These pests ('Yponomeuta evonymella' of the ermine moth family) infest bird cherries every summer. Around where I live, infected trees are rather common so the creepy-effect as worn off somewhat. The larvae basicly eat the leaves and leave something resembling a spiderweb in their place. The tree itself also turns white, giving it a ghostly appearance.
