Another one on the same lines to pose to students.

Ingenious: a very clever fellow indeed, how can he think up such an elaborate concoction. I mean he arrived late but what the hell.

Artistic: what an audacious piece of creativity. I wish I could do that. I know he is not committed to the cause, he is his own free spirit.

Dependable: he can be relied upon to do his duty. He is a true brick, solid and a bit boring but he will guard the door against intruders.

Empathic: I just feel better in his company, even if the lazy toad doesn't pay for his round.

Yeah, I would rather be recognized by a very small amount of people who do understand me, rather than a very large group who make assumptions based on a sub-conscious cold-reading of something which I may or may not be, and relates to them. It happens all to often.

It depends. In my relationships with my wife, sons, students, colleagues, etc., it's important to be dependable. It's also often important to be empathetic. I don't really have any need to be seen as ingenious, though sometimes it's nice to be clever and solve some problem in some new way. I like having the occasional moment of artistic insight, but I usually lack it.

That said, I'm an INTP, so I'm probably supposed to want to be seen as ingenious, but I claim the poll to offer a false set of choices. Of course, an INTP would see it that way...

PS; I am on the borderling INFP/INTP, so I think ingeniously (TP) but in metaphors (FP) and confuse the Guardians.

@Cabbo: I've never seen anyone except really religious people not use that method nearly exclusively.I do it too (unwillingly, but many first impressions I made are based on this instinct. I'm working on it).

I like to be on good terms with everybody. Unfortunately, that is not really possible for me. I may be for other types, maybe for the ISTJ if she does what she is told all the time religiously without complaining.

The poll was meant to be a test. I like to be thought of as ingenious (Rational) but I suffer if I cannot be empathic (Idealist), but telepathic is too frightening. Ingenious by a very short head. INTP just ahead of INFP, but I am not even sure about this. Extraverted iNtuition followed by Introverted Sensing is definite and the same for both.

I don't agree with the link between Ingenious and Rational but it's probably just me.
Though it'd be nice to be conceptually superior (ingenious), I'd rather master my craft (artistic).

NTs are metaphorical thinkers.

They are the best at seeing connections between concepts and therefore best able to explain things with apt metaphor. FP are good at nothing specifically really, since F is a judging function their capabilities depend heavily on whether they are S or N.

My best friend is an NFP and he's really good at judging how he will relate in the long term with people, he knows how he's feeling at all times but he has a very hard time expressing himself in ways other people can understand clearly when he uses words (which is why he uses music I guess). I think that you might have a similar problem as he does Perseus, that's why your animal type idea seems so inaccurate and inconsistent to others but perfect to you.

My brother is an SFP and he's very good at knowing how other people are feeling, rooting out the inconsistencies in how someone is acting, and also incredibly good at hearing differences in voices and seeing colours and shapes and crap.


I'm ENTX leaning J so I make long elaborate plans before doing anything, work out all the kinks in an idea and then lose interest...

A reason for my choice: I don't care if people think I'm not ingenious or artistic, since it doesn't make much of a difference. But if I'm thought of as undependable, it can be really annoying. And I'm simply not empathic.

I thought this was going to be an accurate test. Alas, INTPs can deceive themselves by using Extraverted Intuition subjectively instead of objectively. Ingenious is the type answer, but if they have responsibilities that may have Guardian aspects (instead of Rational) in their personality. I think the artistic side is diminished though. I can see how this happens though. Results about as expected, with hindsight.

This seems like the Bullies (ENTJ) see the world. Types are relative to the position of the observer, or to the elders of the tribe.

I was in the peculiar position of having a head injury which changed my personality to INFP (thinking was impaired), and now it is recovering and reverting back to the normal INTP.

I put dependable because when I was a child, I was constantly reviled by my father for my irresponsibility and now I'm seen generally by others as a dependable person, but it's something I still strive towards. I already think I'm ingenious though I guess I probably would like to be recognized for that the most, but nonetheless, I put dependable. I am artistic and I can be quite empathetic with those I care about anyways, so no need to put those, I think.

Definitely ingenious. I am already well known for being artistic and dependable, but people usually don't fully appreciate my intellect and my inner mastermind.

I think they call it being a more rounded personality as you acquire other characteristics as you get older. The a hurricane can blow you house down, lose all your friends and family, and all your self. You are on your own. Then it what you miss most?

I voted artistic for sure simply because I am supposed to be an artist.

I noticed that as of time of posting that Poll 1 had 18 replies but was not rated where Polls 2,3 were both rated 5 stars with only 8 and 3 replies. Interesting.

Artists are Cats (ISFP), artisans, mostly technical ability, low on both Intuition and Thinking, the dabblers are.

#1.Ingenious- i wouldn't really care if anyone called me ingenious but its pretty much the most likely thing i would consider myself.
#2.Empathetic-I am very good at understanding others feelings but still look at them from my perspective and come to a conclusion about their thoughts, while this is a good thing i just plain hate the emotional expression and try to avoid it.
#3.Artistic-I wouldn't consider myself very artistic, i can imagine an amazing concept for a piece of art then never care to put in the work to make it as beautiful as my original idea so i would never have anything for anyone to see and call me artistic to begin with.
#4.Dependable-I just wouldn't consider myself dependable...at all lol. And if anyone else does they are a FOOL (sike it might not be as bad as i think lol)
