Dude
My ears are blocked
Can’t hear a thing
But the sweet music
From what sounds like down the block
Although it’s right in front of me
I’m gonna lose it
This isolation
Via sensational
Distortion
A fortunate
Portion of it
Allows for the magic necessity
A new world
Ahead of me
The mystery, poetry
Get a load of me
Avoiding reality
Seeking a lack of clarity
To avoid the absurdity
You heard of me
I heard of you
Can’t find you
Found the worst of you
In this distorted place of you
You
You do you
I do me
I don’t know you
Sweet
Let go
The clouds will carry us
Through this labyrinth
Heavens counterfeit
We be swaggerin
Through the endless spiral
Of Introspection
We be rivals
Under detection
Of the function of empathy
Helpin’ us understand
Through the reflection of ourselves
Evolution compels us to find
A shell to pick off the sand
I held it in my hand
Put my ear to it
Dammit
That’s the end
Of my makin’ sense
I’m dense
Can’t listen
Because the truth
Can’t be absolute
Even with my bayesian proofs
I lose you too soon
Emptiness follows the context
I’m messed in the way your lesson
Is to let on the rest of
Our little conversations and romance
Elevations of expanse
To freelance the chances of social finance
Making’ it’s way, surviving through the selection
The bias of previous inspections
Into our riddles of identity
The comfortability of completion
Secretions of deletion
The messages I sent to me
A gentle reminder of my identity
Can’t keep it straight
For the sake
Of staying sane
The paradox of living and thinking
I’m thinking
I’d be running away from
Myself in the past
IF the present weren’t so fast
Although it’s a chaotic jumbling of presence
I’m from the past
The entropy allows me to distinguish easily through memory
The past, although the present is so fast
Makes me wonder
Lumberjack, Fun for the cucumber batch
Cumberbatch
Doctor who
Got the idea of reality
Material though changes in alternate realities
Lost in the words I speak now
Stream of consciousness seeks out
Meaning in the sweep out
Of the sweet now
That’s enough for now
I’m out.
Out of within
I’m without in
For the in of the out
Is in its out for the out
Of the in is my out
Of within my doubt
Of the sins in
My out
Don’t crouch behind the line
Of quality for the binary quantity
Of truth is as good as the view I own
Without whats within and without in within
For without in would the out be within the without of the out
The in of the out is without the withins of in and out
I make sense now
Wow
Don’t really care in this stream
Its a dream
Of what I deem important to me
I’m done
I’m within.

Imagining hands doing stuff. Like they're playable characters, doing things like opening cans and using eating utensils. Very weird!

I've thought of making a computer game that does that. Hands would be the whole schtick. Haven't gotten around to it. Haven't got something other than the gimmick / fascination of hands.

have you ever written a negative review on amazon? does it scare you shitless to assume that you are being hated for reducing the financial gain of someone else? i feel hautend with the same agression they would haunt a shoplifter with, cops, guns, taser, etc. my body feels anxious like i was tased. even though my review has 4 out of 5 stars. but still, i manage to associate the product with myself, my own priorities and preferences. if the product falls short relative to my needs, then the fault is surely inside of me, if you ask the salesperson. nevermind that 10 to 50% of customers have the same priorities and preferences and subjectivity is the only criteria that could possibly matter, because if we were objective machines, we would never care to buy a single product on amazon. its so easy to dismiss a human being. and i was terribly traumatized by those who do that.

Everyone votes for their slice of the pie. If life, death, and oppression aren't at stake, then that's the way it should be. You aren't required to have everyone else's interests in mind; what about YOU?

I have a problem.

I bought myself a new keyboard - a white Roccat Isku FX. I ordered it online. Next day delivery and well packed. Lovely responsive piece of kit that improved my gaming, was comfortable and looked great with the rest of my rig.

But. A few days later, the "E" button doesn't work. So now I have to call them up and complain, repackage it and get them to fix or replace it. I'm not sure gaming to deal with them and do this is worth the £50 it would cost to simply get a new one elsewhere.

INTP problems

If you don't deal with it, other consumers will be victimized. They may be victimized anyways, so it would behoove you to consider the maximum amount of pressure you can exert upon the company, the concessions you can extract from them, when making your customer service call. Otherwise, if your mentality is your moment-to-moment convenience at your (high?) income level, then you are a market. Do you want to be a market, of dupes?

It wasn't directly from the manufacturer - just a shop. The same model is available at various retailers and I'm pretty certain it's just a fault with this particular item and not an attempt at victimisation. I know I should do, and once I make the call I'll manage. It's just - dealing with customer services and making a complaint isn't something I relish the prospect of doing.

And my income level isn't particularly high, but neither do I really need to worry about paying the bills. Kind of comfortable, given that I don't spend huge amounts of money on socialising and don't have a lot of costly habits.

I know I should do it.

Evertwined, the dusk of mortals
Peers into the dimlit heart
To heaven's gate do go the portals
At world's end when we go to start

A shining wonder in the air looms
A shining star spells out our doom
A gallant shield it breaks in loud booms
A gallant knight enters the tomb

Working round and round, the sound
Of clamours burst the ear in thry
It dries a path amongst the clouds where
We go to drink amongst the gods

And once. Once there. There goes. Goes where?
Around again, it never ends.

The beauty in the green
The stuff that's never seen
Only dreaming
Seamlessly beaming
Light out of purity
Right now it alluded me
It's essence
Makes for perceptions transcendence
My dreams are home
But dude it's me
Home is here
Home is dead
Home is owned
By the dread
Of home
Homesick
The flick
Of a show
Turns on
A world
Beyond this one
Predicted Predicament
Continual Contingency

Welcome home
I'm sick of it
Welcome home

As you can see, his wiring is complete and he's essentially finished. Just a a few touch ups on his paint work and programming the wheels into his behaviour.

I'm not sure I've wired the wheels in correctly yet - but the motion sensors, voice synthesis and the home made laser on his right arm are working perfectly. And he can even stream movies and music, and has a battery gauge on his right arm (which is his power source).

The Terminator T-3.142 is almost complete.

Well, here's what they call the slippery slope

Quit job makes unhappy parents- less support- stress- no money-back kicked out of apartment or house- living on the streets- starve.

Notice the phrase slippery slope. There is no guarantee the above will happen. You might buy a lotto ticket and win the lottery.

[Silina: there is this thing called servitors, of course, we are mostly uninterested in it but basically, it's a personified non-sentient habit. You create a human-like representation(basically a robot) that you program to perform some specific task. And instead of you doing an arduous task you have it do it. Sounds kinda neat, if you are into messing with the mind in that direction, we are more into the whole fully sentient thing.]

Does anyone know what the theory is that if there is evidence to the contrary of something, or rather that the evidence given is disproven, that people generally think it isn't true even though it is true?

you mean if someone speaks of a true cause and effect relationship using false details to explain it and the details of the explanation are shown to be illusory, then the cause and effect relationship will be ignored along with the explanation? i call that stupidity.

example: "vitamin C from fruit and ascorbic acid is not the same, one heals you, the other one is potentially toxic" disproving the explanation: "duh, vitamin c and ascorbic acid are by definition the same thing, look it up idiot!" -> concluding to ignore empirical insight into cause and effect, assuming that "swallowing ascorbic acid is as good as eating fruit because the dictionary says so"

logic > experience? = prejudice!

also: "its easy to fool a man but impossible to convince a man that he was fooled."

if i understand you correctly and taking the above wisdom into account,

i assume that people didn't even know of the cause and effect relationship until they learned there was evidence against a certain explanation of this relationship. that explaination-negating-explaination was thus the first narrative they adopted about the subject, ever.

so it was the original fooling of the fool that can now never be admitted to have been foolish, for the fool must not be revealed to be a fool.

they chose sides and now they cant give up their identification with it.

or do you mean scientism?
taking positivism too far.

"if there is no proof of anything, it is automatically nonsense or else there would be proof of it."

i always say: all scientific thinking starts with a hypothesis. creativity. imagination. not with finding fault/disproving something, not with asking for a source and finding fault in it.

critically think about your mother.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positivism#Antipositivism

also could be a strawman. if the "evidence" has disproved details of the explanation, that were of no intended significance or truth, then that disproval has not addressed the truly intended point.

example: when a simplistic metaphor is invented to quickly illustrate something incredibly complex. like "your fat cells are the more hungry for fat, the more empty they are" strawman argument: "fat cells do not experience hunger you idiot" this is also an ad hominem because it implies: "you simplify because you don't know what u are talking about, therefore you are stupid, therefore what you say is wrong"

my theory is that everything in life comes down to being either an ad hominem or a strawman :D

Scattered thoughts:

The Bell Curve: Does it exist when a seasoned MBTI vet takes the test? It seems to when people are naive to the fact that -- not just 1/16 personality types -- will be tattooed on their chest, but this type also generalizes to intellectual ability, interests and hobbies...package deal. So ridiculous.

And, I'm running data through my tired brain, and I always land at a similar conclusion. So, shenanigans.

I'm also thinking about dealing with a surreal world. I'm questioning myself over and over. If what seems logical enough is ignored, then bias is present.

I normally like to believe in the future of humanity. We'll grow up as a race one day and won't destroy ourselves. Then I scrolled Facebook and lost my faith in humanity altogether. People sharing pictures of bacon in solidarity. People complaining that someone posting a picture of something cool they did over the weekend is making them feel depressed. The comments sections underneath science articles where they are arguing without even reading the article. And I can't for the life of me figure out why people click "share" on every meme they see. People constantly sharing every "fact" they see and believing it without question.

It makes me wonder if humans have always been this stupid, but now the internet has given them all somewhere to show it.

I wonder what would happen if someone threw a bible into a planet where they can read... Would this planet have some sort of religious system based on the text after a couple thousands of years? Would they have a pope or some kind of reformation because of corruption? Etc..

Why would they take it seriously? If they could already read, wouldn't they already have a system of values or a belief system in place? Would they take it seriously or just think it was the worst written fantasy they'd ever seen?

If you dropped the Harry Potter series would you find a Wizarding school there in a hundred years? Or if you gave them Lord of The Rings would they build Gondor? If you landed in a space ship and appeared god like telling them they have to follow this book, perhaps they would. But would the contents of the book matter? After all, the contents of the bible are pretty ludicrous.

Which parts do you think is ludicrous? The bible is a collection of literature, not a single religious text.

Also my post wasnt supposed to be too realistic.. My aim was more asking whether history would play itself out differently if even the texts which were important and pivotial were the same. You have to admit, the bible is the single most influential book to have ever been written. It pretty much dominated rational discourse after the fall of the Roman empire and onwords, till the Renaissance. (Thats like 1600 years)

Well, the impact of the Bible dropped on a foreign planet (once the language barrier was crossed) would depend in part about whether the text was even relevant culturally and psychologically. It's a "human" book in terms of orientation; would ants, if they read it, benefit from such a thing since their culture and instincts are alien? or squids? (for example).

Unless you're back to THIS kind of thing (gag):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsRo-m9muFE

I do agree with the relevance of the Bible for many centuries, although it seems to be less relevant in some ways now (esp Old Testament) in terms of our understanding of the culture that wrote it, and information gleaned from literary criticism and some archaeological evidence (versus just swallowing it wholesale) and so forth... For a long time, with no way to evaluate the veracity, and a small pool of data to work with, it just existed as its own source of truth and guidance and was accepted as such.

Now, in that particular episode the planet had a parallel development with Earth and therefore the US constitution was written independently on their world, too. Up until the late 20th century, when the cold war that was ended peacefully on our Earth erupted into Nuclear war on there's. And, for reasons that make absolutely no sense, everyone there now lives for years.

The episode you'd be thinking of would be A Piece of The Action, where a hundred years before the Enterprise's arrival another starship left a book about a 1920's mob which the planet used as a biblical basis for their culture from there on.

I'm glad a true Star Trek geek is here to correct the record. :D

... but yeah, I faintly remember that episode too. Sigh. Maybe I just need to watch something else... like "Spock's Brain."

Isn't that the one where the aliens steal Spock's brain to power there society or rule it? Then McCoy kind of has an exaggerated nervous breakdown over the amount of nerves he has to wire back in.

Yes, I'm a true geek. During much of my teenage years I used Star Trek (along with certain other sci-fi shows and what limited computer games I had) as a substitute for human contact. I haven't seen TOS since I was a child, but my irksome memory means I still remember every episode. It takes the fun out of re-watching things. I wish my memory was that good when I'm trying to remember where I put my keys or what on Earth I went into a room to do.

In the STTOS episode "A Piece of the Action", the highly imitative Iotian culture models their society off of 1 book about gangsters. The book in question is called "The Book" and I think is kept in a glass case. Spock discovers it is an Earth book "Chicago Mobs of the Twenties", and determines it was left by the crew of a Federation expedition that had visited earlier. The key plot premise is not just that a book was left, but that the indigenous culture is "highly imitative". Why the Iotians are imitative, is never explained, but in the STTOS universe aliens are allowed to have weird quirks.

That was explained in-episode. Those who actually survived the nuclear holocaust, had genetic propensity for longer life. The harshness of a radiated environment "selected for" longevity genetics. Wouldn't call it a slam dunk of evolutionary reasoning, but it's not impossible either.

As I remember - The other Captain who had originally landed there and was supporting the eastern descendants believed the immortality was a result of a special property of the planet that meant none of them ever got ill, and that without any illnesses we would live for centuries like they do. Kirk later on corrected him that the inhabitants simply lived longer there.

Even if it is an evolutionary bi-product - Star Trek was originally set in the late 2260's, so they could not have been running parallel to Earth as it would have taken many millennia to select for longevity of that magnitude.

McCoy issued the stern correction, actually. It is not for you to say how fast humans can evolve under given selective pressures. The idea that all evolutionary change must occur slowly is basically false, as can be demonstrated in a lab with fruit flies.

Something weird happened today. Well, I thought it was weird anyway.

Guy I work with. Sits opposite me, we chat and debate a lot about weird shit. I've come to the belief he's INFP due to the stances he takes in debates - particularly emotions. He thinks emotional suppression is a terrible thing as emotions will eventually be too much etc. Interestingly, he won't talk about his feelings per-set, but he might as well have a neon sign above his head telling all what he is feeling as it is so blindingly obvious. I, on the other hand, will share tactically what I think will make people comfortable as long as I don't regard it as too personal and could probably do with a neon sign above my head so that people can tell what is otherwise invisible.

Anyway. Recently his mother passed away. Now, as I consider him my friend, I offered my condolences and gave him a couple of days space before slowly going back to our usual discourse, whilst being a little more careful and offered any work related assistance that would take the load off him and make his life easier for a little while. I considered this the best way to offer help as I'm not exactly brilliant at offering any support, and such support would be rejected anyway as he's quite private.

Now he took a couple of days off for the funeral. And weirdly, today our office manager got up, donned a black tie and went to the funeral. I thought this very strange. While he was gone, I asked the others in the office if they would want this, or if I was the only one that would be uncomfortable with such a thing. We all agreed that we would not want anyone from work attending the event if it were us and couldn't understand why when they are not particularly close nor has said manger ever met his mother.

I honestly have no idea why. It could be said, "to show support." But why? And how? Maybe indicative of the fact that he has few friends outside of work. But neither do I, and I would certainly not want any one from work going were it my mother. We all thought it equally strange, as the rest of us are definitely introverted thinkers of some description.

Then I recalled a few days ago someone asked me if anyone from our office were going. I said that I didn't think so, and didn't think it would be appropriate at the time. It hadn't even occurred to me that anyone should. Like, it would be so intrusive. Why did he invite his office manager? Or did he not invite him and didn't want to say no when he offered?

Maybe they're gay lovers and you just don't know it. Or otherwise have a relationship of some kind that you're not aware of from your work environment.

That would seem to be one explanation. But I don't believe it is so. I observe behaviour a lot and notice no particular relationship beyond that which is normally professional. Or beyond that which said manager maintains with most of us. Plus, I'm the only one in the office who has this guy's phone number because we sometimes will play computer games online, and at work parties he generally spends the evening talking to me and leaves quite early. Like I said, we sit right by each other.

My explanation is that it was out of respect and he went to represent the office in some way. If that is so, which everyone else seems to accept, is it strange? I wondered if it were strange, but when I asked one of the other guys if he would want the same thing, he replied, "absolutely not," (I think he's INTJ, though).
"So I'm not the only one wondered that?"
"You are not," replied the INTJ.
"No, I wouldn't invite him," said the ISTJ. "It's way too personal."
"No, I wouldn't want any of you there, actually, if it were me, either," I said. "No offence, like."
"None taken," said the INTJ. "Same here."
The ISTJ agreed again and we went back to work and said no more on the subject.

Reading some articles around the internet, it seems that historically, funerals are not regarded as private affairs you need invites for. https://www.everplans.com/articles/how-to-know-if-you-should-attend-a-funeral However, I've read of people wanting to have some part of the day's commemorations be private, and engineering strategies to ensure that happens. Typical practice is to separate the funeral from some kind of reception afterwards.

Actually, that explains a lot. He only attended the service, and not a reception afterwards. So my theory about it being to represent the company in the interest of supporting the guy is probably correct. I guess being INFP he would appreciate his feelings being acknowledged in this way.

I still wouldn't have wanted anyone from work going as I'd consider it private, myself. But then, emotionally supportive gestures aren't something I require and I kind of find then irritating from people who haven't earned the right to see any deeper than my public persona. Anything more than a simple sentence of condolence would be personal for me, basically. So this is a little alien to me.

In a forum nominally full of I's, I'm hardly shocked. The broader world seems to have devised more inclusive funerary practices.

Today's thoughts during exam

I should have got chai
I want chai
Apple spice chai exists, the world is a beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die
Mm some people want to be creamated because they don't like the thought of their dead bodies falling apart
I love that though
I can't wait to decompose

I like that saying

I'll likely just write it in a notebook and then forget.
Listening to Hozier
So tired

Why are there so many Nazis on this site
I find nazism more alluring than communism
Damn commies
Stalin
There's this girl in my global class who keeps going on about how much she loves Stalin. Saying he's cute and he's not a bad guy he's just being himself
That class makes me feel homicidal
Everyone in it is really stupid except this nerdy dude who just plays on his ds the whole class long and a quiet Indian kid

Mm
No nazis are really bad. They just have .. they're more like, temptingly powerful. Godlike
Stalin makes me think of death and grey and cold barren landscapes, guns and starvation and tears
When I think of Nazis it's like this hot powerful strength and red and gold and black.
Hydra from Marvel
Power.

But ya know when I bring my morals into the mix and get off /pol/ it's shit. Not okay. And I couldn't do any of that shit, or put up with someone who does. I just wanna sleep
Then again Hannibal Lecter is so alluring. I'm so tired
Okay.

Thoughts about Christianity, morals, and what is sin and what isn't
I'm more scared to come out as Christian than gay/lgbt whatever. Like

I'm pretty gay ((as in lesbian but ick "gay" sounds better)) girls r great.
I'm going to be 17 in like 6 months ?? Whack
Remembering being in Canada
Edmonton. I love it there. I could live there. Not forever, but for some years. It's nice. A spread out city. Not a tourist city.

Is being gay a sin? I don't think so-- it's like, being straight isn't a sin. Indulging in ~sinful~ thoughts or actions tho is sin. That's probably the same w gay people
Like ok you're attracted to who you're attracted to. Fine, like legit okay. But don't get all freaky cuz ya can't have kids anyway and sex is just for having kiddos
Neh

In my catholic school in like eighth grade I think, the priest came in and gave us a lecture about, among other things, why it was wrong to be gay
We asked him abt it again cuz he just sorta said "it's not natural"
His response was going up to our face and making O's with each hand, mashing them together to represent lesbians and saying "iT DOESNT GO TOGETHER" then jamming a finger from each hand together "IT DOESNT W O R K"

Also he started the lecture with "Everybody sins sometimes. Even me, I mean I'm a priest- but sometimes, *whispers* I like to watch the Simpsons."
He looked like a hedgehog and is probably under 5 feet tall
