While it's a good idea to look at the whole bible instead of just the "good parts", you have to realize this does not embody Christianity. A good portion of the bible is history, and criminal history hasn't changed much in that regard. Also, since the Bible has been translated and copied by hand for centuries, you can't expect the wording to be totally accurate. The illustration of God afficting David's illegitimate baby is quite inaccurate too. We don't know exactly what happened, and the condition of the child's illness could change the context significantly.

The whole thing is surreal! I think it is meant to be a satire, but on the face of it, it's kind of disturbing. My kids actually have some of the illustrated bible type books it's making fun of. I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in about it. I don't think many people pay attention to the arts section in this forum.

I think this is both healthy and productive. It's what it says, right?

Anyway, I don't think children should be thought religion, until they are capable of really understanding it, which means until 18 or so.

In that spirit, I find "Bible for children" books most disturbing in their blatant selectivity and brainwashing.

BTW, there is an animation about this, somewhere...

For most of the kids it`s easier to perceive things, if they`re drawn, not written - how much children can understand, what Bible is about and all the cruelty, that is shown in it? If you just read it, they think, that heart is something like handbag, which can be taken away and doesn`t have any particular meaning - "Somebody ripped his heart out? Oh well, he can get new one!" But if kids are able to see it by their own eyes, they really can understand, what has happened.

Religion must be a thing, that you can choose by yourself, not the thing, that`s pressed on you.

couldn't agree more. the number of kids in biology class that refuse to learn about evolution is apalling.

*Shudder* Religion is really dead this side of the Atlantic, if my year at school is anything to go by. Thankfully.

i don't know if i want to squash religion so much as give people all the facts and allowing them to choose what they think as oppose to pushing either side onto them. in my opinion, though, a substantial majority of people would choose to believe the facts that have evidence backing them up then religious dogma.

It's dying all on its own because people have the facts and none of the indoctrination.

Not on this side of the pond! Atheists are considered freaks here ( I have a real fear of admitting it to too many people). Religion of one kind or another (predominately christianity) permeates our society. Here in Houston, There have got to be hundreds of churches (all denominations, catholic and protestant), temples (buddhist, taoist, etc), mosques, and synagogues all within a 10 mile radius of my home. It's easy to feel very lonely and alienated, especially since most of my friends and family are devout christians.

Maybe I should sneak into some of them and leave copies of this book just for giggles.

This is funny because it's true. Houston is littered with all types of religion.

I just noticed you're in Katy! You know exactly what it's like here! Every other person goes to either Lakewood, 1st baptist, or 2nd baptist. I often wonder what it would take to get that smile off of Joel Osteen's face!

If you could find a way to do that so that they wouldn't guess it was you, that might be fun.

No not really. When I lived Houston, I didn't go out much. My mom didn't think I was mature enough to go out by myself. I lived a pretty sheltered life.

Even though Katy doesn't have as many churches, the kids here are a lot stronger religiously. In Houston, my classmates would say that they are christian, but that is only a front they put up. They don't understand what a christian is and its beliefs.
