It is not that I am against anyone using a gif of a little green head riding an elephant, but it seems kind of silly and distracting to see all of those images every time I want to write a post. In fact, I bet this is the first time that gif of a little green head riding an elephant has ever been used. Ever. Same with the... stork dance? WTF? I know that there must be an interesting history behind each of these things, but, whatever it may be, I think it is time to move on. Maybe you can just move those things out of the sidebar and into the drop down menu only?

I have a strong suspicion that I will be voted down, but thanks anyway.

You have got to be kidding.
How would we ever post without the storks?!

So, so wrong.

That's quite possibly wrong too.

Wrong again.

The InvisiTreadmill market for apathetic elephants isn't moving anywhere.

Every one of those has been immortalized in INTP forum lore. They are a part of what makes this forum interesting. Plus, the storks are the perfect representation of the INTP mindset. These ones are our primary and most used options. Besides, there is already a pop up menu of further choices.

How dare you!

THIS. IS. INTPFORUM!!
:hoplite_spear_kill:

But if you insist on your foolisshness, you should know that you can go to the user control panel, click on edit options and go down to miscellaneous options and use the basic editor to just get a plain textbox...

On the other hand there are certain smilies which should be there... the default :) smiley should be made into this :dolphin:

I agree, they're not required in the sidebar.

Besides, when did emoticons deviate from representing emotion or being a useful medium for demonstrating a prominent concept or action to merely making little animated beings act out obscure stuff for the sake of it?

How many times can observing a man wearing a crown while sitting on a blue bird possible entertain people..?

Regardless of how useful they are as emoticons, I believe having these over-sized, animated entities in one's peripheral as one attempts to format a reply is distracting and unnecessary. They would still exist in the menu with the other excess emoticons even if they were removed from the sidebar.

The following I find superfluous or simply too extravagant to require within the sidebar:

  • :elephant:
  • :king-twitter:
  • :rip:
  • :storks:
  • :smiley_emoticons_mr

Examples of better choices, if only for the sake of being less intrusive, would be:

  • :^^:
  • :pueh:
  • :dolphin:
  • :balance:
  • :raven04:

Tradition, forum culture, or shortsighted views of them being entertaining appear to be rather poor arguments to me as all hinder progression and efficiency of function.

A most valid point! I mean anyone can see this
smiley_emoticons_twitter.gif
is far more entertaining and yet more subdued. The crown is just too flashy for us.

Animations convey emotions as well. Speaking of which, one could argue that due to the multiple expressions, an animated gif can offer a greater range of emotional expression.

I can only assume the sheer awesomeness of the graveyard guy is making some people so enthralled they stare at him unblinkingly for extended periods of time, as this is not the case for all. :D

Not the animated version?! :twisteddevil:

What efficiency? The efficiency of writing posts? People have ADD, so they must "OOOOOH SHINY!!" *stares at the elephant*

*cough*

Erm, where was I...

Well shit, I just lost my train of thought completely, hmmm, what was that I was saying...it must have been the dolphins.... :o

Ahem. I don't really care. It doesn't matter if they are on the sidebar or not, when they will still be available for use.

Cegorach was just being too serious for his well being.

I am sick of these same smilies. A change of settings would be great. For me, it's not about use, it's about the novelty of the smilies. True, many novices will come and perceive it new...but nevermind.

Down with this blasphemy! I love the storks...

:storks::storks::storks:

And I honestly make random noises as to what the smiley guy in the middle is screaming about.

Wow. I'd be of the opinion on hiding all animated smilies from the 'sidebar', but I've desensitized myself to them for one, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't win that argument.

My dear Fukkie, I was hardly being serious at all, each of my seemingly pensive comments are beautifully crafted commentary on the disparity of human desire and the harsh realities of the outside world. Perfectly humorous irony.

As well, a small giggle escapes my lips every time one breaks another's spirit and allows them to observe their multitude of abhorrent faults.

Actually, I completely agree.
The man riding an elephant expresses the ruination of emoticons like I never could, if I were a more brilliant man I would have replaced my wall of text with just that.

Or perhaps they're more metaphorical and the man with the giant bird between his legs should start going by the name Hugo and starring in hardcore pr0n.

Well seeing as to how I'm the initiator of the birth of that particular emoticon on our forum I must have some masochistic tendencies in me.
Or maybe the perpetual flopping just captivates me. :dolphin:

Yes, try not to get distracted from your porpoise on this forum.

Exactly, as with most it's not a big thing to me, I'm just a little intense when I express my opinion.
Of course, you know that and you're just poking me like I'm an angry bull in true matadorial fashion. ;)

I don't understand what people are complaining about. All of our smilies have a clear and concise purpose, and are completely necessary for the function of this forum.
:dinnerinthesky:

And I watch the bats in that one emoticon when I'm trying to convert my thoughts into words. So, tough.
