Oh. Hey. Look. I crossed the 2000 post mark. And I didn't even get a cake, party favors, or a cool colored user title. Yeah. Not much benefit to being in the "in crowd" of long-term posters...

For me it swings the other way. I have this tendency to be extremely critical of posts made by users with > 2,000 post counts. I have no sound reasoning for this bias...except maybe jealousy. :)

Don't let it happen here:

I always find it interesting when people give up on a forum without preceding their submission with effort. There is always the option of starting threads. If you start a few a day and get no response I can understand. If you start a few per month and give up, it's more a result of lack of effort. Also: if threads aren't creative and you don't offer creativity whose fault is it? We are all individually a part of the group. 'You all suck' only carries weight when you, yourself, have not sucked.

Is this implying I am?

Interest sites for me suck.
- I like metal... Metal heads are idiots...
- I like computer games.. 99% of gaming community is massively aggressive and single-minded
- I like anime... anime nerds are socially retarded

Truth.

Although I don't really like anime, anime nerds are definitely social retards. I did collect Warhammer and enjoy the tabletop game though, but that was the main reason I lost interest in Warhammer. A total lack of interesting people. It's like either <25 year olds with no ambition in life, or >25 year olds with no other friends or acquaintances outside of the hobby. Couldn't stand it.

Towards whom? Are they socially retarded when they socialize with each other? What does being socially retarded have to do with good discussions?

The sign cost a fortune. Maybe we shouldn't have used so much glitter.

It's a stereotype, and there are exceptions. It's a fucking well deserved stereotype tho.

Social retardation encompasses aspects of inability to communicate in such a way as to hold attention, but also to their topics of interest and the depth of their perception. A lot of the people I have struck up conversation with that love anime enough to be part of a forum wish to talk about little else, in an uninteresting manner, and are unable to tell you anything you did not already know.

I love anime, and I frequently go and watch anime with friends socially, but the stereotype is justified beyond doubt, and going on an anime forum to achieve social and entertainment/learning needs is ill advised.

Surely you jest... This is the least moderated typology site I'm on. I'm not even sure who all the mods are, and I rarely hear a peep out of them.

I'm not even sure what you mean by this: "No, I'm talking about intergroup lenience and an attitude of exclusivity." I don't even know who would be in the in-group per se. Sites that have in-groups, I typically can list about ten members (or more) of who is "in" and around which conversation revolves.

Oh. Hey. Look. I crossed the 2000 post mark. And I didn't even get a cake, party favors, or a cool colored user title. Yeah. Not much benefit to being in the "in crowd" of long-term posters...
I'm +2000 too and some others, though post count doesn't really seem like an indicator of anything since a lot of people communicate through other means than posting on the forums.

But I haven't pointed any fingers, and I think it's okay to discuss these things before they can become a problem. nip it in the bud

This is pointing fingers ^
Well, I guess I've been on friendly terms with some of the mods, but I'm certain they'd still ban me if I went out of line.

I guess having mods who are mature makes it more likely they will avoid such a dilemma by not befriending crazy bananas.
Doesn't mean they haven't befriended any nuts. Only crazy denies crazy. :p

Not here to play passive aggressive though.

*cough* however on to serious matters. There might be a slight ethical problem with having offshoot forums friends are nice. Probably best just to create a separate IRC chat though to avoid elitism and keep it just as friends.
Maybe but I think Skype is sufficient.

Well. I am a bit crazy. But I'm very good at pretending I'm normal. I wear clothes and stuff. Okay, that's a lie, but I do sometimes do normal stuff. Like watering my plants or watch football.

Comments I guess:

1. To enjoy a forum, messages have to grab you.
2. Some may like to lurk; I like to interact because it brings about change.
3. A high post count may mean you are well known and more likely you post on many threads, but not necessarily. It doesn't have to mean you are liked or disliked.
4. New threads need not be creative, just relevant.
5. It helps to like other posters.
6. It helps to be provoked by other posters, but stimulated is a better.
7. It helps to find posters with common interests. Creating a thread may locate some. If no one responds to your thread, try something else.
8. If you talk about yourself, any response will probably affect you ... hopefully for the better.
