Hey, fellow INTPs. I'm facing a typical INTP problem that's stressing me out way too much. Like many before, I can't seem to figure out what I want to do with my future. I'm currently a sophomore in college who's still clueless about his future. Many of you have been where I am so maybe you could bounce some ideas towards me. I'd really appreciate it.

One slight problem, though... Math. From what I've seen it's very un-INTP to suck at math but I've had a long line of crappy math teachers and I've been able BS my way through every math class. Even at uni I've managed to bypass the math requirements (maybe that's a bad thing?). I'm really looking at how my major will relate to my future career. I'd love to be able to study for the sake of expanding myself but school here isn't free (or close to it). Obviously this already pulls a lot of typical options off the table: (Engineering, Computer Programming, Blah blah blah). One more thing! Please don't' say Lawyer.... haha I've heard that one a thousand times.

On the other hand, I'm a bit more balanced in the MBTI spectrum. Feelers and I can get along and I can pretend to be an Extravert without tearing the hair out of my head. I'm still introverted but not too much so. I could possibly manage some of the service careers other INTPs might consider unacceptable. I can also lead when it needs to be done.

Now you know a little about me. Where would you imagine this strange personality could belong? Haha Any thoughts?

Minus law? Maybe something in business, teaching, medicine, or hospitality.

Those are all very "practical" degrees and have big subfields so I think you very well could find something that interests you in one of them.

For instance: in business, I think that most INTPs probably wouldn't like something like management, but would be very good with international business or similar.

But most occupations don't really require a specific degree. What sort of careers would you be interested in?

If BS is your forte go into management, advertising or play the stock market, although you may need a degree in some form of mysticism for that.

I'm more of a word/logic person myself. I ended up going to law school. However, my majors, which were History and English, did not give me practical knowledge I can use in the "real world." I do suggest enjoying college and take as many interesting courses as you can. Seldom will you get the opportunity to listen to so many experts in various fields. Do not restrict yourself. You'll have your whole life to work. What people actually do when they get out of college and what they major in rarely correspond I've noticed. For instance, I worked in Finance right out of college. I did not take one business course. Sorry for the no-advice advice. Now go skip class and drink a beer (just joking)

Psychology! That is always a bad ass subject. Given that you don't get bored very easily.

Which is not usually 'given'. Psychiatry? But Psychology sounds more fun even though it's not going to be the big hits. People love talking and getting drugged. The lottery of medical marijuana keeps them on the edge of their seats.

Go with psychology. That would be the field I would go into if I wasn't as good with math.
The weird thing is, I haven't had any problem with deciding the path I am going to take in life. I decided just about ten years ago, and I have planned every step of the way in order to get to my job objective. I usually am very P, but this seems to be the exception.

Depends on your interests, but maybe English, psychology or philosophy, or some other social science/humanity field? Lacking serious mathematical/hard science interests blows, so you'll have to just struggle to find something suitable. Good luck. (I'm currently struggling with this problem. I keep going from psychology to philosophy, hoping one will lead to a happier ending, but it's just going nowhere.)
