy telling his mates to get their game together with a friendly punch. Or something.

Sort of weird that it's gotten to 3 pages already. (Not weird that I'm helping.) It really doesn't seem to merit all that much thought - or rather the OP/Yeti doesn't. I guess the issues raised are pretty important. ("There's a lot of pus in that penis, young man!") Yeah, wash it off with some good clean pussy.

Its Spaceyeti's fault, he is the one who got the INTPs all stirred up. I was done after i posted a few things but there are plenty of other people who apparently wanted a peice of the action.

He constantly comes back to insist we are babies and insult the forum also, which beyond anything else is what bothers me, which is why i havent said much since earlier in the thread, there is no point. If he is going to assume that INTPs are emotional, thats fine, but if he is so logical, why does he continue to post.

And as for INTPs being emotional, i cant deny that i can easily be hurt, but only by a select few people who know just the right buttons to push, Spaceyeti is more or less is just a pest, i originally responded to his OP not because i was emotionally comprimised, more because i hate blatant ignorance, i grew up with an INTJ so i have heard worse but its still irritating.

When it comes down to it though, im sure he is a cool guy, he did say he is fairly popular in real life in another thread, which i doubt he is lying about, but he just doesnt approach this forum with the same respect i think a lot of us do. Or maybe he did, and doesnt now, but that is beside the point.

What I don't understand is why people emphasize so much on the "striking" reactions. There were some, but a meager few is really just a slight inconsistency with the equation.(If you know what I mean.)

I don't know why, but I'm getting the idea that people are exaggerating and overdramatizing on the whole "INTP's retaliate" idea. Most of the replied points here are cooled and objective. I don't see much "stirring up" or "sensitive thread".

I did that in my last post, sure, but I didn't do it before then, unless you count the first post. The first post was a joke, my last one I showed sincere irritation. I mean, come on, we're INTPs! We're word smiths! You can't handle a few words? I guess I just presumed other INTPs were like me, in that I shrug off insults. They're just words. If they're true, I have nothing to defend, and if they're false, they don't matter.

Yes you can't ignore it but argue for the sake of it. I love this post... the first 3 posts were so volatile. SpaceYeti writes in this ESFJ or ESFP style ( dont know, happy,idealistic, motivated). And we have emotions bursting in like as if the Three Gorges Damn were to be actually damned.

It is only till later, people start writing calmly and decisively, understand the the provocations intended.

All I can think is, humanity, real emotions, thought INTPs just die at the age of 16 or 17. Personally mine was at 18, lost the ability to give a shit.

The most entertaining thread yet. I used to get offended by the SpaceYeti on his other posts, but this one is perfect.

I can think of several threads similar to this one that have popped up in the last few months. Toad was responsible for several in his day. What's really interesting about this thread is the sheer volume of responses and page views. It draws something out of the community. Why has this one caught people's attention? Is there some implanted barb that we INTPs can't put our fingers on and yet rubs us raw continually? OR is it that the forum has been so quiet and we are so bored that a simple thread meant as a moment's distraction has maintained our attention longer than it should have?

No, being drained by people is a result of lower Fe (tertiary in ENTP's case). Extroverted doesn't mean highly sociable in MBTI, it just means your top function is stimulated by the environment. ENTPs may appear to be stimulated by people because socialising provides a lot of instant information they can play off with Ne - this is not the same as being energised by socialising (making bonds).
