Last night I got bored and decided to take an online personality test. Now, normally I don't give these things much credit; the results always either don't fit me at all, or they're so vague they could apply to almost anyone. But this time, the results were shockingly accurate.

I often feel detached from the world, as if I'm more of an observant than an actual participate. I had always thought that I was the only person that felt like this, but the description of an INTP I read actually had this as a common trait; they even used the same words I used to describe it! I had no idea that anybody else was like this!
Throughout the whole thing, I kept thinking "wow, that's me," but that above was what stood out to me the most.

So, uh... some info about me! Well, I'm 16 years old and female. I like learning new things, which is sadly not something that is normal among my peers. I love the internet, for it is such a great source of interesting information.
I'm not very good with social interaction and rarely post on forums; I usually prefer to lurk.
I enjoy drawing, reading, watching anime, and playing video games(mostly Pokemon) in my spare time.

So hello, forum! You guys won't throw flaming chickens at me or anything, will you? I'm kind of scared to post, honestly. Why must I be shy even on the internet?

P.S. Semicolons are awesome; more people should use them.

Words: Hiya! I've mainly been playing Pokemon Heartgold lately. I beat the game once, but I got bored and decided to start over, so now I just have 6 badges. Do you play any?

EDIT: No thanks.

I have played from RubySaphire to Platinum. I have not played HeartGold. Do you play on Wi-Fi?

I cannot. :D

Do you hold any mystical thoughts? A new neighbor in your cerebral neighborhood? A new classmate named "idea"? A troubling issue? Anything that can defeat average events? Might be an item for discussion.

Out of all the possibilities, why a test? Whim and accessibility?

Now, normally I don't give these things much credit; the results always either don't fit me at all, or they're so vague they could apply to almost anyone. But this time, the results were shockingly accurate.

I do not understand. Could you explain this "detachment"?

No, I cannot think of anything worth discussing. Nice way of saying things, though. I especially like "A new neighbor in your cerebral neighborhood."

I was thinking about introversion and extroversion(I can't remember why), and decided to look that up. This led to reading about the Myer Briggs personality test, and I just decided to take it.

I do not understand. Could you explain this "detachment"?

I often feel detached from what is going on around me, as if I'm not actually there, just watching things happen. Does that make sense? I'm sorry I'm not good at explaining things. The description I read it from is here, by the way.

Welcome. If I remember correclty the Pokemon video games were righteous. The TV show....not so much. There seems to be a correlating interest between INTPs and anime; I don't see what's so appealing about it. Maybe I could use some convincing? What's so damn cool about anime?

ps - Note my semicolon. Did I use it right? I could never figure the damn things out. Also, should 'damn' be 'damned' in the above context?

You like it? I am free to express these happy whistles.

You've opened a good book. It worries me that discoveries such as these are often out of coincidences and rarely an institutional societal priority. Take happiness, for example, Is it taught in school? Self-development and common reoccurring worries such as feelings, logic, and wisdom. Though, I am probably missing an important point...

I believe it is more of a children's hobby. Can "child" be defined as a personality?

I think so. I think the only requirement is that the latter sentence must relate to the former.

But how important is "proper" grammar? Was the value placed preliminary on efficiency of communication?

Also, should 'damn' be 'damned' in the above context?

I don't know.

Yes, the games are awesome, but the show is just terrible. I used to love it when I was 5, though.

Well, one thing I really like about anime is how odd it can be. Anime can be just plain strange in general, and I love that about it.

PS: Yes! That is proper use of the magnificent semicolon! You use it when you want to separate two sentences without a period or conjunction. As for the Damn Vs. Damned thing, while it's more proper to use "damned," a lot of people use "damn" anyway, and it is acceptable in informal writing. At least, that's what a quick Google search tells me.

NO! Not flaming chickens and bunnies! D: WHY, OH GOD WHY?!

I love Pokemon. My favorite is bulbasaur. I've been playing the pearl version. My brother gave it to me when he got the soul silver game. Haha. The only one I still own is fire red.

I sometimes play Pokemon for the Nostalgia, I've been playing since Pokemon blue.

I would suggest this as an avatar, it's a bit subtle.

Can such things be taught? Is there a universal guide to obtaining happiness? While people should definitely be encouraged to find these things, would you really be able to teach them?

I also have a television.
Ha.

I believe it is more of a children's hobby.
Why? While Pokemon is certainly kid-friendly, that does does not mean that people of all ages cannot enjoy it. Why are video games so often perceived as things only kids should like, while other hobbies, such as sports or knitting, are perfectly acceptable?
As for Anime, it depends on the series. There are definitely animes that would NOT be appropriate for children.
Or did I misinterpret your statement?

Can "child" be defined as a personality?
I guess "Childish" is a personality trait.

EDIT:Oh, hello people!

Yeah, that's how we they suck you in, the tricky bastards. I personally don't trust that feeling, but dammit it's powerful.
It sure is. They've got now, don't they?

I'd like to believe that happiness is, to some extent, universal. Neurologically, It is possible although I am not sure. I believe value is the origin of happiness. And value comes from sensational inputs or emotions(pride or ambitions). Emotions can be controlled to a degree but psychological, I think humans need social interaction and other common patterns.

Do you feel as detached as observing events through a screen?

No, but I guess I was speaking generally. Yet again, I think you are right, these are not exclusively "childish"

What specific trait of the Pokemon games do you find attractive?

Myself, I enjoyed the curiosity and novelty of the travel.(it got old.) I enjoyed the idea of customizing my own team. I also liked the idea of progression(evolution, badges, pokemons, skills etc.). There was not many strategic opportunities (though, Wifi battles seems to stress this.).

Do you like math?

I suppose you're right.

Not quite the same as watching TV, but it's similar. It's different when I actually speak to someone, though.

I like the variety of Pokemon, customizing my team, exploring, and the sense of accomplishment I get when I finally beat the Elite Four. As for strategy, there's plenty of that, especially when playing with other people. I think this is something that's increased over the years, as they've been adding new Pokemon, attacks, abilities, and natures(which affect the stats of the Pokemon). If you want to build the best team, you have to take these things into consideration, and you have to know how to use them in order to win.

Do you like math?
Not particularly. I never liked math class, but at least it's challenging.

But isn't that just grinding + paper/scissors/rock strategy?

Maybe I’m just missing the point, for example many hardcore RPG players loathe the Fable series, labelling it as childish & shallow, but the game isn’t about developing an ever increasingly powerful character while delving deeper and deeper into the game’s lore; it’s about the timeless charm of fairytales, specifically the nostalgic experience of pretending to be the protagonist of such a tale, in this way the game can’t be judged by the typical standards of fantasy games, because it isn’t about escapism, it’s about regression, about rediscovering a childish delight in simple things, like kicking chickens.

I can only assume there’s a particular charm to the Pokemon series that eludes me, because if its success is based solely upon being a glorified slots machine, I’ll lose what little respect I have for this species.

I love the different pokemon(and made-up creatures in general), but I can't explain why.

I've always liked animals. Fantasy animals --> win
It's like normal humans with awesome ninja skills --> win

Yeah, I have a crush on Kakashi :phear:

Pokemons and so, they are ideas that we like. Like cyborg, zombies or robot unicorns. That's some of the attraction, I suppose. And believe me, it would have been much simpler to force my neighbors to submission if my dog could ice their asses.

Anyways. I played pokemon a lot when I was younger. I would have enjoyed it even more if it had targeted people a bit older. They look a bit too innocent (the pokemons).

Arcanine is my favorite.

I like semicolons as well.

Random quota filled.

Welcome.

It lies! My friends in High School play Pokemon! We even bring our Pokewalkers!
Then again, we are the weird ones.

I'm fine with the innocence. I've been playing since kindergarten, and it'd feel wrong somehow if they lost that.

Gengar! :D ...No wait, Pikachu! Wait, no...Totodile, er Quagsire! No... Okay, I don't have a favorite. There's so many to choose from.

I like semicolons as well.
Yay! Another supporter of the great semicolon arrives!
I love it. Do you frequent My Food Looks Funny?

That last sentence could use a semicolon.

I use colons and semicolons liberally; the last English professor I had told the class not to use semicolons: I misused and abused them in my paper.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly scarred by my bereavement; I have not taken an English class since.

Semicolons are a strange beast, you can easily misuse them and will not be called out for it.

My sister and I had a conversation on them awhile back;,. she showed me this:

Im glad you found out that there are lots of people just like you.
It was a total shock when i read my results and found out that im not some weird person alone in this universe.

pokemon red was my first rpg - i got it for christmas of my 2nd grade year :)
i played it so much that my parents limited my gameboy time to 30 minutes a day (HOW EVIL!) i also got gold version the year it came out.
i used to love these so much, but now i can only really enjoy them out of nostalgia. Idk, if i play pokemon too much anymore it gives me a headache (ive only played red blue yellow gold and silver, though)

charmander and farfetched were my favorite pokemon (i also was a big fan of hitmonchan and haunter)

my english teachers know me as "the kid who uses semicolons" but for some reason i only use them in papers for school (my non formal grammar is really haphazard, which is supposedly not very intp of me)

i would come meet you in real life but it would probably seem really creepy for a 20 year old guy hanging out with a 16 year old girl that he doesnt know.

but we can be forum friends.
