A lot of criticism against INTP's or those with similar traits, is this idea that learning for the sake of learning or "intellectual masturbation" as some say is useless. Even INTP's fall into this trap of whether they should live for self or the world and often get depressed or anxious to figure it out. If you value utilitarianism as a philosophy of life as does most of society it sure is useless, but what if you personally do not? Sure learning how to fix a car or performing heart surgery is useful for a lot of people and honorable practices, no denying that.

What if you just want to learn, speculate, and read for pure fun. Education as an idea was originally based on learning to contemplate, not training focused as it is today. Of course you still need to make a living and survive in the world but why worry about utility? Is it inferior Fe or possibly just culture telling us to be this way?

It's Ti

since it's the dominant function you feel most comfortable when your idea-palace keeps growing. theres no need to actually do something unless by doing, theres a chance that your Ne will produce ideas that your Ti will use to build the palace. That's the way I figure it.

additionally to all that, you might be preconditioned to feel bad if youre not helpfull to the community. Like if your parents told you everyday "helping people is your number one goal", you'd believe it, but it's not a necessity that comes from your type.

I don't see Utilitarianism as a bad thing though. It's this attitude of theirs that gives me a chance to just be me and not have to do everything myself. :D

Yeah I'm not saying it is wrong, I would argue it is actually necessary in a society like ours. Point is that certain folks shouldn't worry or get caught up in the idea that you have to be utilitarian minded if you don't really want to be. You see it all over this board where fellow INTP's constantly stress over their life and I think it's related to what I am talking about. I also believe it is an aspect of the Ti vs Fe duality.
