Hi. I was wondering what sort of makes there are that are very exploratory in nature but still possesses some framework so you're not entirely lost at sea. I'll looking for a game (video game, card, board, whatever) I could play with my sister who's eleven. She isn't your ordinary eleven year old though. She's extremely imaginative and highly intelligent. So basically, I can treat her as an equal. Any suggestions? Thanks.

More information is required for query.

Exploratory- should that be the defining gameplay mechanic or are you looking for anything open-ended and not linear.

Play with your sister- as in cooperative, versus or would you be content to just watch her play and give advice/make comments?

Something along the lines of say Dungeons and Dragons? (never played the game, only heard of it and read about it)

More of cooperative play would be nice.

Could try the upcoming dragonage inquisition. It has a multiplayer campaign you can do with your sister. And a 200hr perfectionist campaign you can do yourself.

If you have two machines (laptop and PC or two PCs, etc...) I highly recommend Neverwinter Nights. You will most likely need to set up a multiplayer coop with Hamachi, but it will be worth it (or just through LAN). It's a RPG with Dungeons and Dragons rules, an old game, but aged quite well.

Agree. I prefer multiplayer boardgames/card games over electronic ones.

A selection of board games to try:
Shogun (2+ players, best experience with 4 players, strategy)
One of the best grand strategy games I've seen, it has a random element with global events, during the battles and selecting provinces which I find not too disruptive. Most of the game is focused on action allocation, both military and economic decisions which translate to victory points after each of the game years.

Fury of Dracula (2+ players, best experience with 3+ players, action/roleplaying elements)
This is a very enjoyable game following the standard one player with all others cooperating against him. The antagonist plays as Count Dracula and depending on the time of the day, has a wide range of abilities to disrupt opponents, travel or interact with the location by setting traps and roadblocks. The goal of the vampire hunters is to defeat him, while Dracula has to create vampires using various game mechanics. One of the most enjoyable features is the track left by Dracula, that lasts several days and can be discovered by the hunters while they encounter the traps.

Twilight Struggle (2 players only, the best 1v1 experience in board games, strategy)
The description can be found online, this game simulates the cold war struggle between the US and USSR and its only negative lies in being a two player game.
