Sorry LAM, you seem to have missed the not's at the start of each ]sentence. Those things did cross my mind but I'm far from the self hating emo you interpreted from that post though I can see why you'd think I was. That is what I mean by a social retard - even in this forum of like-minded people I am misunderstood. I'm trying to improve, honest!
This guy may have been thrown through a wall (into what appears to be an elite educational institution, which then employed him...) and having got lucky he helped many equally lucky/rich kids at that institution have lots of fun. He also admits to lying for personal gain though, which is hardly commendable but the charity work probably makes up for this if I were to believe in a God keeping score to see if he qualifies for heaven or not.
His legacy appears to be a "fun" way to brainwash children, especially teenage girls, into being computer programmers. He talks of the benefits of learning life skills playing football while encouraging them to sit in front of a computer - is that not sad and hypocritical? Another depressing thing is more obvious, the guy died young of a disease caused by humanity. As happens to many good people...
Maybe I should watch it again in the hope of truly working out what my reaction is.[QUOTE/]
I didn't think you were an emo. I wasn't even addressing this specifically to you, but to people to whom it might apply more. And also to explain in part what some of the things that the video showed.
however, i still think the mental mindset thing applies to you to some extent. I mean, that is quite easily the worst possible examination of the situation you could have while still having logical integrity. Basically it is a really, really pessimistic point of view. It is far from optimistic or neutral, because you basically only noticed the bad.
In my view his legacy is a highly succesful learning tool to teach people in a fun way about programming. (especially teenage girls and other groups of people who are extremely unlikely to takeup programming.) All of his other work as well was to create fun ways for young people to use their creativity. Basically he is helping to teach a generation of right-brain users to programming in very effective and enjoyable ways. it doesn't matter who he helped, at least he changed the world for the better. So what if the lucky or rich kids benefited from his work, at least someone did.
Pointing out that he lied to achieve one of his childhood dreams is picking at minuscule details that basically nobody else cared about. The fact that he advises people to get some "Head fake" learning with extracurricular activities such as sport-although it could be drama and other things as well- has very little to do with him developing fun ways to teach programming to teenagers. You can easily do both and not once did he say to people to sit in their homes all day learning to program. You just assumed the worst and made this into a deeply unrealistic hypocrisy that disparages with probability or reality.
And also, seriously, cancer has been with humanity for the entirety of human existance. It is something that can happen to everyone, because it involves cells which to put it simply "go bad." It does not specifically target good people <_< .
The pitfall of an INTP is getting stuck in a cycle where no information that doesn't agree with the existing beliefs is allowed to come in. The, in my view, serious lack of context, extremely stretched connections and extreme lack of any attempt to see things from his perspective (aka: he helped people,) make me believe you may be stuck in such a cycle. try thinking about things from a new perspective when responding to this post, maybe you will findout something to help you out.
