Well I bought the new Fallout today, very unlike me, I usually wait about 6months min until I get it, but something talked me into walking in the game store and buying it.

So far after about an hour of playing, I have come to the realization this will turn out like some western movie, which I am not fond of. It does seem to have some better made ingame features than 3 did, but 3 just had a feeling that I liked, always on the edge of death, this one so far seems easy going, but I will know more once I get further.

Anyhow, anyone else get it, and what do you think?

Haven't got it yet.

My only gripe with Fallout 3 was that increasing the difficulty just gives the enemies more health, that's not more difficult, that's just more annoying, although I suppose I'm accustomed to more hardcore FPSRPGs like S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat (there's a series, though the latest is the least buggy) in which near-certain death is always just around the corner.

It's called Hardcore mode. Turn it on. Basically it makes it harder by having survivor aspect such as dehydration, starvation ect. Looking forward to when I get it

I have so many hours in that game. Eventually I just started making new games and killing everyone, laying nova before playing with her dead body, release slaves in paradise falls and watch them get gunned down, decorate my house with bodies, kill myself and see how high I could make my body fly in relation to tenpenny tower. Pretty good stuff

I opted for not using Hardcore mode until I learn the new system, but think it was a mistake since I got some goodies from getting it the day it came out, sort of cheating that I can't turn off, makes hardcore mode just run like normal, I don't have to even try to survive, kind of lame, wish I could delete the small download, but I can't seem to find the damn thing.

It's called Hardcore mode.
Oh please, fighting a dozen assault rifle armed bandits for a can of baked beans because you're starving to death, in a game where getting shot means you'll need to use first aid or else bleed to death, that's hardcore.

Not to mention the virtually invisible gravitational anomalies that'll suck you in and spit you out like confetti, or the psychic anomalies that’ll send you insane, or the acid bath anomalies or the various mutants out to get you which can either shrug off a dozen shotgun rounds to the face, rip the gun out of your hands with telekinesis, or just mind rape you into submission.

And it gets better :D

Vanilla Fallout 3, even with difficulty levels, is a joke. There are plenty of mods for Fallout 3 that make it realistic and add that extra challenge, Cognisant. Most increase the combat damage and lower both your and the NPC's health. These mods can definitely give you that "near-certain death" feeling like STALKER. There's even one that causes an excretion need... just don't get ambushed with your pants down! Check out the Fallout 3 Nexus.

As for New Vegas, I picked up a copy from Wal-Mart today on a whim. I guess that they had some pre-orders left over because they gave me one with the caravan bonus pack, which I don't want.

So, if anyone is getting the game and wants the caravan pack, just let me know. ;)

I still remember Kotor 2. Almost ruined my love of games. I hoped to never buy another Obsidian game again but then I loved F3 so meh, got no choice.

Got it when it came out but so far I've only had time to put about 3 hours in (guess I should be playing now instead of posting). Having beaten Fallout 3 four different times (the last time completing all quests in under 3 days) I turned Hardcore mode on immediately - and man that shit is hardcore.

If it gets too rough I can always turn it back to normal, but right now I'm loving it. Having already played 3 to death I don't think I'd really be enjoying it so much if it wasn't for the added struggle of HC mode. But having every fight be a real life or death fight, and needing to constantly manage my food/water/ammo/etc. really makes it feel like my life is in constant danger in some post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Hum, my bonus pack was called Classic Pack, which is sort of cool to have since it does put some cool items ingame that would other wise be unobtainable, and can alway be discarded if you wish to not have them.
Also I am thinking I will reload from my 1st save so I can turn Hardcore mode on from the start. Also it has another cool form of realism, when walking into a dark room from a lighted room, you eyes/vision, has to adjust, this is done via perception. Also the luck skill has been greatly improved making it useful to take. But this stuff I guess one could read about at any gaming web site.

Edit: Forgot to mention, thus far, no cool DJ. Makes me sad, he sounds really lame like real life radio people.

I take it all back. Hardcore mode isn't nearly that hard, I was just wandering in to towns at level 1 and trying to kill everything which made it seem like they were doing more damage than in Fallout 3. The eat/drink/sleep stuff barely even affects me as I generally have way more food/water/beds than I know what to do with. The only time I really even notice is when I occasionally get sick from not doing any of that and am encumbered for 15 seconds until I fix it. Point is, definitely play on hardcore, because it isn't that much harder anyway.

There are a lot of slowdowns and freezes, particularly now that I've opened up most of the wasteland. Had to restart the system 3 times so far because of it freezing up. I'm playing the PS3 version though and from what I hear PC and 360 have more glitches.

So far it feels more like a really big expansion pack, and the missions, locations and story don't seem quite as cool as in Fallout 3. DC just had so many recognizable locations to visit, while in New Vegas there's really just the Strip, Hoover dam and Helios 1. Based on some of the hints I have a bad feeling the plot is going to unfold fairly similarly to F3 too, but won't know until I've made a bit more progress. There are some improvements over F3 but also some annoying stuff that wasn't annoying in F3 (the invisible walls preventing me from going over mountains, in particular), so overall I can't really say it's better or worse. But Bethesda's in-house studio is supposed to be working on Fallout 4 now, so I'm guessing they're saving a lot of the real good stuff for that one.

To be fair I played it for almost 12 hours yesterday, so it can't be that bad.

I was supposed to be doing homework, but Fallout was calling and the biology work got forgotten... Yeah the 360 has lots of glitches, I have to restart it every so often, sometimes it will just freeze up in conversation or when going through doors, it even freezes up when loading the start screen up haha. Doesn't have a real dramatic story line, so it is almost a free roam side line entire game. And the hardcore mode is a joke, I haven't even noticed it, usually after getting hurt I take foods which keep the HC mode stuff down, only thing that is bad is that ammo weights about lets see, 0.0001 per ammo, it is probably more but I can barely notice it. So take HC to get the extra item at the end.

BTW does anyone else find it very easy to get rich in this game? F3 I was poor as dirt, even when I went evil, but on here at lvl 2 I had about 2k caps. Now I have near 10k at lvl 6.

I'm running the PC version and it's fairly stable now that I've updated it. I was getting about 20FPS outside until I found a fix and now I'm getting about 35-40.

I agree that it is easy to get rich. I've been making a fortune from blackjack.

I'm actually enjoying the quests a lot, I haven't encountered a fetch quest! The combat seems a bit easy, I may turn on hardcore mode.

Wow you are lucky all I have had was fetch quests for the past 2 days. Which keep opening other fetch quests, I hate those.

Eh...I definitely don't enjoy the atmosphere or storyline as much as Fallout 3. Call me a sucker for grand, epic tales of heroism and villainy, but Obsidian's focus on "personal quests" don't seem to grip me quite as tightly as the awesomeness that was the backdrop for FO3...and sadly, I'm also not getting much of the "shades of grey" tone (in New Vegas) that I thought would be present. It's still a good game, no doubt, but I like FO3 (and Three Dog) much, much, better.

Also, it pretty much is a post-apocalyptic version of the Wild West...which again, really isn't as cool as the plain old Zeerust-inspired Post-Apocalyptic world in FO3.

Hardcore mode is an improvement, but the game is still somewhat mediocre even compared to Fallout 3.

Haven't played it yet. I didn't like FO3 very much compared to the first one. It was missing atmosphere and story depth. Mods easily fix the game play issues though.

If they go on a western theme I hope they have a Fallout set in the south somewhere, that might be interesting. Point Lookout for FO3 was really interesting and scary imo.

i like fallout new vegas much more than Fallout 3. It has so much better gameplay.. okay the graphics are still the same as is the sound and the controls but the atmosphere is way friendlier than in fallout 3.. i played through it 2 times now and never really fought any mutants.. i hate them.. i rather fight real people and gangs..
