All joking about the attention seeking nature of an intro thread aside, I figured I'd hop on the bandwagon and have a go. I've been lurking on these forums for a while now, and I've now determined that I won't be going away anytime soon. That's unusual for me - I have the tendency to become part of a community, and then disappear out of the blue one day. I suppose that's not unlike how I manage the rest of my activities in life, so it's fitting...

A few little details - I've been studying, enjoying, and otherwise casually making use of MBTI for about half a year now. It completely fascinates me, and I'm just beginning to further my research into the subject, as I purchased Jung's Psychological Types, Keirsey's Please Understand Me II, and Briggs Myers' Gifts Differing: Understanding Personality Type.

I'm 25, and entered the slave life of software cubicle worker about three years ago. Just Imagine Office Space and you'll pretty much understand my work life. I performed exceedingly well with little effort in High School (which was also the first two years of my college), but then became so distracted in college that I barely made it out with my Physics and Mathematics BS degree (heh...) unscathed. Now, the last thing I can imagine doing is making a career of those subjects, though they still greatly interest me.

Current areas of interest: art, music, philosophy, spirituality outside of organized religion, poetry, guitar, chess, and furthering my knowledge and ability to understand and make the best of the world.

I know there's an immediate reaction on these boards by many to try and type new members or determine if they are, in fact, something other than INTP. I've gone through much self-analysis, and while I often times exhibit traits of INFP, I am convinced that INTP is the correct typing. I will certainly entertain arguments for INFP (or possibly even INTJ/INFJ), though, for anyone that would like to make a case.

Well, I look forward to discussing with all of you. (:

I think that's pretty much normal. :p

You seem to be an interesting fellow.

Anyway, welcome. I can relate to the occasional or oftentime display of INFP or INTJ traits. I think I use my Ni and Fi a lot more than the typical INTP though, so that could have something to do with it.

Thanks! I have supposed that I have a high use of both Ni and Fi. I took an online test once that attempted to rack and stack my functions by how much I use them. Ne was highest, followed closely by Ti. Ni and Fi were almost tied for third, though Ni was slightly higher. So, I suppose that could be some indication of ... something . :P

NeTi... could be an indication of ENTP. I don't know much about this stuff. You would probably be much more qualified to say something about it.

I briefly considered ENTP, but I seriously don't see it. I obtain so much energy from having alone time to think and process things. People almost universally just...interrupt my thinking bubble. I also have very little to no desire to demonstrate my "capabilities" to others. The idea of doing so usually just makes me nervous, queasy, or offended (: .

Agreed.

A question that I see related to this, although possibly misconstrued: have you ever been in a deep and truly worrying state of apathy? I am in senior year at high school, and more often than not I shirk my work, even though it could be easily and I could get an a with little effort. *insert sad smiley*

I hope you didn't pay too much for those, but nice! I have PUM I and two Enneagram ebooks if you would like copies. Mind sharing Gifts Differing?

Sounds good

I admit I am guilty of that, I'll try to stop though, too much and it's bad for my ego.

Well, I look forward to discussing with all of you. (:
Great, then welcome to the boards. :)

Oh, absolutely. I think everyone is subject to this form of apathy at some point or another in life. Of course, I think INTPs are much more likely to experience this and much more frequently. I think it's also possible the INTP type to rarely experience this, though.

Myself, personally; I experience this far too often. I have a great deal of difficulty when it comes to motivating myself to work on things and sticking to a thing once I've started it.

Sadly, I have already purchased paper copies. They are on their way! When it comes to research material, I just prefer the paper. I think years of schooling from hard copies has me brainwashed :| .

Not to disrupt the flow, but I agree. The way I see it, INTPs experience a cycle of slight misanthropy, depression, loneliness, apathy, indifference, satisfaction and amusement. This ability to mentally fluctuate emotions keeps one from becoming stuck in a rut, so to speak. Eventually the point of satisfaction and amusement comes back around before it is too late.

I don't think most other types are mentally apt to sink so low and still rise out on top.

I too prefer physical to digital, it's just that the ebooks were easier to get.

Yeah I agree with this not to boost your ego or anything but it's right.

Am I the only person who doesn't think MBTI is not completely accurate? Also welcome, your interests pretty much parallel mine except for the guitar part. I can't plan an instrument for the life of me.
