I ran into the Jung test and mistested as INTJ.
I went into that forum and after a few days posting in that nuthouse I retested and found myself in the company of the slightly-less nutty posters here.

Go ahead, Make me feel welcome.

Haven't you been here awhile?

Maybe I'm just unstuck in time. I'll tell you hi last month if that's the case.

Isn't that sane?

Oh, and hiya!

Believe it or not yes, having posted in the INTJ forums for a while I saw see how mobs might form and execute them at any given moment.
Not to say I endorse such a thing, but anyway hello.

Don't worry I'll make your greetings retroactive, I'm just that awesome.

Welcome CL, I was worried that you might be a bit too sane for this forum but after finding you posted a thread about bacon it seems my worries were unfounded.

Oh and I'd like a glass of Laphproaig, if you have some Prof.

Ah very good sir! Quite the request, buttt I should have a bottle lying around here somewhere. :)

yes yes, here it is, had to dust it off. rocks? neat? mixed?

You know my dad's side is from county cork, my great grandparents came over to the states hm a bit before 1900 I think. Honestly I don't know too much about Ireland as I probably should, hopefully I'll get the chance to visit it one day. How's the scenery, have you always lived there?

Neat, a good scotch shouldn't be diluted.

Born and bred. The scenery is...nice, we've got trees and rocks and field upon field of nothingness. The cities here probably couldn't compare to the cities in Missisppi, but they've got everything you need for entertainment, bars, brothels and...well that's all you really need. It's just like anyplace else really, only different.

Just cause your grandpappy was Irish doesn't mean you are so you shouldn't worry if you don't care about Ireland. Anyway, I hate those Americans who think just because their uncle's sister in law's dog is Irish means that they are as well.

I'm totally with you on this one Fury..

Is that a surprise?

I can't even walk down the freakin giants causeway without getting lectured by a horde of Yanks about their heritage.

it's very simple, if you weren't born in Ireland, you ain't Irish.

haha well, I am proud of my heritage but only describe myself as irish if asked about my family history. As far as mississippi, you have no idea how hilarious it is to hear someone describe it positively. Granted it has a few good people and I enjoy the lack of crowds. The college I'm in is pretty decent, but after graduation I plan to move on.

We're pretty much one of the worst states in the U.S., lots of backwards folk (lingering racism and a lot of religious foolishness), small towns mostly rural, 2 or 3 cities worth visiting.. maybe. Obesity, we're #3 or 4. Same with teen pregnancy, high school dropout rate, the list goes on..

Just to piss of Morgoth I think I'm gonna go buy a bottle of scotch, a bag of potatoes and wear a green/white/orange shirt and go around claiming to be irish ;) Oddly enough this wouldn't be much different from a normal day for me .. haha

Course we're almost all immigrants over here, so usually the only way to belong to a unique culture is to go a few generations back. 'American' kinda got claimed by the native americans ya know.

Huh, I had no idea, I saw that Mississippi had a population of nearly three million so i assumed it had some big cities. So you live in a cultural wasteland, I can sympathize, for most of my childhood I lived in middle of the country, where you had to travel five miles just to get to the next house.

Melkor, isn't Irish, he lives in Northern Ireland, he's practically a Brit

I know Laphroaig is made in Islay, Snowqueen, I can enjoy whiskey, no matter where it comes from.

Hmmm.

This brings up an interesting question. If a cat lives in Ireland it's still just a cat. You wouldn't go around calling it an Irish cat, it's just a cat. Unless the cat was a special breed created in Ireland and officially named an Irish cat. But even then, if this cat were in Mexico, it would still be called an Irish cat.

Only humans get branded by their places of origin, no?

Therefore, since Melkor is not human, can he really be Irish?

Well if we was made in Ireland he would be, check his tag, they are normally located somewhere on the body that’s out of the way or rarely seen.

[ponders whether it's worth being pedantic about whisky/whiskey]

It can't be whiskey if it's scottish.

[hmm that may have been the wrong decision]

Scotch is a type of whiskey, just as ale and mead are types of beer.

Whiskey is Irish and whisky is Scottish - aka scotch.

Actually, that's both correct and incorrect at the same time, whisky and whiskey are the same thing but spelt differently. Scotch is a type of whisky/whiskey.

The spelling whisky (plural whiskies) is generally used for those distilled in Scotland, Wales, Canada, and Japan, while whiskey (with an e; plural whiskeys) is used for the spirits distilled in Ireland and in the United States as well. A 1968 BATF directive specifies "whisky" as the official U.S. spelling, but allows labeling as "whiskey" in deference to tradition, and most U.S. producers still use the latter spelling. A mnemonic used to remember which spelling is used is that "Ireland" and "United States" have at least one "e" in their names, while "Scotland," "Canada" and "Japan" do not. International law reserves the term "Scotch whisky" to those whiskies produced in Scotland; Scottish law specifies that the whisky must be aged for a minimum of three years, in oak casks. Whiskies produced in other countries in the Scotch style must use another name. Similar conventions exist for "Irish whiskey," "Canadian whisky," and "Bourbon Whiskey." In North America, as well as in Continental Europe the abbreviated term "Scotch" is usually used for "Scotch Whisky." In England, Scotland, and Wales, the term "Whisky" almost always refers to "Scotch Whisky", and the term "Scotch" is rarely used by itself. The Welsh version is wysgi (though the forms chwisgi and wisgi also exist).
Yours sincerely

That's exactly what I was saying, whisky and whiskey are the same thing but spelt differently.
Ale and mead are made and spelt differently than larger but they are all kinds of beer.

No you didn't you said
Scotch is a type of whisky/whiskey.
If whisky (not whiskey) is always Scottish and only Scottish whisky can be called Scotch then whiskey can never be Scotch.

:):D:)

Having said all that. If we're talking blended, I'll go for an Irish whiskey any day over a Scotch. Far superior. The Scots might produce fabulous single malts but we are rubbish at blends.

My favourite single malt is Bruichladdich which tastes curiously like seaweed.

Christopher, what was it like over there (INTJ forum), more explicitly.

It was like seeing people who weren't quite people.
There seemed to be a complete lack of an emotional component.
Not so much not getting the cues but seemingly not possessing the emotional component themselves. as such anything that passed logical was deemed as acceptable.
This attitude seems to miss the fact that people are more than the sum of their parts this is disturbing enough with just one person, but a forum full of them is damn near horrifying.

I went over there but didn't feel like digging into it. Can you give a specific example? I think we INTPs are in general stumped by INTJs. It's like they seem so close, but then that J rears its ugly head and we just don't get it.

I know there's another thread about INTJs, but you seem to have something new to say about it.

I guess the best way I would put it is that they appear to be the ultimate cynics.
Knowing the cost of everything and seeing the value of nothing.

One example is a thread they had about trust.
Basically the consensus was that noone could be truly trusted and therefore trusting someone was always verboten.

Heres the thing though, the fact that you can't trust someone but do it anyway is the basis for anyway healthy relationship.

It is one thing to be cognizant of the pitfalls in life its another to define yourself by them.

Hanging around on that site allowed me to see the actual value of things like faith and trust because while they are patently idiotic they are necessary on some level to interact with the people around you in a sensible manner.

They have a thread entitled "The rights of artificial intelligence" so they can't be all that bad.

Okay, so I'm biased.

Damn, are you sure you're not an INTJ, you've got one hell of an eye for detail. You are right, the difference is almost insignificant but you are right. Perhaps the devil really is in the detail

I was going for the broader view just as the fellow who wrote this.

"whiskey(s). The general term covers bourbon, rye, Scotch and other liquors distilled from a mash of grain. For consistency, use this spelling even for liquors (typically Scotch) labeled whisky."

:D Fury - it's about being logical, not about being right. As long as it gets me pissed I don't care! I'd love to go out for a drink with you one day though.

It's one of those stupid things us Scots care about - I expect there's an Irish equivalent. (Although I am only Scottish by formation, of course)

Oh and the plural of whisky is whiskies. :phear:

I'm not annoyed, well maybe a little, I'm just amazed at your accuracy, most INTPs look more at the big picture than the small details.

The fellow I quoted was using the Irish wording for whiskey which has the plural whiskeys.
