Hey all, I just found my way to this board, and I have known I have been an INTP for some time. Being in high school I tend to be around E- types and F- types a lot... I suspect that being around like minds will be highly therapeutic. (Off the top of my head, two of my 4 close friends are INTP, the other 2 are INTJ...). I tend to like logical things... typical for the type. I also have a penchant for using large words, not to make others feel stupid (which I only do when feeling vindictive), but because I like playing with words. (Word of the day- defenestration: To throw somone out of a window) I tend to be extremely lax about everything, (Gay marriage, for one, makes me rather liberal, but, hey, I have no problem, with repubs...) but my one thing I hate is ... stupidity. And I go to a public high school... -_-'.

I tend to love tinkering with computers, (no coding, though) though I have never been able to take a computer class, due to my equal love of music. I sing and play the cello, though I would like to learn guitar, but procrastination will out. I am [part of the "It's Academic" team, which is basically a team for trivia, so eh. I am a longtime gamer, I specialize in Turn-Based Strategy (No RTS, I can't focus on enough things), and platformers, due to long practice. I also play a mean game of SSBM. Enough about me and about games. As much as I don't like talking to (most) people personally, I enjoy forums and I enjoy learning about people. So. Tell me about yourself (If you don't mind).

Ah, but who are you to welcome me? I should be welcoming you, shouldn't I? *Spends better part of an hour thinking of a logical conclusion*

I have a greater problem with intentional stupidity than that for which the particular stupid person is not culpable. But, I get the point. It has taken me quite some time to get over something similar.

Once upon a time (read: early 1980s) I played cello. I love the sound that the instrument produces.

How about RPGs (both the computer and pen-and-paper types)?

That will take a long time. For now, the following will suffice. I'm a 40-year-old, overweight, "white" guy. I'm married with two kids (and three cats and a dog). I teach philosophy at a big university in the Midwest and I'm also a private tutor (mostly math, but a little of everything). Oh, and I'm a freelance editor in the fantasy gaming field.

casually playing guitar in my mental arena

Wow, it's crazy how much I have in common with INTPs. I am also quite a logical person, love to use big words, though it's simply due to my wide vocabulary, not arrogance. Defenestrate is my favorite word, as a matter of fact. I play guitar and piano and would like to pick up cello and electric bass.

Through my fleeting interests, I have always been an artist. I really like printmaking, abstract painting, manga, charcoal, and pen and ink.

I have also taken interest in sociology and philosophy.

I'm also pulling through in a public high school.

That's rather scary. Tell ya what, I'll teach you to play cello, you teach me to play guitar... j/k. Unfortunately, the art has eluded me, though I have an artistic sister. I don't like philosophy nearly as much as I like psychology... I like examining the thing that produces the philosophy, rather than the philosophy itself.

RPG's are also my life-blood, but my interest has started waning a little. I grew up (Ages 3-5) with FF1 and TLoZ. I have played Pen/Paper RPGs, but I have noone to play with on a regular basis, and my funds are limitedm, so I can't really get the books... And what is it with INTP's and cellos? And editor as in coding, or in actual game script. What games have you worked on?

Sorry for not replying earlier. I noticed you here, and am very grateful that you joined our forum. Yes, it's slow here. There are several reasons for that.

Hi, and post as much as you can! Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. Wisp.

Wizards of the Coast, for the past decade or so, has made its rule set available for free. Some other folks have made excellent compilations of the rules, such as this one.
And editor as in coding, or in actual game script. What games have you worked on?
Neither. Editor as in I was the editor for Wizards of the Coast's Knowledge Arcana magazine (issues 5 through 9), am going to be an editor on an upcoming magazine. I also edit for Rite Publishing, and have done other work for other publishers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidegger#Being.2C_time.2C_and_Dasein

"Heidegger argues that to be able to describe experience properly means finding the being for whom such a description might matter. Heidegger thus conducts his description of experience with reference to “Dasein," the being for whom being is a question."

A philosophical view of the "thing that produces the philosophy!"

I've played Call of Cthulhu, and at some point I'd really like to get into Vampire The Masquerade. I was seriously into first person shooters for about ten years which, not coincidentally, was also how long I took to recover from a viral infection. Many medical professionals would claim that's not possible, but they also tend to be the book-ends and/or door-stops, disrepect completely intended.

The first person games gave me an illusion of physical freedom at a time when I could barely walk up moderate hills. Prior to the infection, I was a fitness fanatic.

I don't have a problem with stupidity as long as it doesn't affect me, and as long as I'm not around to see it happen. When I have to watch, it's kind of painful, and it stresses me out.

And, hi...

V.

Where to begin..

I hate intentional stupidity.. what is that for me.. the blonde (or whatever, the hair color does not matter) that walks into a room carrying something that looks like a hairy rat but is claimed to be a dog and starts looking like a complete moron just to get some attention.. it makes my hair stand out.. seriously.. you're neither cute or attractive, just plain stupid and quite an easy shagg when given an adequate amount of attention.. *sigh*

I hate psy's.. had to confront my share of them, not for mental health reasons, but they are part of the selection procedures in law enforcement.. they want to get into my head and bring the inside out.. they haven't read my MBTI, it says INTP.. I like me to be inside of me.. I'm beginning to sound weird.. or not?

I love RPG's, either tabletop or as a computergame..

I have a college degree in Applied Computer Science.. I scored high on my finals for the course in Logic (go figure :D)..

At work my desk is a lesson in entropy, the more I organize, the more it gets disorganized..

I am 28.9 years old/young, like sports if they present a challenge, live on my own in a big city (where I can easily blend in with the crowd)..

I have some good friends and am currently seeing someone.. someone who's known me for 4 years already.. maybe finally she understands the need for personal space, peace and quiet?

I wonder, would it be possible to get INTPs together in the chat and do Table RPGs over the interweb...?
