Hopefully having the same personality type won't mean this thread is redundant.

Hi! I'm a philovitist. Basically, that means I'm a naive little kid interested in creating some sort of philosophy based on what he hopes can be defined as logical optimism. Funnily, the personality test that brought me here foretold my unease about expressing the thing. Ignore that aspect of; it's a really small one.

I'm a nerd, but the test foretold that, too...
I'll just ignore it.

I'm a student obsessed with things that matter. I loath being called a geek, which I define as a loser (or nonloser) who is obsessed with things that don't matter to anyone. Though, I am a bit geeky. Nerdiness and geekiness overlap.

I also run distance for the Track Team, play activist at school, listen to music (only junk. I can't help it!), and love technology (not a technogeek at all; I just drool when I hear 'Windows 7'). I also read a lot. And if my TV isn't tuned to the news or Sirius XM, it's tuned to comedy (the good, satirical kind), anime, nerd tv (disc, investi, etc.), or my xbox 360, which I sometimes focus on in spontaneous spurts of interest.

I have no clear career interest (which I wanted the p-test to help fix) and am good at every subject. I balance a love for learning with one for success. Not too hard, since they're interconnected.

And coming here has made me hyper. So this thread's tone isn't the most accurate show of myself. But it probably is.

Sorry it's instinct but.... "So this thread's tone isn't the most accurate show of myself. But it probably is." This doesn't make any sense. Also (I'm going to get murdered for this) I actually preferred Vista to Windows 7. That being said I am using Linux.

You preferred Vista, Gopher?? Why? I'm honestly curious, not necessarily making a judgment... yet. I've only used Vista for a couple of days now, but I so wish I could go back to 7. For some reason, it seems like Vista wants me to shut my system down on a daily basis to install updates, where on 7, I was able to leave the computer up for days, sometimes weeks, on end without having to restart for an update. That's really my only complaint with Vista as yet, but ya know...

Anyway, enough about me, this is the new guys intro. Welcome, new guy. Do you mind if I call you Phil? Philovitist just seems like way too much of a mouthful, and I don't think there's any Phil's on the forum yet...

Seriously, welcome. Despite some similarities we're all pretty different from each other around here from what I've seen in my short time here. Vista.....W7.....all I can say is I'm thankful that neither is ME. That OS still gives me nightmares.

Welcome to the forum. I'm relatively new. I've been around for a little while, but I lurk more than I talk. I understand and can relate to everything you said. I carry the geek badge with honor, however. I'm going to be IT certified in CCNA before I graduate high school. I see geek as an expression of someone with incredible skills with technology. Don't let it put you down.

I don't think people into technology are geeks. Technology matters. D&D is something more debatable.

Windows 7 has yet to fail me. It fixes every woe I've ever had with previous versions. It set me a new standard for computer OSs. Of course, I've only experienced other OSs momentarily. My love for technology is pretty unqualified, though earnest.

What do you mean "consider INTJ"? Could I ever change my personality? Besides, I think I read that INTJs are more sure of themselves. That might translate to closemindedness.

Sorry about this I seem to have Hijacked the thread. I was able to get vista to do anything, dos games, and make it compatible with everything. I have to admit the update thing drove me nuts though. I think win 95/98 were the best (in their time though) However I am just fascinated by the 3d Linux desktops right now (and yes I know it can be done in Win 7)

Welcome, Philovitist. I've never made much distinction between geeks and nerds, but I always find it interesting when someone else does. I've been called both; according to Geoffrey Pullam on Language Log, "a nerd will keep his records for June 2008 in a file called 200806 and the ones for July in 200807," so by this definition I am a nerd like you.
