'ey up - not sure if this thread's been made somewhere else, but there are so many forums!

I was wondering what courses or careers other INTPs have pursued? I was interested as I didn't do a science / maths related course - I majored in English literature and have just completed an MA in Victorian Literature. Anybody else ended up doing more humanities based courses?

That said I've been doing web programming on and off for a bit and am now looking for a full time job in it, as English-y jobs don't tend to pay very much, and I need to fund my PhD!

I'm a somewhat non-stereotypical INTP. I've always been more into english, art, and music rather than math/science. That's starting to change a little, but I'm still not passionate about the number crunching that comes with those areas.

I'm currently majoring in Graphic Design, though that's subject to change. I'm taking classes such as drawing, intro to Graphic Design, art and propaganda, Developing World, definitely humanities related.

As for careers, I'm not exactly sure what I want to do. I've been considering stuff like web design, animation, software design, I'm all over the place and wish I could do it all but I can't.

I know how you feel about wanting to do everything. I'm also pretty eclectic in tastes - music's a big hobby for me as well, but I've always been crap at drawing.

As for careers in web design - I'm not sure how to go about it from the graphics POV but ... I do know a couple of designers who started off with programming (as lots of companies are looking for PHP/MySQL programmers) and then once they'd gotten their leg in got to a position where they could concentrate on design. There's loads of free documentation online for learning PHP, and I think it's a fairly easy programming language to get to grips with.

I like art and english more than math and science.

That being said:

I went to college for fashion design. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I learned about textiles - what they're good for, what they're made from, how to treat them. I learned pattern drafting - making a map of a 3D shape on 2D paper. I learned custom fitting - measuring and remeasuring a body and making adjustments to familiar formulas. Reading fashion magazines was part of the curriculum - design analysis (how would you reproduce this garment?) and keeping up with what's current.

I haven't been able to use my education yet, and I'm thinking about going for another year, but just the experience of going and learning was very valuable to me.

I have varied interests, primarily math. I have a BS in mathematics, I'm too annoyed/disenfranchised to pursue a job in the corporate world... in accounting/actuarial/computer science... so I've decided to get a teaching certification for high school math.

Ideally I'd like a career that mixes my love of learning, with math, music and general creativity. A long term plan I have is that once I get situated teaching I will parley teaching, my musical ability and sense of humor into some sort of edutainment product.

Despite being INTP, this career seems to fit me okay, since I don't mind helping people, and have an almost extreme level of patience.

So what I've done is learn what I love and then teach it.

After graduating college I went through some rough time trying to find a job, and deciding what I wanted to do post college. I didn't get good enough grades, and feel I wasn't bright/dedicated enough to do the graduate programs I wanted to. At one point I was fully committed to going to a school for becoming an audio engineer, then it was going to a college to study DSP and then I got a crappy IT job... and thought IT might be my career...(that lasted roughly 36 hours). So far teaching has been the only constant in my job search... so that is the way life is pushing me... so that's the field I'm bending my life towards.

BA in English Lit with a minor in Philosophy. * I dream of saving up enough money to go to Grad school some day.

Also, I'd love to have my own little bakery some day. I really love cooking and baking and I (think) I'd really like having a little shop of my own.

All that being noted: Can I be a gypsy?

*I'm currently scrabbling my way through middle management in customer service. It pays the bills.

I've just started on a degree course in Materials Science & Technology/Materials Engineering. As for careers I haven't thought about it yet, but I'll probably end up in R&D
