Hello everybody,

Just a few days ago I was perusing the interwebz, and all of a sudden decided to take the MBTI test. After obsessively searching for further information on my type, which is of course INTP, I had a few major realizations.

Everything. Made. Sense.

And now I feel helpless! :kodama1:

So I'm hoping to make friends on here, and really learn more about ways to overcome my procrastination, general lack of exploring in life, my awesome social anxiety, and how to not be so distant with everyone...

I'm feeling a bit shy about reaching out to people or posting threads just yet, so please, introduce yourself or message me whatever. Thanks!

All the Best,

Misha

Ah, INTPs who still have hope.

Sometimes I get the feeling that this is were hope goes to die... but maybe its just me.

1. Most people here are as or more introverted than you. Honestly doesn't seem to make it much easier as all parties act avoidant instead. Well unless they are on a "INTP energy rush, tm".

2. There are no good/easy solutions, the closest I have gotten to is "do stuff" and try to avoid getting too depressed along the road.

Any attempt to circumvent this with cheap tricks is doomed to failure. You are too observant for such things to work and it just acts like another procrastinating mechanism instead.

3. Same as above.

4. Same as above.

5. Same as above.

yeah...

Strange...This place named 'Glastonbury' has appeared quite a lot in my infosphere while delving into British humans talking...but CT seems to be an American abbreviation named after the old country location or however one phrases that.

Welcome Misha, and thanks for the chewing moose. Surely, surely, such a gormified beast hypnotizes the mind and should be plastered next to roads as some type of scientific experiment.

Typology has seen a marked decline on the forum, but the users are still human, so they may be able to aid you with some of your psychological concerns. Seeing as I am an asocial near-recluse with a penchant for slothfulness, I can not provide you with much practical advice.

So, what music do you generally listen to?
Have you ever killed another mammal or a birdlike creature?
What are your views on dumping human-generated trash in space?
When the felines rise once more to conquer the earth, will you serve them or join the resistance?

Meh, it's not so good.

Haha, nah, it's fine.

Stop procrastinating
Explore life
Go out with people
Don't be so distant

I'm not trying to be funny or anything. I'm an expert in trying to find alternative solutions, but no: solutions take effort. You need to work on your problems, and it's going to be hard. There's no escaping that. Lack of information is most likely not your problem; you are just avoiding facing said problems by thinking about them. Which we all do all the time.

And: relax. That is the single most important advice in the world. Don't take yourself so seriously. :elephant:

Welcome.

We may tell you about the basics of INTP'ness and help you a bit with your problem. I think some of us went your road before or are continually struggling on said road.

In response to your inquiries, dear human:
- Speechwriters, LLC / Streetlight Manifesto / Nahko and Medicine for the People / Matisyahu
- I once killed a bird with a bb gun and felt horrible afterwards. I've killed many mice with a hammer/Ziploc combination, as they are quite treacherous beasts.
- Good idea, I went to space camp. There's a lot more space in outer space than on Earth.
- I am always armed with a water filled spray bottle, and should they rise, I plan to fill it with hydrochloric acid.

Welcome to INTPf.

Hmm, I suppose that's why I'm here - to learn how to be better at taking action. Maybe it's my constant fear of being judged :phear:.

I know I'm not conveying the whole picture when I say this, but I've been put down by numerous educators and it really lead me to screw up my life because I didn't know any better. I'm not blaming them, I just feel like the world has slowed me down so much...

Anywho, I truly appreciate your introduction! Thank you!

why do i get the feeling this one's going to prove itself a keeper...?

i am one of the apparent handful (though a fairly large hand, to be sure) of NFs here, i.e. one of the loonies/lepers...you'll see soon enough what i'm referring to, but i would advise you not to get too close to the colony...

welcome

Welcome, meatbag.

I like to frequent these forums because INTPs are far less up their own arses than my own kind.

This pleases me.

I too was optimistic when I joined this forum, since I thought I was quite intelligent and sane, I expected to find people similar to me here. And indeed I did! But it made me realize that I am actually just stubborn and close-minded like everyone here. So welcome to the club :rip:

i just hope i haven't scared him/her away with the truth, as the truth is wont to do...

i will concede: it was too much, too soon.

you are duly correct, Dr. Hooker

Hi Misha. I'm a recently joined INTP too, and recognize a number of your struggles. Some of my issues are kinda solved by now, some not.

In general, there are two ways to learn new stuff. The first one, which can feel more comfortable for an INTP, is the intellectual way. There is a number of great sites on dealing with your personality or psychosocial stuff in general. Recommended reading in random order:
http://www.davidmarkley.com/personality/conceptualist.htm-Understanding the inner motivations of different personalities
http://www.intpexperience.com/-concrete INTP advice, apparently made by someone here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Win_Friends_and_Influence_People-Basics of getting along with other people, it also gives you some insight in other peoples feelings, so that it could reduce your own anxiety. Free downloads can easily be found online.

http://www.markmanson.net-General blog on how to live life according to this guy, making many good points.

http://www.quora.com/topic/INTP-personality-type Excellent Q&A site on everything (but more evolved than yahoo answers), with also a particular INTP-topic

The second way of learning, which as least as important, is by experience: you do stuff, you make mistakes while doing stuff so the next time you do this stuff you make less mistakes. You should not fear mistakes, they are an opportunity for improvement.

An important thing is also to embrace your nerdidess(for which INTPness is just a more fancy wording). One of the things I learned is that while most people first care about dating, getting their life in order etc., as an INTP I am far more concerned with the big questions of life and the future of mankind. But when you allow your mind to saturate with knowledge on these things and random quircky subjecs that get your interest, you will automatically get more interest in the same practical problems others face, which helps you to understand others.

As a general advice: avoid rusting up as much as possible by doing new stuff at every opportunity. One of this opportunities in my case was for example studying abroad, but there are far smaller opportunities as well: e.g. if you go jogging weekly, change your track from time to time. Where did I get that from? from this song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY

This may all look a bit overwhelming perhaps, but you have plenty of time, so as others have pointed out, relax and have fun!

Happy Solstice btw.

listen... *glances to the left*...Misha,

seriously, if i were you, i would just take the blue pill.

no---i take that back. i don't know you.

but if you think you have the stomach for truth, and i mean truth, the kind that renders you a trembling, nauseous, blank-stare-having, vomity mess and possibly gives you recurring nightmares for months or even years on end...the kind that completely f***s your mind and makes you question and rethink everything you've ever known...the kind that opens your eyes up to the grim world we really live in, behind all the gloss and glitter and happy children's songs...

then, and only then, would i accept the red pill.

i leave it to you~

P.S. happy solstice to you too!

P.P.S. now you know why we're so darn silly ;)

Sure but what you said was kind of hard to understand from an external perspective which is why i asked for a clarification :P
that was straight-unconscious speak, so you just gotta do like you do when reading Jung or Freud or Cakesmeare (my pet name for ol' Willy Shakes) ;)

basically...we have two camps here: the thorough-rationals and the not-so-rationals (at least ostensibly). NTs, IME, have this constant fear that they'll go off the deep end one day ('cause let's face it, all Ns are at least kinda nuts), so they tend to actively stay far, far away from the "loonies" (i guess they think it's contagious lol)

oh dear, i hope i haven't scared Misha away... no more talking to the newcomers for me :[

I know what you mean, I had the same feeling

Welcome to the forum! And don't mind with what they say. I'm up for some friends anytime. Also sometimes is good to search in the forum for questions you might have, i mean, you might find the answer on the post of someone instead of creating a thread.
But call me anyday to talk.

Oh come on. Yourself had the same feeling once, and I know that most at first glence, also feel the same. In a way we all are in the same boat, we just gotta practice be confortable between eachother, and share ?

I think we should try more. If we are introspects, we could make more of this place, since we all together in a way ain't we ?

Sorry, maybe it actually works for some but I lost any hope I had left some time ago. There is only so much disappointment one can take before accepting the futility of it all.

*Shrug* I will probably still end up trying something a few more times probably failing again and the cycle will repeat itself. There really isn't much else to do.

And if you say we are on the same boat I only see it as being on the same sinking ship.

In a way I know what you mean, I might be in another state right now. It may happen that I might go to where you are right now also. All I'm saying we have at some point.

It might just be a sinking ship, let's make a submarine out of it and go explore atlantis.
