Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum and looking forward to talking to my brother and sister INTP's.
I'm 22 and live in Adelaide Australia. I currently study psychology.
I am into conspiracy theories and anything tripped out. I think unicorns are kick ass

I knew the LL theory was disproven...

Aren't the illuminati fictional, an invention of Dan Brown's in Angels and Demons?

No there not fictional, you should look into it, While your there look into the world banks and how they work.
Thats a great book and Dan brown references some very interesting facts about the Illuminati in that book. Did you know that you can go to actually go and see all the statues and follow the path of illumination in real life

That would be cool. I'll probably do that if I ever go to the vatican.

Yes, but remember that dan brown made these statue trails up! He went to the vatican, looked at some statues, created a meaning for them and made the whole thing up! Dan Brown is a tool, and that's that. His books are terrible too.

I dunno, I found that his books were pretty fun to read. What makes them so terrible?

I don't really like conspiracy theories. Or maybe it's the conspiracy theorists I don't like. This probably stems from my childhood, as my father had a tendency to fool me and he rather seemed to enjoy it, and I really found it hurtful.

In general, this is how I see conspiracy theories. There is this assertion that the public is unaware of some obscured truth and that therefore they're being fooled. The theory purports to demonstrate what that obfuscation is, and has a replacement explanation that is supposed to be believed instead.

But, what I find is that more often than not (okay, virtually always), the conspiracy theory is itself wrong, and that those who believed in it were the ones fooled. So, this is particularly distasteful. It's one thing to find out you've been fooled, and then correct it. It's another entirely to believe you've been fooled, fall for an alternative, and then find out that you're now the bigger fool.

So, since I admit my own distaste is probably personal and shouldn't be projected onto others, I'll simply ask of the rest of you who do like conspiracy theories "What is it about them that you like?"

To wisp:
He makes people think that the stories are real by using pseudo-religious events and real-life artifacts. Aside from that, the dialogue is meaningless, the plot is overly dramatic and the characters' relationships are grown in the easiest way possible; "you saved my life, let's have sex".
But then again, that's just my opinion.

To Dave.
Good name.
And, the thing about conspiracy theories, for me, is that it keeps us thinking about the truth of things. We're lied to constantly; the media, friends, families, enemies, they all lie. So do we. Maybe, then, some of the fundamental stories we are told that shape today's society are lies. It's interesting.

Ahhh, but I like distinguishing between his use of truth and fiction, though I agree with the "You saved my life so let's copulate." point.

It's not that hard to do. If it isn't a physical object, it isn't real.

Yeah, but I still find the way that he actually DOES it interesting, and the fictional history he schemes up is interesting...

Sorry i was away for awhile.
Ok so, I think conspiracie theory's are good because they make you question things rather than just accept them. After you really question things trying to disprove them you get a really good understanding of what ever you have questioned.

"In general, this is how I see conspiracy theories. There is this assertion that the public is unaware of some obscured truth and that therefore they're being fooled. The theory purports to demonstrate what that obfuscation is, and has a replacement explanation that is supposed to be believed instead."

Alright there are 2 types of conspiracy theory's. Crazy conspiracy theory's created by crazy people by which you summed up pretty well, And conspiracy theory's that actually make complete sense, which are discussed by people like me, and if you scientifically disprove them we will happily abandon them in a blink of an eye.

You need to understand that there are many things in history that have been documented incorrectly and people are led to believe lies for whatever reason, and there are many things happening right now that you would just wright off as a conspiracy theory, eg think about George bush.

Next dan browns book needs to be looked into and not just written off as crap.
Which parts dont you believe?

I've read them all. I've already explained why I don't like them. Apart from angels and demons, but that had some pretty terrible bits too.
