Hi. I've been on the hunt for a good place to discuss the oddities of human life. This site seems fairly active, so I may just pitch my proverbial tent here and stay for a while.

So, yeah. Honestly, making social connections... it doesn't come easy. My heart of hearts naively hopes that this my lead to some sort of human connection, even if it is through cold binary lights and fiber-optic cable. Logical me says that this forum is just for shooting the breeze and a little light laughter. And that's fine. Ether way, I'm happy to give this place a chance.

Isn't that what human connection is? Or at the very least isn't that something which fosters human connection? Also where would you draw the line between shooting the breeze and having serious discussion? Because, for me, the two overlap more than one would think.

I was actually thinking about changing it. Not too much. I'd keep the balloon, but maybe put Camus' head on it from that one famous picture of him and maybe a new hat.

Although I do quite like the hat.

Perhaps I won't change it. I mean, I've been using this avatar basically since I joined the forum. It's kind of become my forum identity at this point. At least in my mind.

I agree, it's very much a blurred line. But I've also found the Internet can be more geared toward shooting the breeze than any serious discussion. I suppose that the way the 'net goes about it is more like porn. Shooting the breeze for the sake of shooting the breeze - not necessarily a bad thing, but it lacks a deeper connection.

I guess that's a way of looking at it.

Sometimes I find, though, that the ability to shoot the shit with someone and get along with them in a technically trivial manner like that is, in a way, a more profound connection than what some consider "deep" conversation.

I guess they're different sides of the coin. Or maybe the same side of different coins?
