Most are either starting this week or next (Me). Do you have any lofty goals for the fall?

I've finally set a course for the next few years of my life and I'm trying to get into the University of Minnesota, so I need the best grades I can get. For the first time in my life, I'm going to try and get straight A's. I'm totally serious about it and have never tried before...You know the whole "just enough to get by" routine has been over-played in my life.
I'm going to try and find some people to help me stay focused like a study group, but with life. So.... a life group.

...I'll pay them dammit! :) I just want to keep this motivated steam rolling on at least into November; My attention/concern usually fades by late September/early October.

This semester I've got:
General Chemistry
Engineering Physics: Mech & Wave Motion
Physics Calc & Practice
Calculus

I'm going into the equivalent of high school's final year at the end of this month. I don't know when exactly we're back. It'll be a tough year because of the incoming state exams, which are basically our SATs in that the results determine whether we get a course or not. I have no idea what I want to do when it's all over, so as of now I am almost completely unmotivated to achieve anything.

We don't have semesters - our courses are all two years long, having started in August last year.

Why is your goal short term and not focused until the end of a school year...June 2012?

Going into my senior year as a chemistry major (classes start on the 30th; Montana State):

CHMY533 - Physical Organic Chemistry
HDHL455 - Ethics of Care
CLS460 - Student Fellow Instruction
CHMY492 - Teacher Assistantship
CHMY490 - Undergraduate Research

I am taking it easy this semester, I did A LOT last semester. I will be mostly focusing on my research (organic synthesis), and getting into a graduate school. I am applying to schools in Oregon and Washington.

Good luck meeting your goal. I've found, however, that achieving an academic goal for the sake of achieving it is much harder than I always make it seem - I need to want to learn what I'm learning for some practical future application.

I'm going into my junior year as a biochem major and, thankfully, I have a pretty light load this semester:

Molecular Genetics + the lab
Organismal Biology
Intro to Fiction (aka English)
Physical Chemistry (I am most likely dropping this, hence the light load)

I'm kind of playing catch-up with biology courses since I just switched to this major after doing chemical engineering for 3 semesters

I'm also trying to get an undergrad research position as well, which is proving difficult seeing as I have yet to email a single professor

My classes:

Intro of Software Development
Calculus I
Principles of Physics
lab for said physics class
Advanced Writing and Critical Thinking (gen ed)
piano lessons
Book of Mormon

It comes out to be 17 credits. I think it's going to be exciting. I already bought my books for calculus and physics, and it looks really fascinating, though it will be challenging. Just how I like it. I don't have any particular academic goals except that at BYU-I, there's a GPA scholarship. If I get straight As this semester, I can get a full ride scholarship for next semester. Wish me luck...

@ Indigo Sensor: I almost went to Montana State as well.

I have:
Physical Chemistry I
General Biochemistry I
Real Analysis I
Math research project

totaling 16 credits.

This will be a fun semester (not being sarcastic). The only thing that's disappointing is that I think p chem will be too easy.

Don't let this kill the next two years of your life. I did that and now I'm severely behind my original pace. Not at all saying you should have your life planned...I don't. But as a master procrastinator (assuming you're INTP), you'll do yourself a favor by at least being nearly finished with some worthwhile study. Something stimulating you can do while you're trying to map the next destination in your life....I think that's what I'm doing.

@pants
I just changed my screensaver to a NASA photo of Triton and Uranus, so it's not going here. I'll have to find somewhere else to put the emblem.

My goal for Fall Semster 2010 (and also Spring Semester 2011):

To show up to class.

Do not, however, underestimate the difficulty of this task. My freshman year I was absent 60 times. And although I passed the year with a 3.571 GPA, I spent a day in court and had the Assistant Principal up my ass all summer to make up the time I missed, and had just about everyone I talked to tell me that I would be forced to repeat the year (which was BS, but I didn't know that at the time, and it was frighting, when I thought it was true, I considered dropping out and disappearing).

You must know, when I set my mind to something, I can get pretty damn intense. As in, I'm not simply expecting myself to stay below the radar with absences, but am actually shooting for perfect attendance.

School hasn't even started and I'm having recurring nightmares of failing at this goal (I mean, being late to class by half a second would make me a failure;I'd be ruined).

I realize it's a bit much pressure-wise, but I've had people be outwardly rude to me because of my absences, and I don't appreciate that type of attention, I really don't.

Given how serious I'm taking this one goal, I haven't created challenge for myself anywhere else, really. My course load is made up mostly of classes I'm required.

Algebra II
World History
Chemistry I
Teen Leadership, whatever the hell that is
PE
Debate
English II

I know I can probably make it by those classes with an A, if not a B, so I'm not really going to worry much. I need to take it one step at a time. I'll wait until junior year until I become one of those people that measures their self worth by their GPA.

My goal is to survive.

I was always an all-nighter last-minute procrastinator. Now that I will be working full time while going to school, it's going to be rough...
