Actually I was talking about the 'reasons' for the war.

When a new member comes they don't necessarily know the official rules though those tend to be the same from forum to forum. They are given time to learn the feel of the forum and (if they care to) read the thread about forum rules. If they continuously infringe on the rules a member points it out to them. Often an admin doesn't even have to step in. In a lot of ways this ensures that the forum adheres to what the forum members what it to be. If the new member continues to infringe and cause forum upheaval gradually more and more members will start making complaints. If you follow Deagle's actions over the last few months you'll notice various members pointing out his lack of couth and respect. I was not the first to point out his spamming youtube videos after all. Eventually the admins take note of the changing tide of the general forum populace's opinion toward this member and he/she will get banned if they don't straighten up.
At least this is how I've seen these things turn out over the year that I've been here. If the forum populace starts sharpening their pitch forks and collecting torches the Admins kick out the irritant before the lynch mob gets organized.
Not bad; although, being INTP-orientated, it's slightly less organized than that.
It gets rather like the Blackadder version of the Great War sometimes...
Oh, we don't want to lose you but we think you ought to go.
For your King and your country both need you so.
We shall want you and miss you
But with all our might and main
We shall cheer you, thank you, bless you
When you come home again.
Minus the last sentiment.
Anyway, Desert Smeagle is sorry as evidenced here, and I am sorry --- in a general, non-specific, detached fashion. We are all sorry. In deference to Smeagle's fondness for Youtube...

[ You may notice this is the slower alternate version, New Orleans style: I think I prefer the brisker mode, but this is interesting. ]

Nah-Poo, Toodle-oo, Goodbye-ee
How can people drift off topic so much? Cant they just start a new thread(I know its impractical but still)
Ever since my post people just forgot about smeagle? How does it work?
Last night I had some really weird dreams - one of them involved Claverhouse being super evil. Really and truly evil, and wicked, and murderous, and out to get us all. It was strange; I don't really remember much beyond that, but I do remember thinking how he'd always seemed a little dangerous on the forums, but never had I dreamed (ha) that he would turn out to be so hugely cruel. We were all running in fear from him, and trying to avoid his fiery gaze of death.
Just thought I'd warn you all.
(Actually, this was relevant on another thread but I can't remember which so I just stuck it in here.)
A solid effort. By sheer humor, at least.
ban no one except for intentional trolling and spamming? I think you would make an excellent mod.Man, that was by far the best one of his YouTube videos (I didn't watch many of them though). I LOL'd more than once. Kinda feel bad for defending his ban now.
+1 vote for letting Smeagle back. (I'd make a terrible mod)
Agreed.A solid effort. By sheer humor, at least.
I have never really seen a time when it was.Agreed.
This place has really gotten less audacious.
+1 vote for letting Smeagle back.
I realize you said you were sorry quite a few times, but did you ever ever say you were VERY sorry? Listen, if you were truely sorry you would apologize like any adult would. Speaking of adults you claimed, "We are all adults here." Not true. I know quite a few children who are not adults. How do you know some of them aren't here? I'd like to hear your definition here of here here as your definition may not be the same here as what we think here is here.
Duuuuude. Are you a master wizard? My beard is white but I earned it.
I wasn't calling you a dude. I use 'dude' as a general term oftentimes, as when one says "Yo" or "Hey."xxXxx. No I'm not. My beard is way too short for that. I didn't know I waz a dude though. As one dude to another, howdy doody X.
Smeagle or Dessert Seegull I want to apologize for this post. It's a sorry post and I'm sorry I made it. I don't know if you're sorry you read it, but if you're not you should be. So apologize. I did. Setting the example here. I'm sorry.
The G. You don't know how much I appreciate your sorrow. I hope you don't wallow in it. Wallowing is one thing but shame is another. Do you feel ashamed? If you don't maybe you should be. I feel ashamed. So ashamed and I want to share it.I am sorry you posted it too. Very sorry.
Sincerity is a virtue so I'm so sorry he wasn't given two days.Yeah he is sincere but people don't change in a day and yeah we have free will but not the right to use it.
I'm sorry it was too late for me to undo reading it and I'm sorry you haven't found a way to reword it.ps I think my last post was worded wrong so feel free to ignore it.

The Goe4. I'm sorry you thought it was #1, #2, #4, #6, or #7. I'm sorry to say it was #5 but I forget as they gave me amnesia for security reasons. I say this in all sincerity as I am about as sincere as I'm sorry.Oh this is going to be fun.
Now I am not quite sure if you are continuing in jest or have misunderstood one of my posts so just to clarify.
- have you misunderstood my post and thought I was insulting you
- have you continued with sarcasm
- are you sorry that I haven’t found a way to reword it yet
- are you thinking I insulted you and are trying to back out
- have you been captured by aliens
- other
- all
The Goe4. Don't know if you agree with me but I think this one sorry thread and I'm sorry for that even though since responsibility is shared here I'm certain I shouldn't have to be the 1st to apologize though it could happen that way. It’s just the way I thought my post could be incorrectly understood. However if you speak in all sincerity then you must not be sorry for if you were captured by aliens and they gave you amnesia you would not be sincere then as you wouldn’t know. So I am sorry that you are saying you are sincere being insincere (although it may be true you wouldn’t know [making you insincere{although possibly correct}]) thus making your self not sorry.
I am so sorry.
I think it would be interesting too, just to say exactly how much he annoyed others. I never saw many of his more annoying posts, so I might be biased. He reminded me somewhat of myself, actually. But I suppose that, in hindsight, he is not very much like me...well seems that way I still would like to see the results of a vote (not to change things unless the mods want) but just to see what people think.
Oh shut up
sorry
Now I don't know what you mean I was just being picky about the impossibility of you being sincere if that wasn’t the case (and I was assuming it wasn’t) but I am sure it doesn’t take away the real sorriness only the fictional sorriness that wasn’t there.
But to sum it up neither of us have a clue what the other is talking about and should probably stop.
leaving me sorry that your sorry about the whole sorry situation and I am sorry that it happened.
I've never really talked about how he sees INTPf so he might have another opinion about this, but I always envisioned this forum as a meeting place for and about INTPs. I always thought about it like a club.
Just like the hosting company, that provides the infrastructure for this forum, must obey the laws of the country it resides in, Ragnar has to obey whatever regulations they in turn impose upon him and again, regular users have to obey his - the forum's - rules. INTPf is neither independent nor impartial. It is no governmental organization that tries to achieve maximal neutrality. Do not misunderstand this, it does not mean that we are arbitrary or follow any ideology; it simply means that we see it as our task to provide the greatest possible functionality for INTPf.
As with any other kind of society, there are written laws and unwritten laws.
The unwritten laws basically come down to don't be a dick. While in real life no court would punish you for making fun of someone's miscarriage, here we can - and we do, if it becomes rampant. Usually we try to interfere as little as possible.
I can only say what I said in some similar threads: being here is a privilege, not a right. All of this here costs real money. If you don't like it, you're free to open your own forum that follows your own rules and install whatever -cracy you like.
It seems to me this particular banning has set a precedence that it's okay, or even somewhat necessary, to ban someone simply for being universally (or at least mostly) disliked.
Claverhouse I think you are making a point here. Some of us are currently exploring democracy with Agent_Intellect and others and there are more factors. Moderators are caretakers of this forum. For the well-being of any forum they have more power. So pure democratic vote (I like someone; I don't like someone) is not enough. Moderators would use their judgment to ban or not. That doesn't mean that such action wouldn't be subject to discussion as in any democracy, but moderators would have the final decision.Nope: feelings en masse are not stable enough to affect public policy --- and insofar as I was aware I didn't dislike him [ which doesn't mean I thought him suited here ] --- any more than one can base economic policy on whatever most people think ( by internet standards: 1/3 would abolish all pensions & welfare; 1/3 would take state control over private industry; 1/3 would increase credit and borrow from their unborn grandchildren ).
It's enough to be unliked by a moderator sufficiently that they think the place would be improved without one.
Back when they had village local policemen, one such would protect you ftom the mob of dissatisfied neighbours. On the other hand, you would be ill-advised to purposefully or unpurposefully annoy him or browbeat him with your authoritah even if you were the richest man in the county.
