But the baby was 30 hours old when they began treatment. This is a good thing, still.

It's amazing that now there will be children living their lives with no bearing of others mistakes. I mean we can actually now see a day where AIDS will be eradicated.

I'm hearing that this is the first time, but I'm still trying to confirm if that's true. Input on other cases?

Isn't it possible that this individual has an extraordinarily strong immune system, strong enough to repel the virus in combination with the drugs? Or that the virus is still there but undetectable because of very low concentrations? I don't think we should get our hopes up just yet. Well what do I know, are there any practitioners or students of medicine in here?

Cool, I was just talking to my wife about this after seeing this post. She is in pharmacy school and they were talking about this study too.

What I read said that the virus was still detectable in the humans system, but only when the high sensitivity tests usually only used for research purposes were made, and then it was variations of the virus that were basically incomplete HIV DNA, unable to assimilate a hosts cells in order to replicate.

As far as other cases there was another case in 2007 where a HIV positive patient received bone marrow transplant, for other health reasons, and the donner of the bone marrow tuned out to be a person with a natural immunity to the virus in their own DNA, that Received DNA assimilated into the patients system and eradicated the HIV- essentially a cure.
