Debricked a router...

I"m really happy today, I was working (computer shop), and I was able to take home a bricked router that was better than what I had, and I was able to reload the corrupted firmware on it. I just wanted to say HA! Thus concludes my meaningles topic...

I was going to hack into my router, because no one knew the password/username to get in it (hadn't been touched in years), but I ended up not needing to.

That was good. Though I kind of wanted to hack it....


Then I was going to upgrade the firmware to some sweet ipen source firmware out there...

But I found out my router was one model too old.

That was bad.

I knew of the reset button the whole time... there were other complications. It was just messy. Basically, there was information on the router that no one knew anymore. Eventually I was able to reset that information, so that it was ok to reset the router.

Yeah, my dad did all the custom firmware, and he put it allon, and he was all ecstatic, until I asked one question: "What does it do now that it couldn't do before?"

No answer...

All though we have a PIII box that we plan to turn into a firewall...

I don't know of much that takes care of that router in terms of custom firmware, the only reason to have custom firmware is to make sure that your organs get fried by the signal that's put out by the wireless (yay for up to 4x signal strength) and to control Quality of Service stuff. That said, I'm happy with my Thibor WRT54g broadcasting at 83mW. 5 bars through 2 floors and brick.

Some WRT54g model right? If not, they rule. Also, you said that you have a P3 that you are going to turn into a firewall. I suggest smoothwall or a clarkconnect server. Both are free. One is Linux and the other is FreeBSD.

Smoothwall is awesome.
