I just finished watching this film by David Lynch, and I must say I can't seem to get it out of my system. I might have to watch it again while taking notes to try to piece together a fuller picture of it.

I was curious about how others viewed the film and what their interpertation of it was. I am of an opinion that it seemed almost to be a comment on reality itself and what passes for it. That, and how people give symbols to various things as well as how they envision their own hopes, dreams and despairs.

Mulholland Dr. was great. But it was also kinda Lost Highway with lesbians. Act 1 - Crumbling Fantasy World. Act 2 - Trauma that led to escape into fantasy world. Killed wife - jilted by lesbian lover. Both stunning films but Mulholland's a bit of a thematic retread.

Ah, haven't seen Lost Highway yet, so I can't compare them yet. But I have heard that before about the film.

Ah, then you've missed out on Robert Blake as The Creepiest Motherfucker Ever Put On Celluloid.

I have trouble analyzing Lynch's films. He paints in archetypes and urges. Literal interpretations do his stuff little justice. I find his work better experienced than taken apart.

Indeed, I did get the chance to watch Blue Velvet last night, and that was quite an experience as well.

Yes, great movie. How good was the lesbian scene!?! But in all seriousness, great movie, really engaged me, got me thinking, and I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out (I eventually cheated by going on the net, although even when you get the "answer" there's still a lot to be discussed). I've watched Blue Velvet since then because I wanted more Lynch, but didn't like it near as much.

Naomi Watts, I just find to be an incredible actress. Just seems to be in good movies too: 21 Grams and I Heart Huckabees also among my favourites.

I completely agree. Just let it work into your brain and your senses and do its thing. Don't try to explain it.

I haven't seen Mulholland Drive in years and every once in awhile that elderly couple will creep out of a paper cup and laugh as they scamper across my floor. It's always a bit disarming.

I haven't seen Lost Highway. That might have to happen, although I'm not sure whether I want more David Lynch in my thoughts at the moment.
