Glorifying Idiosyncrasy

Hello. I'm 17 and I wonder if INTPs tend to value weirdness in and of itself.

For example, I remember watching a nationally successful high school debater touch his temple while making intense arguments, and I thought to myself, "Surely that is a badge of intelligence!" Lately I have incorporated this gesture so much into my routine that I don't even know that I'm doing it anymore.

And this pleases me.

I wear white shoes to debate tournaments and I get stared it.

I have strange hobbies like freestyle rap

I purposefully start off conversations with perplexing statements like "Whose world is this?" just to avoid small-talk.

I have forgotten how to swing my arms naturally. My arms are now either folded, behind my back, or in some other locked position.

All these traits, I approve of. Why? Do you ever have the fear of being just like everyone else. Or worse: being just like everyone else EXCEPT a little bit worse. Idiosyncrasies are like insurance. No matter how incompetent you convince yourself you are, these quirks make you unique.

And because I do the same thing, I'm going to analyze what you said. Fun, right?

Weirdness is relative. Introverted functions (like our dominant introverted thinking) operate subjectively, which is why we are so comfortable holding a viewpoint that is different from everyone else in the room. We are simply not very affected by appeals to consensus of thought. That makes us a little weird.

Now couple that with our secondary function (extraverted intuition) and it becomes evident that we easily see the connection between things, and simple conformity is far too boring to participate in. It isn't the drive that makes us different, but it is where we appreciate our weirdness as something valuable.

If the people around me viewed me as normal, I would probably be happy for about... hmm... maybe up to a day before that idea would make me depressed. There's just something so uncreative about normal. There's no reason to pursue it except to stifle originality. I always admire the fashion sense of ENTPs and ENFPs because they so specifically choose clothes that have either terribly obscure connections or no connections at all (they're the ones you'll likely see wearing dress slacks tucked into military boots).

Took the words right out of my mouth. (If I had the ability to express them lol). I find the concept of being normal to be depressing. If someone tells me I'm "weird" I take it as a complement.

But I do not value uniqueness per se, I just value the fact that some people are not afraid to stray or even go against the mindless mainstream.
