TYPE.....THIS.....PERSON! :D

Well I've been contemplating it for awhile and I finally think that this female in my philosophy class is an INTP. She's highly artistic though, that's what throws me off.

I/E - Introvert. She's quiet until she's had time to be decisive about what she wants to say. She sits in the corner near me, showing the low-energy gravitational attraction. She has a soft voice, may be a little unsure, I'm not sure.

S/N - She can grasp concepts, but I'm at a lost here. She seems to go for psychological/physical comfort rather than style so I'm guessing Si.

T/F - Thinker. She hangs around males and acts more direct in communication with an absence of irrational behavior. Has a "tough" look, very short hair, wears boots, colors are dark/bland. She grasps concepts that probably go over the heads of most people in the class.

J/P - ?

Ambiguous traits: Inattentive yet alert, restrained yet indulgent(drawing), soft voice, delicate facial features, limited facial expressions

Sounds like some one's got a crush oooooooooooooo.

Sorry for being immature. Just because she's artistic doesn't cancel her out of being a INTP. I say talk to her and find out.

Why does it matter?

Makes me think. Is connection a matter of similarity? Is type an important similarity? But then there are other similarities that are equally important?

But then is connection *really* a matter of similarity?

But then then is connection important?

----

If connection is stimulation and if stimulation is important then connection is important, and if connection is important, type similarity is important.

That is, if similarity is connection.

Isn't it? Isn't the number 1 more connected to the number 1 as oppose to the number 2?

If person A has the number 1, and person B has the number 2 while person C has the number 1, which person(B or C) is more "connected" to person A?

I cannot fail to see your point, however I had to contend this postulate. Consider all the exquisite interrelationships of the awesome machinery of this social game we all play which are constituted despite big differences, non-similarities. Perhaps, the most satisfying relationships are just this. Would you not say that this might be not despite the differences, but rather, because of the differences? However, there must be a lowest common denominator, but if A has the number (1/7) and B has the number (1/191), you will realise that the only union they can form is delightfully perfect...

I'd talk to her, but you know...the whole '100 ways this could go wrong keeping me from being spontaneous' thing. Not a crush, I won't let go of my control so easily.

Why does it matter?
'Why does it matter' can be reconstructed as 'how is it important', importance is subjective therefore it is pointless for me to try to make you see it my way.

1 and 1 have a more obvious connection than 1 and 2, but really it's just a matter of perception, because 1 and 2 are also fundamentally similar, not only are they both numbers, but the next whole number after 1 is 2. In order to get to 1 again you'd need to go through the infinite spectrum of numbers, while 2 is just one unit away.

For whatever it's worth, I've found that ~90% of the time that I'm really attracted to a girl, she ends up being INFJ. I don't know if this is common amongst INTPs or not, but it's consistent enough for me to consider it a behavioral trend at this point.

I also second the opinion that being artistic doesn't rule out INTP. In fact, INTPs have a high capacity for creativity, I think we just have issues being motivated to do anything with it most of the time.

Also, not that you said this or are even thinking it, but being an F doesn't -necessarily- mean someone is going to be a moody SOB that you can't understand. This is especially true for introverted F's, I'd say.

I would tell you to go for it, but I'm pretty disenchanted with the idea of a relationship or hookup right now, so I won't go there. Good luck with whatever you decide to do :P.

Oh...*looks at original point of thread*.

Uh...I'd like to type my father. He confuses me sometimes.

He's very quiet, not very compassionate/affectionate in his relationship with my mom (never has been), reads pretty much 24/7, forms very strong opinions on matters and tends to believe in things that sometimes come off as "conspiracy theories", loves to lecture to others ceaselessly, will go off on speeches and never stop, will respond to any point you make with something completely off base just to make a point about something he's been thinking about lately, but somehow always gives me pearls of wisdom that I realize are completely true like 10 years down the line.

My guess is INTJ, but he's an odd one.

Need more information. Actually the quickest way to find out if she is INTP is to try talking to her directly. If she acts shocked and runs away...probably INTP.

I gave all I could. I almost did start a conversation about her art, but that was at the beginning of the semester..now it wouldn't be so effective, I think, to use that to break the ice.

Does she know you exist? Does she seem to listen intently in class or seem bored? Does she move with a sense of self assuredness/confident? Does she seem aggressive or laid back? Is she more Bruce Wayne or Riddler?

I think asking about her art would still be effective, just give off a relaxed aura. Could also ask her about her opinion about something from class. If you act nervous and she is an INTP she will feel nervous (aka stressed and won't want to be around you).

If you try and talk to her about something that she's interested in, but you perhaps don't know anything about or aren't as interested about, it could be disastrous. The worst situation for an INTP is not knowing what to say next. In my opinion, see if you can gather something that she might be interested in that you are interested in, as well. If you read a lot, try bringing up books, but maybe in a vague enough way that you can direct or participate in the conversation. That way, even if she brings up a particular author you can have input. "Oh, so you like <insert author>? I haven't really read any of his stuff, but I like a lot of existentialist writing, which I think is pretty similar. Do you think that his writing has any underlying philosophy along those lines?"

Of course, if the conversation goes too deep and she's an S/F type, then you might kind of screw yourself over. Basically, all I'm saying is don't try and script the conversation, but pick a topic to try and open with that will leave you plenty of room to sort of go with the flow.

If she's an NT of any type, then there's a good chance you'll see some success, regardless. Don't sweat it (: .

I'm not trying to date her lol. Was just trying to figure out her type. :S But yeah thanks for the advice anyway.

  1. Yes.
  2. I said she's inattentive but alert. She draws while the prof is lecturing but is always ready to answer a question
  3. Yes.
  4. Appearance is aggressive, but she has a calm demeanor.
  5. Batgirl

Oh...I felt like others were offering advice, so I jumped on board. :D

That's why INTPs make bad lemmings, I suppose. Sorry about that :p.

No. Never. He's extremely disorganized. This seems like a P thing, but as several have pointed out already, that's not necessarily the case.
Hmmm... does he expect you to buy into his pet theories or is he content to ramble on?

I cannot see your point but I would like to be able to.

But see here: The strength of connection is dependent on the number of connection.

1. 1 and 2 are both numbers

- 1 and 1 are also both numbers.

2. The next whole number after 1 is 2.

- Here you connect with three ideas(apart from 1 and 2): "next", "whole" and "number". By having to link more, you lessen the connection. The string lengthens and the tips of the string become farther apart. Compare this relationship to "1 is itself".

3. In order to get to 1 again, you'd need to go through the infinite spectrum of numbers, while 2 is just one unite away.

-Here you connect with 3 ideas(apart from "1", "2" and "numbers"): "In order to get to", "infinite spectrum", and "In order to get to 1 again, you'd need to go through the infinite spectrum of numbers". In other words, you connect 1 and 2 by establishing the idea of 'distance' and then establishing the requirements of getting through that distance. Compare this relationship to "1 is itself".

EyeSeeCold, you can't rule out extroverted, I myself am extroverted, but have an appearance of introvertedness at times. You mentioned you aren't seeking to date her, so I deduce you merely wish to seek friendship because of interest. But I doubt she is extroverted from most the details, if extroverted then go for ENTP or ESTP, but I doubt these. Most likely it is an INTJ, INFJ, or INFP. Since you are asking I assume you have ruled out INTP since it seems easier to spot a likeness, I may be wrong though. But my actual opinion, sounds like an INFP, one of my best friends in high school was this, and she could almost fit that desciption.

True, but your essence would still be that of an extrovert. By the way she applies herself, I find that she does not exhibit traits of an extrovert.

I've given up though. I wouldn't be accurate without speaking to her, which I have not yet shown a will to do.

I sometimes have problems realizing that other people actually don't have the same thoughts I have... The sum, or product (if that is what you prefer), of 1/7 and 1/191 expressed as a fraction was what I found more delightful than that of 1/1 and 1/1, the part prior to that was just the regular "diversity is fun" mixed with a Sagan reference... Really though, since no part of the sum, or product (if that is what you prefer), will have neither foresight nor insight into the sum, or product (if that is what you prefer), since they are entirely introspective and will not bother with other parts until it is entirely consumed into the whole, and even then it's still solitary, indifferent to its surroundings, on the other side... But, this doesn't change the fact that the beauty of it all will only be in the perceivers perception, perhaps perky people prefer plausibly prominent prime products picking picky pickles per se. But yes, both sum and difference must be considered.

My husband and his brother are both INTPs and are quite artistic. Did you mean fine arts specifically? In the case of dh and his brother, it's music and creative writing, those they make some of the best cartoons as marginalia.
