I first found out that I was considered a INTP awhile ago, but now I'm having second thoughts as to whether that is the truth or not.
So I decided to take the same test again, but this time answer the questions based on how I am when I'm completely alone, and as truthfully as I can. This time it came out to be INFP, which after reading the description does sound like me, but I'm still having a debative talk in my head.

So that leads to the question as to what you guys would think, and I can give some more info if it is requested.

You are yourself. Don't bind yourself to the descriptions of a test simply because that's what it calls defines you. You define who you are.

To tell you the truth, Luminates, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The MBTI isn't the be-all end-all, and its value is more of a guide/starting point to finding out about your personality. As you've probably already found out, the test isn't quite accurate in divining someone's "true" personality (if such a thing exists or can even be measured according to the dichotomies presented) - I wouldn't fret about whether or not you're an INTP/INFP/whatever.

However, if you really do want to "know" your type, I'd suggest reading this description of an INTP, and comparing it to this description of an INFP, and trying to figure out for yourself which one you think you resemble more...and if you can't come to a decision, like I said earlier, it's probably a problem with the test and the theory rather than you not having a set type (unless you have dissociative identity disorder ;)).

That is very true, but I believe that even though your personality doesn't completely defy who you are, it does give you a general and broad idea as to who you can be in life. And I'm the type of person who can't live in a world shrouded my mystery, I love to find the truth behind things, and I can't start exploring the world If I'm not even sure about myself.

Alright, then we should end this with one question: More apathetic or more emotional?

INTP or INFP, neither are fully you. Free yourself of this temporary identity and find the real Luminates. These personality types are interesting, but they aren't completely true. So find the truth about yourself outside of the MBTI realm. It's a great spotlight on personality, but there's still a lot of darkness out there. If you wanna find yourself just try talking to other people. The best place to see yourself is in others.

...This doesn't work.

Indeed, but it leaves the illusion that it does, which is enough for now.

These "what am I" questions...somehow, I feel they're simply meant for the satisfaction of "answer".

everyone wants to find the answers without search for them, but that never really happens in reality does it? (oh wait, forgot about google :slashnew:)

You could be an INXP.

There are billions of people on earth and only 16 types, what makes you think that everyone will fit neatly into some category?

Well having posted one of these threads myself yesterday I probably shouldn't be saying it's pointless, but I can see why it is. I like being as honest as possible and if a question on here requests the opinions of INTP's only I'd like to be sure I should be answering them, that was my reason for wanting to know. It's not going to change my life in any way - I'm still me and there will be quirks that stop me fitting perfectly in any box, but the 16 types all have their distinguishing features so everyone should fit "best" into one of them (IMO)

Reading the various profiles is giving me a better understanding of how and why other people do things even if I'm not sure who kinda fits which box. The first time I read the INTP one I found myself laughing at how absurd some of my thoughts and behaviour (in relation to interaction with others) are, which was the start of improving myself as a human being - read some INTP and INFP profiles, laugh at anything that, on paper, sound ridiculous yet you recognise yourself as doing and if you don't like it change it. Or at least be aware why you get strange looks when you do.

At the end of the day the only person who knows which box you fit best is you, once this is answered you can move on to thinking about the bigger picture.

It is not so much that not everyone fits into the 16 types, it is that the 16 types are extremely poorly defined, and are far more nuanced and complex than the current standards could possibly imagine.
