I'm not denying it can do good for some but I have gotten more out of 3 days in this forum than I ever did from therapy.

Most of us have seen therapists and a few actually are therapists.

I figured as much. I will have to admit I've only seen 2 and not for very long. I was getting more depressed/more anxiety as I was very much into pot at the time and with the amount of money I spent/borrowed for therapy I could have bought 4x the amount of pot I would normally spend money on or I could have gotten the really good stuff. That's when I figured I could do better finding my own path. Too bad I'm so slow to be able to get myself to do anything.

Quitting helps somewhat but does not help my anxiety. I have an easier time losing emotional control and have a much harder time sleeping. I am a lot more likely to drink which can be okay in small amounts but a tolerance builds up fast and its a lot easier for me to over-do it on alcohol. Not to mention it can be way more expensive to drink as I only drink beer if I'm already completely wasted - I think I'm allergic to it.

I've seen therapists. Through the crosshairs. :phear:

As long as INTPness is a mystery to the majority of the population, therapy is mostly worthless. Besides I believe that one must be capable of getting himself out of the mud singlehandedly.

And now, gratuitous elephant >> :elephant:

Therapists, like members of all professions, have their gradients of usefullness and skill. Being of a personality minority might also contribute to the trouble you've had with therapy; most therapists will probably have been trained to deal with the woes of SJ-type patients. The things that may bother you might seem trivial to them, or even beyond their comprehension, and could prompt them to slap you with a catch all label like 'depressed' or 'socially anxious' or whatnot.

And what's wrong with being depressed? My therapist prescribed me these wonderful happy lollies, seriously, I just can't understand what all the fuss is about.

If you didn't realise I was kidding, DON'T DO DRUGS, you haven't got a brain to lose.

Oh right, nevermind, go nuts.

"Personality minority"... I like that.

I was reading some Jung this morning - it's very clear that his typology was not intended to be the therapy itself, rather, a basis and framework for the therapist to use (as some people have already suggested). If you want to use the knowledge of your INTPness for therapeautical purposes, you should really use it in the context of analytical psychology as a whole. The relief that comes with finding you are not alone in your struggles with the self will be just that, short term relief.

The most I get out of the MB typology (should be called Jung typology, imo) is in guessing what types other people are: co-workers, family, etc. Another puzzle for my INTP to solve: keeps me entertained for hours on end.
