i cant seem to get back into doing my art due to a lack of direction i cant seem to settle on anything other than the fact that i would like to combine art and computers which i love.

could anyone offer any advice, anything would be usefull right now as im in limbo, i want to draw or try and learn somthing like photoshop but then as soon as i pick up a pencil im bored and my passion goes.

thx

I'm going through the same thing (can't settle on a university choice or find a passion in life). Maybe try talking to some Js? They're good at this stuff!

Do something else for a while. Find a new form of exercise, add some new food(s) to your diet, whatever. Wait for the urge to come back, and in the meantime, do something else.

How about computer animation. That combines both of your joys and it pays a pretty good sum.

Maybe you could be a web designer and design different websites, using computer skills while tastefully decorating and organizing a website.

Web design? Look up information on usability and design, then you might find something interesting and be inspired. Staring at a blank canvas won't get you anywhere. I don't do design but I like examining all pieces of information and figuring out a good way to organize a menu and present it so it is accessible and important stuff is presented forward.

Ah I've been in and out of this phase many a time, motivation and direction lasts for shorter periods than the longer periods of just..limbo (thinking).
You sit down with a clear intention of what to draw/paint....and.... then doodle, start contemplating why it is that you are drawing this, you could be drawing this instead, but maybe you could merge it, would it be better painted.....etc.
I found that it's best to let go of the expectation of being able to represent exactly what is in your mind (if that's what you experience) or whichever goal you have set. Soon as you get into a routine (which I know is tough) things start progressing. Trying not to think (as much) while doing art helps. I still leap into indecision phase, where I want to write, paint, sculpt etc all at once, flicking from idea to idea. Helps to try block this out and 'settle down'.
Photoshop/illustrator is a good merge, just being patient enough to learn a new skill may be the hard part (it would be for me).
I'm in the current process of trying to consistently draw, rather than just give up + imagine things(think "why bother, looks better in my mind anyway").

It's not lack of direction, I'm just going several at the same time
