Ok I'm curious because all the INTP's I've met smoke. So I wanna know who here smokes and why? I think some of the reasons are it gives me a second to just sit and think. There's something about seeing the smoke swirling around, and breathing in a slow controlled way that lets my mind just wander. Socially I think INTP's smoke because it gives the individual a chance to interact one on one or in small groups, get away from the esfj and maybe have something that resembles a conversation. Also it gives me a good reason to leave the room. I dunno just a few things I noticed, I've definitely had some of my most memorable conversations while holding one of those cancer sticks.


And yes I know they are bad for you. It's a personal choice.

I refuse to smoke, even with close friends; hookah, cigarette, cigar, pipe, etc. The idea of smoke in my lungs sounds very unappealing, and I relish in my health. Smoking just sounds dirty and detrimental to me.

I see no reason to start a harmful habit or preference is all.

I'd be surprised if most INTPs smoke, I'll be interested to see the other results.

(I do like the smell and sight of smoke, btw.)

I'm a reformed smoker. Smoked my last cigarette on 15th January 1984. I occasionally have 'nightmares' in which I've started smoking again and have become addicted ... its a relief to wake up and find it isn't true.

I'll never smoke. Probably something to do with a poster I saw when I was 9 listing ingredients of cigarettes (...ammonia? Tar?) with an interesting picture of a smoker's blackened (with a touch of green) lungs. Stubbornness is one thing, logic is another.

I smoked a little, years ago. It has been so shunned that it wasn't even a consideration again... But lately I've thought about it a bit. Your reasons for smoking are good. Good for emotional health of INTPs maybe.

I tried smoking cigarettes for about a month because of the reasons above. I went through almost a pack, smoking at parties or just hanging out outside. Unless I had been drinking it always made me really nauseous. And then the awful smoke smell that remained on my clothes made it even worse. It tasted bad. I just really did not like it at all.

I smoke hookah when it's available. It's a nice social activity that has a little bit of a fleeting buzz.

I have never been a smoker. I grew up in a house with a smoker and that was about all I needed to hate the stuff.

Can't stand the smell. I actually get ill if I'm around smoke too much. I almost never go out to eat for other reasons, but, back when I did, I avoided places with smoking sections.

From another perspective, I can't really see paying someone else a lot of money to get addicted to breathing poison. Doesn't make much sense.

I don't smoke, nor will I when I'm of the proper age.

And I don't have that much trouble with ESFJs. Well, could be because my sister is one. Interestingly enough, she seems to be of the opinion that I'm much more intelligent than she is. And ironically, her co-worker also said that I look more intelligent than my sister, but that could be because of the clothes (read: dress shirt) I wear.

You know what? My parents both smoke. They've smoked for pretty much their whole lives since being teenagers themselves, but they've always told me and my sister never to start.

However, if I had to pick a form of smoking, I would pick the pipe. Simply because it just seems so much more sophisticated and ancient than cigarettes. And even Sherlock Holmes smoked a pipe.

I do smoke, and have for almost 6 years. I started because i loved the smell and the methodical nature of it. I also very much enjoy the sight of the wisping smoke, the way it seems to dance and slowly drift apart. I spend some of my best time thinking when I have a cig it offers companionship without intruding or the need to talk and at the same time provides an 'in' for the people that I don't know how to talk to. I don't know, I know that smoking is horrible I've seen what it does. I just really love to smoke, sadly.

They actually showed you the person cutting open the lungs and scraping all the tar out, squeezing all the cholesterol out of the arteries, there was one with a brain too but I don't remember what they did with it... Put me off smoking for life, anyway.

Plus, cancer runs in my family.

From 1983 to 1986 I worked in a hospital laboratory and for the last two years I worked as a pathologist's assistant. Usually, this meant I had to clean up the tables after autopsies, but sometimes I was allowed to assist. And, there were quite a few organs sitting around in jars, and books upon books of images for me to see.

Once you've seen enough lungs from dead smokers, it's really, really hard to imagine why anyone would smoke.

It really depends on how you veiw the value of life. I smoke maybe 1 a week (cigarette, not packet.)

You get the nicotine rush still. It's great to relax.


Although if you're counting illegal smoking (not smaking, as I just typed. stay away from heroin!) then, well, less recently, but only because the guy who's always holding got arrested with... wait for it... 100 class A drugs on his person. yep.



I'd never touch that chemical crap though. I don't even drink that much. Green is way more healthy.

I've smoked three in my life, and I have to say I agree with the quote in zxc's post.

No, and I don't ever intend to. I absolutely hate the smell of cigarette smoke, and I don't mean like your average non-smoker. I'm talking - I can't breathe - at all. If I do, I come close to vomitting. I can smell a long way away, and I can instantly tell who smokes, as well as cars and rooms that have been inhabited by smokers.

But still I have always loved the smell...

I don't smoke. I used to work in a casino and it was hard for awhile because being around smoke always gave me headaches. Though sometimes the smell when someone was smoking a pipe was rather pleasant. I've gave thought to smoking. The only appeal for me is relaxation, but there are other methods. In the end, I just can't justify spending the money on something that has no tangible benefits.
