This INTP stuff is a scam right ?... and you guys have bought right into it

I've met gazillions of people.. got to know them and NEVER in my life met someone who I could relate to... although almost everyone I meet can relate to me......
1% ?? yeah right !

I'm not sure what to make of this, the descriptions I've read seem pretty accurate, however I wonder how many people are agreeing for the sake of agreeing... that wouldnt be new either of the pathetic species of humans now would it ?

I do get the feeling whilst reading this forum that alot of the chatter is overtly modest with subconcious undertones of egotism.. something I despise probably more than outright arrogance itself.

What... so the rest of you are constantly called geniuses to your face, yet you know you're actually losers who second guess yourselves at every step ?

Bring it... and relate. !

This INTP stuff is hardly a scam. It's part of the MBTI which was formulated by top notch psychologists Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs several decades ago. It has been a tried and true method of sorting personalities and individual traits for a very long time. Scams simply can't endure the test of time.

I'd also say that we INTPs are very rare. I'm an INTP and I've never met anyone who completely identifies with my personality and tendencies. I'm also quite sure that people wouldn't agree that they are INTP for the sake of agreeing. Most people don't want to agree that they, as INTPs, have little capacity for feelings, or a lack of innate social skills, or an inherent strangeness or nerdiness about them. People don't agree to that just because they can.

I do get the feeling whilst reading this forum that alot of the chatter is overtly modest with subconcious undertones of egotism.. something I despise probably more than outright arrogance itself.

Explain yourself please. How are we egotistical? We do not believe that the world is made to serve us. We don't think we are better than everyone else. Though our abilities are great in some areas, we are grievously lacking in others. I think INTPs as a whole aren't selfish or egotistical in the least because they are quite adaptable and easy going, which would imply a lack of egotism.

I imagine that from an outside view, our posts are on the pretentious side, but only because INTPs tend to have a really wide vocabulary which they love to wield, and a desire to be independent and self reliant. I think the word you're looking for is not egotism, but egoism, a love of being independent, self serving, and having a separate identity.

What... so the rest of you are constantly called geniuses to your face, yet you know you're actually losers who second guess yourselves at every step ?

Everyone has their strokes of genius and their "loser" moments, but you are taking it too far. If you don't like INTPs, why are you posting in the first place? I'll admit it. I, as an INTP, am identified as a smart person by others, and I often do second guess myself over the most trivial things. That does not make me either a genius or a loser.

Someone's an INTP in denial...

I'm more or less here because I'm frustrated with not knowing what I am on the Myers-Brigg scale. It's rather stupid to be concerned about I suppose. My tests are hardly consistent though and I'm similar to several descriptions... Maybe I don't have a personality. O_O It all makes sense now....

As far as it being a scam, well I wouldn't call a personality indicator a scam. That's like calling any other test or quiz a scam. They're not taking my money.... It's really just trivia as far as I can see, but if it has some real reason and rhyme all the more power to it.

Also, I thought INTJ was credited with being the "masterminds".

Mumblin is just being a typical INTP - arguing the other side for the sake of retrieving all of the info from the opposing side. Mumblin may completely agree with us, but that would be no fun. Weasel, you did give some great arguments on our behalf!

Zero, when I took the tests, I never ended up as INTP. But, when I read several descriptions, I saw myself, as if in a mirror. If I chose INTP just because I wanted to be it, well, I could find a whole bunch other personalities I admire and would much rather be!! In fact, I married the personality I'd rather be! In fact, that's the reason why I showed up as my husband's personality on the tests - because I admire it so much, lol! I also showed up as my co-worker's personality type. She's much more driven, focused, gets things accomplished - I *love* that trait! I just can't seem to finish things, myself - it's so frustrating!! Welcome mumblin and zero - glad you're here!

I often have tested other than as INTP, but I'm an INTP. I've tested as ISTJ, INTJ and INFJ, though I'm no NF (and no SJ). Much of the variance is due to the changes I've made in my own life--conscious changes, long after knowing about my type (about which I made discoveries in the late 1980s).

Nice to see the humor in the original post; typical indeed.

Spot on, mumblin. We're all big, self-assessing losers. But the conversation on here is a hoot.

Only an INTP would want to find out they're INTPs...
