BACKSTREET BOYS!!! You know how when you were in high school you would always make fun of them with your friends but secretly you know all their names and the lyrics to all of their songs by heart? haha

Hide and Seek by Namie Amuro, Center of the Universe by Kamelot, While You're Waiting by Alkaline Trio. Music I should really not like, but dammit, I do!

Pleasure doesn't make me guilty. :)

However, I am guilty of sometimes listening to music I don't even like (or like anymore). Apparently iTunes cannot read minds. For example, there's no logical reason why I should be listening to Korn or Linkin Park anymore.

Eh, I still think some of their older stuff is okay, although that's probably due to nostalgia. They have become very boring to me though. I got bored with LP too, although I guess they're still better than alot of crap that's popular.

Hahahahahahahaha, awesome. It should come as no surprise that this INFP was a huge Backstreet Boys fan as a teenager. I didn't hide it though. I was proud. LOL!

How clever. lmao!

I like Paramore!

I don't have guilty pleasures. I like what I like, and if someone doesn't like it, oh well. I listen to country music primarily, but also some top 40. I can also listen to jazz, oldies, folksy-bluesy stuff. I've opened myself to some of my husband's favorites, like Queens of the Stone Age and Placebo. But he also listens to some heavier metal that I can barely tolerate...lol.

I once had a spice girls cd...

Don't look at me like that, it was free when I joined up with this music postal delivery company called Britannica. They also gave me a free glass.

I am so happy there are no closet Barry Manilow fans here. That would really test my tolerance level.

This may be a lost reference to a great many of you due to its venerable age, but I always kinda sort enjoyed Donnie and Marie Osmund. Which is only a degree or two off from Barry Manilow, except that if you watch them closely when they perform, they seem not to take themselves too seriously, while Manilow does.

It must be a guilty pleasure if I had to explain it, huh? :-)

see, at school my friends mock such selections and call me mainstream. But while they listen exclusively to Linkin Park and Papa Roach, I along with such pleasures, listen to things that, well, if they heard frankly their heads would explode. balance the scales....

also some really melancholy, thoughtful singer-songwriters i like, although not guilty about...

nothing like variety!

"Guilty Pleasures" for me would be music that I cannot explain my appreciation for. I could write a twenty page essay detailing the greatness of Devin Townsend's music, but I wouldn't have many words of praise for, let's say, KMFDM, but I like them anyway.

I am not exceptionally critical of most music. I mainly regard flaws as necessary parts of a whole. To remove these flaws is like going back in time to kill Hitler - It should be a positive thing but there might be unforeseen consequences. The slightest changes to a magical but flawed album may or may not kill the magic. So I can actually enjoy most music that isn't boring or obnoxious to my ears - most though not all mainstream music tends to be for the very reasons that it is mainstream.

The old school pokemon games and Katy Perry.

I don't know who Katy Perry is, but I used to love my old Pokemon Blue when it first came out when I was like 12. In fact, I recently downloaded a GBA emulator for the FF1 action and after I beat it twice I downloaded Pokemon LeafGreen and Emerald.

I've never heard of Paramore, either.

...And Justice For All

oh, and...Katy Perry is ok..........i swear, that is all!

i think my main problem with mainstream or top 40 music is the core listeners reasons for listening. not usually for love of the music but because it is what everyone else is listening to. not neccassarily the music is repulsive.

Tori Amos is sort of my guilty pleasure if I don't vomit while listening too intently to the lyrics.

But like the others said, nostalgia is the key. I listened to her when I was 16 a lot, went to all the shows when she came to town. Now I just think her lyrics are cheesy. Don't know what I liked in that music, but now if I listen to it sometimes it brings out buried memories.

I like that song "Dancing Queen" by Abba.

Don't you fucking tell anyone.

It's completely acceptable to like Abba. In Sweden, everybody likes Abba. I don't want to like Abba but I like Abba. Some Swedes will claim not to like Abba, they are liars.

Wow. Me, too. And I hated myself for it. I think I got rid of TV shortly after that one, too.

Also, I was crazy super into Beverly Hills, 90210. I have seen every episode.

And then there was the stretch of time when I would secretly watch romantic comedies and cry at the endings.

But especially, 1940s-1950s Hollywood musicals. They can be cheesy as all get out, but I still maintain they're good. I wish I could just break out in song and dance. How nice to be so expressive!

that is one thing i will never relate to. I don't think women ever can be physically attracted to people whose personalities disgust them. I usually can only be physically attracted to people whose behavior I have been able to observe. I cannot even imagine my body responding to someone whose personality is repuslive.

edit: i shouldn't generalize, just say 'i' throughout the post.

Well, I guess Japanese and Korean pop like Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi's "TABOO", Utada Hikaru, Namie Amuro, SNSD's "Tell Me Your Wish" and SHINee are what people consider 'guilty pleasures', but I've stopped giving a !$#% quite some time ago. They're fun to listen to, and I like listening to them from time to time.

This, along with the fact that I'm a passionate Dir en grey fan and an extreme metal hater gives me an instant 'loser' label.

Hilarious. Especially the people that do that.

Guilty musical pleasures?

I "like" to listen to the Top 40, but I what I really enjoy about it is trying to guess what story they were trying to tell but failed because it is studio-produced pop bulls---. I mine the music for the "cultural themes" that they've often ham-handedly thrown together, and then try to find the intellectual root of that cultural theme*. Of course, by then I've forgotten about the music entirely.

With a song like "Dancing Queen", every time she goes "looking for a king" but then "anybody could be that guy", I always think: this person is a complete narcissist, no wonder this is such a tragic tale!

Yeah, so I have a little hyper "NT" that doesn't lend itself to enjoying much music.

* Easy example: Crappy "country song" = romance of the days of yore = yearning for the "state of nature" = Rousseauian root.

That's nothing to be guilty about, that show is true art IMO.
