To strengthen its scientific credentials, the Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin.

Looks like the last desperate efforts of adaptation to survive of people who realize that as science covers the spaces where superstition used to hide with knowledge, it leaves the world with no place for them.

The Church has been on board for a long, long time. The point is that the three premises of Darwinian evolutionary theory have nothing whatsoever to say, directly, about the (original) creation of life.

And, even for those who mistake Darwinism and Big Bang cosmology (a confusion I've never been able to understand--just how does one make that kind of blunder), there's still no problem for the Church. The currently-accepted rules governing entropy and the like are not inconsistent with an omnipotent being.

I've found the die-hard atheists just as frustrating as the mushy-brained creationists, honestly.

Metaphysics, as an old professor of mine used to say, gives up precision for the sake of being able to talk about more. Unlike any of the sciences, which gives up scope of topic in order to preserve precision. I, for one, prefer metaphysics.

Yeah, but i think mud is out of ther question right? And so is the posibility of the earth being created in 6 days and all species just poping out of nowhere, isnt it?Oh, the church does have several problems with Darwin, maybe not directly, but with its implications .
The only way to adapt the bible to science is to consider it metaphorical, which goes against what the bible says about itself.
Abiogenesis works perfectly with evolution, and the only argument creationist have against it is that its too unlikely, right, like they know anything about the subject. Abiogenesis is perfectly posible, the details are being worked on, its just a matter of time.

Yep, but atheism isn't die-hard. It's just saying that there probably definately is no living God. Anybody who says 'there is absolutely no God and I can prove it', at least at the minute, is an eigit.

Here's a good Douglas Noel Adams quote; "People saying that the world was built perfectly for life is like a puddle saying that this hole in the ground was built perfectly to suit it".
Mehehe.

Yeah, I remember that. He took that analogy further, with reasonable success. The Salmon of Doubt is worth reading.

aaaaaaaaahhhhhh...creationists, my first question when I heard of these people was...:

"what exactly are they creating?"

Answer: A whole lot of annoyance and absence of logic.

I have Texas cousins, I know. My dad's family basically shunned him for becoming a scientist, I had big fun bringing my Genetics text book with me on vacation there. One of my cousins was seriously considering burning it before I told her I would sue her.
