I bet many of you wish you were 14 again, hmm?
But then again, maybe not. To an INTP, the teen years are some of the hardest. Constantly facing the stupidity of your own age group, being viewed as some "smart-ass kid" whenever you open your mouth to make a gentle correction to someone older than you are...it's tough.
I'm in 8th grade. I just had my 14th birthday on the 5th of March. In "real life" my name is Rachel, but I strongly, strongly suggest that you call me Chime or Chimera on this site. I'm uncomfortable with people using my real name online. It feels like they're trying to breach my privacy (which makes no sense if I've already publicly posted my name like I just did, but I digress..)
I found out about being INTP about a year ago, when I first took the mypersonality.com test. I was more defined as an INTP then, but now I'm only about 65% T. I N and P are all above 90%. However, I only started looking into INTP forums and communities yesterday.
Even as an INTP, I still have some quirks.
- I am quite manipulative, though it is not an obvious trait, and it is something I'm working on using less.
- When my affectionate side is triggered, I'm quite naive...but there are only 2 people who can bring out that side of me.

I'm possibly the strangest 14-year-old most people will ever meet.
Hello, everyone.

Hey Chimera =)
I know what you mean about using your real name online. Then again, I now have so many names I forget which one I am! (Farlda, Sky, "S-Bizzle" (SO not my fault), Joel, Katherine (real name), Kuatri and Imp among others)
I also get where you're coming from on the manipulation front. I usually use it as a defence mechanism when people are having fights, arguments etc, often for my own purposes, but occasionally for the 'greater good' of those involved.
I can't even remember being 14, and I'm only 15 myself xD
But for the record, it gets better ;)

S-Bizzle? That sounds like it has an interesting story behind it.
I've lost track of all the names I use online. Sometimes I think it would just be easier to use my real name...then again, maybe not. My real name is boring anyway. :c
Mostly I use manipulation to find out pieces of information about people and such. And when I'm not doing that, I just use it to get whatever else I want at the time. It's amusing...INTPs are supposed to not be in-tune with their own emotions, but it's easy to manipulate people using that person's emotions against them.
I want to be in highschool already...I'm sick of how much supression goes hand-in-hand with middleschool.

Hi Chime.

I wouldn't mind having the single-mindedness that I had at 14 all over again. I really didn't care that my peculiarities made me a social leper - I knew things the sheep didn't.

The stupidity of the world at large doesn't diminish with time. Sadly ones comprehension of that stupidity deepens with age. At the same time reaching compromise with stupidity is required of the fledgling INTP, while attempting to make a safe place from which to contemplate the world.

Appreciate the shelter of the parental home while you have it. There may never be a time when your mind is as free as it is now.

And to leven my morose welcome - is that your cat in the avatar?

It does get frustrating at times, to know and understand things while people around you are still scratching their heads with utter bewilderment plastered all over their faces...and at the same time, I don't want to grow up yet because I'm content to let my parents deal with money and taxes and such.

Safe place = Internet. Always.

And yes, the cat is mine...sort of. It's a picture I drew of her. And she claimed my lap as her personal throne, again.

It's also a good bit of abstract expression of observation in a way which is identifiable to each person in their own way, but still shows some definite meaning or feeling. And I'm just going round in circles, excuse me for that.

So, is that an exact representation? Or is it an adaptation?

Yeah, that is a good picture of a cat. I have a sister who's a good artist... (ISFJ) I don't know about you, but 8th grade was probably one of the best years of my life, then I went to HS, which meant all my friends but my two closest went to other schools... dammit. Also, the integrity of the general population decreased, as, though it is a good school, its in a rather seedy neighborhood, so eh. Not really bad, though. I'm doing the IB program there, well partially, 'cause the workload is frikkin' enormous. I can do the thinking, but by god, all that work. And, the internet is almost always a safe place, but these forums are ALWAYS a safe place. Now that's stated, feel free to give me your full name, address, when you'll be home alone, credit card number, SS number... just kidding.

Oh, and you can be manipulative all you want. Just try not to land people in hot water, or somebody's going to be smart enough to blame you.

I've got this metaphor for the chaos theory that I like to use; society is a body of water, and every action inspires a ripple, which inspires a reaction by bouncing off other ripples, etc. eventually the pool is an almost unreadable sea of ripples which causes events in the social structure. So, if you can read the ripples, and stop yourself from making the wrong ones, then you own society.

But that'll probably never happen, unless you're derren brown.

Cabbo Pearimo's chaos theory of socionics... wow. And I agree with being nonmalevolently manipulative, like Cabbo said.

Don't worry, it gets better. 8th grade was the best and the worst. Great teachers, I was on emotional overdrive, stupid people at school, everything at once with a touch of identity crisis. Now in 11th grade, it's not as bad though I still have to deal with stupid people. I'm just hanging on till college. Now that I've been able to take more and more advanced classes, it's getting better.

Nice to see another INTP artist! I also love to make art due to the abstract thinking, observation, attention to detail, being an architect of ideas, etc. I just hope I can find a way to make money with it...

Welcome!

I've got a friend who's dad and uncle are both pro artists. His uncle's very well known in the whole NI art society. Apparently he sells about 3-5 pieces when he exhibits, and each fetch up to £500, or however many dollars. I was going to say $1000, but the dollar's losing value, isn't it?

Unfortunately, the dollar is going down. That's pretty impressive for your friend's dad and uncle. Could you possibly share a sample of their work here?

Wow, that's a lot of money, but like I'm saying, artists tend to risk a lot more, than say, a bureaucrat.

Risk more?
The only "risk" I can think of is having an unsteady or low income...

Your risk senses are dead on. I think not having money enough to buy food is fairly risky.

Sure, I'm training to be a tattoo artist. Only problem is the guy I was working with left so if I can't get an apprenticeship somewhere else I'm gonna have to follow him to England when I'm 18...

I'm 15 now, by the way...

I wish I had some form of artistic talent. I have a certain amount, which is barely earning me a GCSE (I have serious issues with failure, as I guess a lot of INTPs would). I couldn't envisage making a career of it, though. Far too much financial uncertainty.

Then again, I've no idea what I WILL make a career out of... Really not good if I'm aiming for Oxbridge...

Sorry, but I can't get anything yet. Not until I buy a camera and sneak a picture of his dad's art. The guy's all paranoid about being an artist. And I've never met his uncle.

Free publicity... that's one side of the argument, aye.

I agree with you, but that doesn't hold weight with those paranoid types, I warn thee.

Nope. Like I said, there's no way he'd let me take a picture. He's paranoid about being an artist because his brother went egotistical as hell when he got more well known.

Alie, do you know which direction within the field of civil engineering then? It's a pretty broad subject, after all :p

Out of the list of highschools I read, I liked the name of "Philo" the most. Is it a nice school? As far as high school names go, that's way up there.

Far better than "Tri Valley High", which should also be close to you.

Quality control huh? Por que?

Wow, I'm not only over 20, I'm easily more than double the age of some of you!

And yet, I still don't know what I want to do with my life, lol!

I did get a degree in Computer Science. But after having kids, and now that the kids are in school, I have a second chance of having a career. Just wish I knew what to do.
