^Nice photos.

I was sleeping in a tent in the alps in Switzerland. I noticed there was a storm, and that trees was breaking, but I thought it was further away. Must have happened while I slept. That tree is about 70m from the tent, and it is huge. I was shocked.

One that got created after a party. One I photographed, and one I stole and superimposed on top. I found it to be quite descriptive.

The moon pic is taken with cheap consumer dslr equipment. Several lenses stacked on top of each other. A focal length of 1344mm in 35mm format. The problem is that the ting moves, and we move, so they get blurred easily. A telescope with tracking and camera mount would have been better. I would like to get a good one of Saturn. It's a nice looking spacecraft, but would need to upgrade/improve technique first.

Great photos everyone. I specially liked this one, from Pizzabeak:

Here's my collection (all taken w/ a SX120 IS):

On flickr if you right click the photo 'correctly', you'll see sizes... I just click on medium, then when it takes you to the size you'll be able to right click it and get the link..
I'm sure it's all in the camera :borg:
Ha, well it's some percentage/ratio of camera to individual..

Internship? Assignment? If you don't mind

I did an internship doing concert photography a few years back. Assignments are for my concentration in Photography. Though, I figured I like photography much more as a hobby. Having to live up to one profs expectations kind of puts a damper on me enjoying the craft.

Nice night pics Affinity & Bridge

I was looking at some party pics where the people in the foreground look perfectly still (no blur) and the lights on the background have that long exposure effect. I wonder how they do it. Flash + 1' exposure maybe?

^Thank you :)

I think it may just be range of focus. IE, set the manual focus to the people and the rest will turn out blurry. Like the pic below -- but with people. I didn't use flash, but a f/1.4 lens helps. :D

Ignore my attempt at being cool by adding a quote.

Not related to photography buuut..Does anyone think Affinity & Bridge would be a kinda cool band name?

lol, indeed it would.

About the pic: Not like a bokeh effect, something like this photo from Affinity

4731467351_41e9657bb8_z.jpg

Where the person looks still but there's also a motion blur on the background - on Affinity's pic the blurry lights are on the foreground instead.

Ignore me then. ah. Yeah, you were right with the whole "flash and 1' exposure" technique. Pretty much what will happen is the first shutter + flash will freeze the person in place, then the lights can be kept moving since they are brighter and easier to see by the lens. But play around with it a bit, sometimes you can get some cool things with the person moving as well. And you're probably going to want to use a tripod.

This is achieved with a slower shutter, 1/3 of a sec in this case, plus flash. IIRC the flash was set to Rear Curtain Sync which means that the flash fires towards the end of the exposure as opposed to the beginning. As the ambient lights (his LED gloves, purple light in the background, and various lights going on in the background) are being captured, at the end of the frame, the flash will illuminate the subject at the speed of light, therefore freezing it.

Thank you both for the answers. Unfortunately my camera doesn't have that Rear Curtain feature, so I'll have to do some testing to achieve a similar result :p

Some recent (few hour ago) b&w urban pics. Criticism appreciated.

I guess tilting/shifting would be great in this one, but I own a powershot, so...

The color ones were just put on a CD at some crappy drug store photo developer. The black and white was actually scanned but I can't remember exactly what kind.

Film was just standard drug store Kodak film. Shot it out of my Pentax K1000 that my uncle found in his garage.

And here's a small selection of photos I took a year or two ago 'round the neighborhood with an old Nikon N50 and some B&W film the specifics of which I have long forgotten. I think the green tint really matches the sense of desolation portrayed.

The group is Kill 4 Pride. There were a lot more in that graffiti set, and some I didn't even photograph, but my pictures were corrupted and the wall is filled with too many simple tags now to get more shots.

Hey, cable management is harder than it looks, but yeah that was my first time.

Hmm. Funny I didn't even look to see who posted the shots and it was you. Weird how that works, but not really. We're kinda on the same wavelength sometimes. Can I ask you what part of CA you took that pic?

But about cable management. I just wanted you to see that that was a thing and some people get really into it. Just to give you some awareness about that world. I am by no means an expert at cable management, but I am no slouch when it comes to such things either. It is almost like an art in itself.

It's in South LA, on the path of the Blue Line light rail, I passed the wall all the time on my way to school and one day I just decided to photograph it.
