This is a correlation, not causation. Meaning that your being lazy doesn't mean you are intelligent, but that intelligent people are often viewed as lazy.

This demonstrates my view on the topic of INTP laziness, which is that it can be simply a matter of that thinking is viewed as not doing something.

To be fair, your thinking process can't be checked easily for activity unlike say, carrying stacks of paper.

As for INTP laziness, scribbling on a notepad or reading stuff on your computer seems to do the trick to avoid being accused as lazy. They don't cost too much energy so your thinking process won't be affected much (it might even be improved. Notepads are quite handy when an idea hits you).

There's also the fact that INTPs like to offset actual work by thinking of ever more efficient ways of doing things. So we look like we're doing nothing.

The view of what is lazy is changing more and more particularly now that we are in the computer age. The INTP laziness is less attributed to their intellectuality and more to those that spend all their time considering but never doing and applying. Until you actually apply what you have been working on in your head into real life, it is hidden from the view of others. No one can see what you built in your head.

An INTP who can bring their thoughts to life is not only viewed as intelligent bit also driven.

I literally walk around everywhere scribbling on a notepad.. People find it disconcerting.

Ugh, living with my ESFP cousin at the moment she asks me every 5 minutes if I'm bored, and when I say no she's like "How are you not bored you've just been say there all day?!?!"

... "Because, dear cousin, I'm trying to find the answer to the universe!"

lol

I am working hard in order to not work.
It is just the way that I think, the unconscious mind need it time to solve complex problems, also I am starting to think that my brain is trying to challenge itself by limiting the time(doing things at the last minute) .
And of course there is prioritizing, society boring shit is less important.

This text was reprinted under the title “Selecting Officers” in the “United States Naval Institute Proceedings” in March 1933 and in the “Review of Military Literature: The Command and General Staff School Quarterly” in September 1933.

General Freiherr von Hammerstein-Equord, the present chief of the German Army, has a method of selecting officers which strikes us as being highly original and peculiarly un-*Prussian. According to Exchange, a Berlin newspaper has printed the following as his answer to a query as to how he judged his officers: “I divide my officers into four classes as follows: The clever, the industrious, the lazy, and the stupid. Each officer always possesses two of these qualities.

Those who are clever and industrious I appoint to the General Staff. Use can under certain circumstances be made of those who are stupid and lazy. The man who is clever and lazy qualifies for the highest leadership posts. He has the requisite nerves and the mental clarity for difficult decisions. But whoever is stupid and industrious must be got rid of, for he is too dangerous.”
When I first heard this (paraphrased) quote it was allegedly 19th century British navy doctrine, after having done some research I have no idea where it came from but I can say for sure it's quoted everywhere.

What I heard was: If a man is clever and industrious put him to work, if a man is stupid and lazy put the lash to his back; if a man is clever and lazy make him an officer but if he's stupid and industrious throw him overboard.

I am hearing the same thing. The concept is interesting... I must now calculate! Thank you for sharing this! :)

Only really read the thread title, but is it saying something like "people who are intuitive have a tendency to neglect the world of the senses"?

How intelligent are you, along with corresponding laziness, if you spend 56 hours a week on the internet?

How many people actually read the article? Or did we all just read the blog?

The blog is a terrible misrepresentation of the actual article.

We're all lazy geniuses, why would we do that? Obviously those who read the article lose (just in case people weren't aware this is a competition)

So far those winning are those too lazy to post in this thread.

Good point. The only winners are the silent readers of this thread.

The irony of these self-defeating statements only increases because I made the effort to point them out, just to be included alongside them.

The meta intensifies.

Redbaron is right.

Here's the actual paper.

Per the words of the researchers:

The overall findings showed that low-need-for-cognition individuals were more physically active, but this difference was most pronounced during the 5-day work week and lessened during the weekend.
with need-for-cognition (NFC) defined as (underline mine):

NFC is defined as a tendency to engage in and enjoy effortful cognitive endeavors
I think the more apt conclusion on the article is "people who enjoy working in strenuous tasks is less likely to work with physical ones since they're already stimulated enough due to said tasks."

The authors simply want people to be more aware that they still need to exert some physical effort ranging from fidgeting to making your workstation a treadmill.

If we're going to apply the lessons that the author wants us to have in our daily lives it would be:

Physically lazy INTP's need to move their asses if they want to be brilliant and lean at the same time.

Did they look at food intake and types of food in relation to CFC? They cannot just look at exercise when examining obesity and health.

But actually that blog article is so garbage and misrepresents the study in about 472 different ways. Pyropyro began what I was too lazy to even start.

Anyway the original article doesn't even mention intelligence or laziness, the blog just inserts that because fuck intellectual integrity I guess. Then Architect links the blog and just makes it about MBTI because "muh INTP theories" when it actually has fucking nothing to do with laziness, intelligence or MBTI at all.

Buh muh theoriez redbarren and dis wun tym i had an argument and i outlogik'd sum1!!!!!!! No1 can beet my logik!! I luv socratez and mathematicz so InTp lol!!!

Let's wait till they replicate this study 2 more times and have them change their mind completely to suggest opposite results, oh wait, they won't replicate because:
a/they are too lazy
b/they won't get paid to do that and nobody cares about replication studies
c/even if they do nobody will publish it and you'll never know

Plus what RB and Pyro said, someone happened to interpret some pretty boring statistically significant results to make them a bit less boring, happens all the time.

You Ti Doms need to learn to use a battle sword. If a man insults your old lady and you stab him he is less likely to do so again.

Unless you are a masochist who enjoys the abuse...?

Insult my mommy! Oh I Like that! Do it again PLeaseseee!

translation:

my intelligence is too high to refute; laziness =/= high intelligence

Another INTP shows their true colors :phear:
I hate speaking for others, but I'm pretty sure the correct translation is:

"I don't really give a shit, but maybe you're right."

OR...

"I acknowledge that this study may not say INTP's are lazy or that laziness = intelligent but I do so by conceding in a way that looks like I put in the least amount of effort to do so opening up my comment for ambiguity and interpretation of my own laziness and intelligence as a Professional INTP"

laziness might not equal more intelligent but Architect, I believe, still thinks INTP's are both lazy and intelligent.

I was just trying to be funny but now the funny is almost gone because I needed to elaborate so much.

Please help me understand INTP's, I am not Grayman.

LOL, such intellectual laziness you INTPs have.

Really, just because your mom really is a whore doesn't mean you shouldn't defend her honor. It is the principle of the insult and the intention behind it that makes it worth a battle.

A thought: Perhaps a low EQ in INTPs leads to social laziness.

I have to point out RedBarons bullshit argument but Id prefer to do so when I have access to a keyboard. Please stay tuned for another episode of Grayman gone wild uncensored and fully exposed.

The key phrase in the article is "seem to support". As it intuitively plausible but unproven. The proper and best action to take next is to find evidence that NFC individuals statistically have high IQ scores.

Laziness is a subjective term but I think we understand based on the context what it means.

I can only speak for myself, I am not certain that it is low EQ, more as lack of use and interest of using EQ.Not that I don't have potential, it is I don't have the focus to use the EQ for more than short bursts(and no,wanting to have focus does not change it much), therefore not spending time to develop the skill of using EQ .
You got it upside down and all wrong , society is not nearly stimulating enough, just not interesting to me, only in society point of view it is looking like "laziness" and "low EQ"

I think they build on each other. You increase your intelligence because you are stimulated. Your increased intelligence means more neural connections and therfore more chance of being stimulated. Increased stimulation then means more time spent in developing your intelligence.

The experience would be like when you know more about a subject you are more stimulated by various data about the subject because your mind can use that data in more ways than if you knew very little.

Prolly the best point of the thread, IMO.

anyways, I was always that kid where the Teachers would write stuff like "QT is smart, but he needs to apply himself more" so naturally, my parents tried to tell me to apply myself more, but it never really caught on. Don't be me.

This is a joke btw, thought I would spell it out because I have a hunch that the joke would not be gotten if I didn't and I'm not quite lazy enough to be satisfied with knowing people don't get its a joke.
