Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park and State of Fear died yesterday. i don't really know what to say about it. he was probably one of my favorite authors and scientists that i've ever read. his newest book that he was writing is now suspended indefinitely. i think, in MY opinion, the scientific community is at a loss from his death.

Yes, I heard this, too. I have only read Jurassic Park, but I am very sad to hear of a wonderful author dying an early death.

Re: Michael Crichton, Fare Thee Well

It is sad to lose Crichton. I think it was three years ago that I started to binge on reading his work, and I read the majority of his fiction up until 'State of Fear'. I liked his work less as I got into his newer novels, but I don't think I've ever read anything quite as creepy as 'Sphere'.

'Sphere' was great. Along with all of his other work. My dad and I both loved Crichton and he was by far my favorite author. 'Prey' is still my favorite book, but I've read most of his other stuff as well and I am so depressed that he's gone. :(

His actual writting style wasn't fantastic but the ideas were; I wish I knew what he was writting before he died.

Prey was good (About nanobots if I'm thinking about the right book)

Maybe we should devote this thread to discussing his ideas, a cognitive send-off
(like how vikings sent their leaders out on burning ships)

Oh and sphere was one of the few movies that have ever really scared me, very clever

i've read The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Sphere, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Timeline, Prey, State of Fear, and Next, and numerous essays and speeches of his on the web. never read any of his non-science related stuff. i actually liked the way he wrote. it was simple and concise, was easy to understand the science behind it, and the action sequences were fast paced and not bogged down with a lot of adjectives.

Where the nowhere begins. Some like to call it Fin
My favorite characters always die and now my favorite authors too. :(
His books introduced me to the world of scifi. I've read Jurassic Park, The Lost World, half of the Timeline and that airplane book (I don't remember it's name). I liked his writing style too, clear and easy to read.
Great men die always too early.
