I am definitely not much of a talker so I am questioning why I am posting on this forum. Being typed as an INTP and finding there are people out there very similar to me has been quite the experience. It's been a good experience, somewhat therapeutic actually.

Anyways, it's nice to meet my fellow INTP's.

Whew, first post out of the way. Now I can try to be myself.

I think the only reason I posted was to grow as a person. I really need to pull myself together. I am in my late 30's working in a physical dead-end job whose only redeeming feature is that I can work alone and daydream/think all day. I can't do this physical of work for many more years especially working up to 66 hrs/week. All day long at work I think about how to get out of this situation, but when I get home I have no motivation to do anything productive.

I thought I was going to pull myself together 3 years ago when I stopped daydreaming. I was tired of living the life of escapism and fantasy I had been in since I was a child. I was excited about the improvements I could make in my life, my job, and my marriage. I recognized my relationship with my wife was in need of improvement so why not start with that. Cutting off a decades long coping mechanism cold turkey turned out to be a very bad idea. My mind almost literally exploded with OCD about my wife. I couldn't eat or sleep and started making her life miserable with my suspicion and paranoia. We have gotten past that now, but she still refers to the time I went crazy.

If your looking for another job where you can work alone mindlessly and with not much physical labor. Try to find a job as a stormwater inspector. That's what I'm doing currently and I enjoy it. I plan on moving towards a finance career at some point but until then this is perfect.
Welcome friend. We are all escapists in some form or another.

I had a job like that a few years ago. I tried quitting daydreaming too, but I was trapped in a world that I never made. Things are satisfactory now, it's stable and nothing happens. Stormwater inspector! I live in an area that's flooded this spring. Might try that. Anyway, welcome to the boomtown....

There's something very strange about the way you type. Can't quite put my finger on it.

I agree that I communicate strangely, but it is probably just awkwardness. Or perhaps I am just too weird? I guess time will reveal whether or not I fit in here. I'll remain a Redshirt until that is determined. ;)

My daydreaming outlet used to be writing. Then it wasn't for a few years, but I've picked it up again (but it's nowhere near as intense as it used to be - I would write for hours a day, now it's only a few hours a week).

Daydreaming is F-U-N

Wow, I do speak in bullet points. This writing style or lack thereof is not really how I want to communicate. How does one develop flow? I've been trying to journal, but my comfort ranting to myself is not translating to external communication.

Bullet points are better than verbosity.
