Hey all, I'm a 22 year old guy attending UCSB studying philosophy. I do photography, play guitar, write a little, the basics.

uh i think I'm an INTP i might have taken a test at some point but i don't really remember. I read a book about the test and i feel i fit INTP, i definitely got some chills reading some accounts on this site agreeing with what people have said.

though I don't think i know myself enough to really .......wait ok just went and took one at http://www.humanmetrics.com and got INFJ, well i have some reading to do.

can anyone recommend a free one to take?

thanks

mypersonality.info is a good one. I used to type out as an INFJ as well, now I'm basically a realized INxP. Welcome to the forum!

I like to the one on www.mypersonality.info the best. It says to do it without thinking - I disagree entirely. It is much better to think a bit - is this what I would *like* to be like, or is it what I am like. Am I like this because I think I should be - or if I'm honest, is that what I actually do?

Try to be as honest as possible about what your *preference* is - i.e. given the choice or no constraints what would you do? So obviously I would like to think I consider other's feelings when making decisions, but if I look honestly I can see that actually I would rather not have to do that because it would make everything so much easier - one could simply do the logical and best course of action (typical INTP thinking, I would suggest). And actually I have learned that I have to consider other's feelings when making decisions so most of the time I do (but it would be so much easier if I didn't have to because that's my *preference*)

hope that helps

oh - and welcome!!! (and that wasn't even deliberate or ironic!)

so i've taken a couple and come to the conclusion that i don't understand what their asking in some of the questions, I find bit's of myself in most of it and don't feel like I can lean on the dichotomies they present. It seems way to simplified

realist vs idealist ??

schedule vs spontaneous --- well i make a list but don't orgnize it

important for me
conserve vs spend energy --- well i like to save it until i spend it?

my thoughts are on what's now or what's in the future --- well that changes depending on what i'm obsessing over...

With people, I am more often
brief and to the point friendly and warm --- really depends on who it is and how i'm feeling. also how can i judge if i'm friendly and warm?

When dealing with problems I focus on the
issues people --- not sure how to separate these two

I am more concerned with
my own thoughts and feelings the world around me --- also a situational thing

I tend to be more
reasonable personable --- can't these be the same thing? how do they correlate? i don't see how they can be two sides of a spectrum, you can be both right? and neither?

My ways tend to be more
revolutionary conventional --- I'm not sure what conventional is. I use the most efficient ways i can think?

I take more pride in my
goals successes --- isn't having pride in goals important to the success of your goals, and why would you call it success if you aren't proud of the outcome?

[I am more likely to measure things with
approximation total precision] just made me crack up after the way i'm approaching this and this post.

I make decisions based on
logic feelings --- both? different choices require varying amounts of both. the type of choice is also important.

I am more likely to invest in
proven methods promising new ideas --- arn't all proven methods once promising new ideas? what are we trying to accomplish?

I usually
work, then play play, then work --- the two are somehow seperate? hmm after consideration i guess they mean voluntary vs involuntary activity

I am more interested in
current happenings future possibilities --- Both?

When judging others I am
partial impartial ---- when am i judging people? and doesn't the act of judging make you partial?

I process information through
my five senses intuition ---- again, why not both, The things i process with each choice are exclusive to that sensing method.

I prefer to spend time
introspecting interacting with people --- both

I would classify myself as a
social butterfly lone ranger ---- i can't even start with this one. aha got it Lone ranger with a revolving posse.

Others might describe me as more
practical imaginative ---- BOTH

Others might perceive me as
rigid aimless ----- i just don't understand this dichotomy

I am
objective subjective ---- wow, just wow, by existing i'm subjective as is everyone else, no one can be objective. not really

I usually leave for appointments
at the last possible moment with extra time to spare --- isn't this just a basic ideal to strive for? being on time? sometimes it doesn't happen...

When in a one-on-one situation I usually do more
listening talking ---- Balanced? depends on who asked who to hang out, what we're talking about?

I saw someone metioned in another thread that they had dealt with extreme lonliness during childhood, i dealt with similar anguish, and i think i aspired for INTP leaning on T to mitigate the pain. hm...

INXP then

Enviably well balanced.

I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it though - just join in here if you feel comfortable and check out the INFP forum too - any time I wonder if I might really be INFP I go over there for a bit and run back totally bemused that I would ever have imagined I was INFP!!

Ya lot's of essays, i find them a lot easier than research papers, I'm not good at the whole buckle down thing and just grind it out. Phil papers at ucsb are mostly just analysis and being long winded enough to get 4-5 pages. oh ya that's also why i like phil, going into my last year and haven't written anything over 7! my favorite professor doesn't give essays or tests, he has weekly reading and then the last class is a two page analysis of w/e the reading was, usually it's just one day a week 2 hour discuss and then 20 or 30 minutes to write, so chill!

are you thinking of going into philosophy?
