In RPG games, do you prefer to play supportive roles, such as healer/supportive jungler/buffer, or do you prefer tank roles, or do you want to carry the game with magic, or with damage? Which roles are you more comfortable in?

I'm a Fe(Ni) and I prefer supportive roles stereotypically, and jungle roles where I can take a supportive/tanky role.

I also like killing dragons and PvE, social roles, I talk much but little rage.

In FPS I play very aggressive and confrontational. Impulsive.

In strategy games, I prefer economical succesion into later agression, I don't rush much and don't like when others do.

Is there a Ti(Ne) gaming preference?

Ironically my preferred mode is solo. I hate being hindered / dependent on groups. My main focus is exploration and customization; i like getting to locations ingame that few others find.

However, when i do group, i like various play styles in order to get variety, since i get bored doing the same old. Dps can be fun; but the multitasking aspects of tank and buff/healbot in extreme grouping appeal to me as well.

In FPSs, I either run-n-gun(aggressively/impulsively also, but not carelessly) or play a more cautious, sometimes team-based, tactical style. I prefer the former since I'm usually solo/duo, and similarly to Jennywocky, groups tend to get in the way.

EDIT: I usually pick up the Engineer/Medic kits, mostly because you get to be more involved in the action, and there are always gadgets you are able to utilize, which makes the game more entertaining.

I don't really play online RPGs so it's hard to say, but I think I'd go for anything that gives me the most tactical flexibility, I dunno whether that's a mage, a rouge or what, I mean first and foremost I want to be able to decide the terms of conflict, for example if a DPS specialist needs to get in close to do damage and I'm faster, more agile, can teleport, or whatever, then obviously I'm either going to win or survive, it's not a loss unless I die.

In FPS I play very aggressive and confrontational. Impulsive.
I'm an utter bastard in FPS, years of playing halo has given me a knack for predicting the path someone's going to take, how fast they're going to take it, what direction they're going to look first when they enter or exit a room and getting behind people in general, which includes rushing up to people and ducking/jumping around (a trick I learnt from "The Book Of Five Rings" incidentally), my FPS style has been likened to Riddick, though in terms of reaction speed I'd rate myself as below average, it's just not how I fight.

In strategy games, I prefer economical succesion into later agression, I don't rush much and don't like when others do.
Ditto, I don't go on the offensive until I've researched some kind of nuke.

I play whatever is fun to me. I have a natural aversion to playing the widely-accepted "best" characters, so I often end up using less popular, more interesting characters. This does mean that I end up playing odd roles quite a bit, which I'm fine with.

With a nod to my avatar, I will say that the TF2 medic is the pinnacle of FPS support. Best class design ever.

ENFP and I prefer solo as well.

That being said, it is very dependant on the skills of the fighter. If there is an interesting combination of spells, I'll usually choose something like a long distance mage. I also enjoy the aggressive self-destrucive fighter styles.

In MMOs with the standard trinity model, I usually play a tank 1st, healer 2nd, and DPS last.
In tabletop RPGs, I play characters that let me creatively utilize the game system as much as possible. I end up with characters like illusionists that dabble in alchemy.
I'm not really sure how to classify my play in FPS games. It seems like "good" players in most FPS games really gravitate toward the same style anyhow, which is basically just "correct."
In chess I prefer closed, complicated positions but tend to be much better at open, tactical positions that I don't enjoy as much. It's strange...

INFJ. Usually prefer mages as their utility and playstyle appeals most to me. In League of Legends (which I haven't played in while) I am best at and enjoy playing heavy casters (mainly mid champs, but I played a lot of Urgot until the nerfbat completely crushed him). I also enjoy jungling or support if I'm with a 5-man.

I've recently started playing a tactics MMO called Wakfu, and the class that appeals most to me is a water Sram - their mobility and utility are excellent, and they make very good PvP and PvE fighters with their ability to position themselves exactly where they're needed most.

My ENTP friend prefers archers for the most part, and my INTP friend seems to universally play rogues, though with different builds depending on the game.

Been playing with ENTP for a while, type wise.

I haven't played rpgs for a few years, but I liked hybrid classes (like the shaman/ paladin on WoW). I just don't like being built for one role, with these classes if I need to specialise I can, but I can always change to something else.
It's also ideal for traveling alone and in pairs (which I tended to much prefer). I found smaller groups more dynamic, and it put the hybrid in their zone being able to adapt to different roles and scenarios.

I like variety and knowing I can respond to most situations, basically.

Beserker/dark knight/ er...glass cannon?

Basically I follow instinct and personal glory with high attack preferences and low defence.

It actually works quite poorly in the vast majority of games, but I have no patience.

Mage/Rogue My playstyle is very much that of an assassin although I can enjoy support. Don't play any Rpgs right now though.

I am heavy into PVP and really enjoy playing a caster. I also almost always play solo unless I absolutely need something that requires a group.

I flutter between classes, often creating a large number of low level profiles before quitting the game upon getting sick of the opening sequence. I don't like doing the same thing all the time, I just want to test my understanding of what the class/character/build does and move on. I am never that competitive, but I generally like to at least try the 'best' characters to understand why they are the best, and if there are any less used builds that counter them.

This is likely years late, but you're right about Medic. Medic and Spy are my two favorites. I main Spy because I enjoy the solo aspect and the immense strategic needs provided. In life I am a mixture of Medic and Spy. Medic is when my INTP takes full control and I become immersed in the intriguing subject I hear. When I'm angry or feeling sneaky or serious, I act like Spy and doubt the competence of my team and choose to work alone.

Anything that gives me a lot of utility for different play styles. It's nice because then I can adapt myself to what's going on. This works well in groups too when other players aren't able to do what's required of them or if they die and such. Otherwise I kind of get bored. In Wow, Warlock was my favorite class up to Burning Crusade; playing through Magister's Terrace was probably the most fun I'd had in that game. They have a boss fight that had more than one boss and it was somewhat random, so each time you played them there was a different combination and it was required to adapt your play style to theirs in order to beat them. Fun.

Mage usually or Support (if I'm a newbie) roles since I like to swap spells and stuff until I get something that just works. Having some sort of Divination school training is a plus too since I want to get as much info to steal or use against my enemies. Rogues/thief comes in a close second since they're also specialized with stealing info/stuff and reconnaissance.

in wow 2007 i was troll totem shaman. i could do everything but poorly. i strolled toward death. never bothered by profit maximization, i was hellbent on squeezing something like an experience out of the game and its mechanics were a distraction from its presentation. i quite enjoyed the green color indicating somewhat uncommon objects in the GUI. the design of wooden bridges and brick roads was also pleasing.

I like playing dps but I often go tank in order to be able to control fights and compensate for incompetent teammates whether in mmo's or single player rpgs.

^^ The opening DPS for feral cat (PvE) is now pretty sick. Haven't done any raiding with it though. (I play a rogue as well, so it's fun to compare.)

I typically don't mind what role I play but I have a soft spot for glass cannons. In WoW I played tank or DPS.

In single player RPG's I usually end up doing what Hado does and making umpteen classes and playing the first 45 minutes over and over before I pick a build, if not get bored altogether before I finish the game. Once I've played about halfway though I tend to stick it out and usually finish the game with 2 or more builds.

In FPS I like to be fluid since I'm an old Quake/CPMA player. In Quake I always tried to abuse my better movement or positioning and it translated to slower FPS games as well. I don't have a preference for aggressive or defensive, as much as I like to just outplay people generally.

I prefer slower paced strategy games and I lean towards defensive strategies.

Whatever is the most OP. I like giant PVP battlegrounds the most.

I remember in WoW circa 2009 or so I played a lot of level 29, 39, and 49 battlegrounds as a enhancement shaman back when whirlwind had a chance on hit to do like 4x damage. Would run around with a giant two-handed axe and one shot just about anyone.

Later I played as a Ret Paladin in level 80 battlegrounds. Would get tons of kills and could use the invincibility bubble to run away and heal :)
