archaeology is simply fascinating don't you think?.........this used to be my desired field ....have always had dreams of ancient times..... been drawn to the history and beauty of those once great, mysterious civilizations....how they lived......how they died. egyptian artifacts, the beautiful mosaic floors, all of it intrigues me- i even love the documentaries and would watch all day if i could. many times have i daydreamed of discovering an unknown burial chamber of a royal or pharoah......

I am more fascinated with the future. For whatever reason, I'm only interested in the ideological and political aspects of history.

I too love the mystery of ancient civilizations. Not because of their age - to me they seem timeless. An 'ancient' Egypt could be anywhere - future, past, parallel - and the attraction would remain the same.

The key word for me is 'mystery'.

What about other ancient civiliations? I found the Egyptians interesting especially the mythology,but the Mayans, the Incas and the Aztecs also had an interesting history as well some amazing things for science.

Yep, and so do we.
I mean, look at us. All sensibility has been cast aside for sterilization and work ethics. We have laid our own souls on the sacrificial slab and stabbed the ceremonial dagger of politics through our blackening hearts.

I like the Mongols because they have been there forever kind of lurked around, then the showed up, kicked some butt, and dissapeared again.

I find myself more fascinated by Rome (most of our laws, a good deal of traditions, and language stem from them, and a nice amount of technology too). I'm also drawn to ancient indus valley cultures; to the origins of all civilizations and language. What was Babylon like? Certainly the egyptians and those other cultures mentioned by loveofreason are quite interesting indeed. Although I absolutely despise new-age "magic of the crystals of the pyramids" stuff that always gets tossed around...

I once had a crazy music teacher that every summer solstice travelled to some pyramids in central Mexico, where he and a bunch of old bored housewives would lay down at the top to sunbathe because they were "recharging their spiritual energy" for the coming year.

Going back to egypt, I remember seeing videos on the internet of a man that somehow discovered how to move huge blocks of concrete all by himself with some ingenious woodwork, and with almost no effort. Something about levers and rotation. He claimed that was the way the pyramids were built, and other cyclopean projects of the ancient world... of course there are also theories of ramps, aliens, climbing levers, poured concrete, sonic levitation...

I have a great love of all things ancient. All of it fascinates me so much, I have no idea why. It's been with me for as long as I can remember. Anything very old - the older the better - just enthralls me.
