Ageing, Intelligence & US Presidency

I was recently debating about how older (70+) people are expected to be senile/racist, less intelligent/coherent.
I was trying to point out how both front runners for the US election are above 70 yo. In my opinion, it is delusional to think that a 70 year old person would still have the mental capacity to handle such a responsibility.
However i was having difficulties finding evidence to support my claim, maybe 97% of them retire from active workforce so no one bothered studying it?

Which company would actively recruit a 70 year old to become its CEO? Unless youre the founder, you basically retire by your 60s. But apparently the President of the US is a magical position where ageing is cured.
Basically what i wanted to say is if you hand a hand grenade to two 2 year olds youre delusional if you think they eventually wont put it in their mouth and blow up the house.

1. Do you have any evidence to correlate decline in intelligence and age?

2. Why are voters delusional enough to think a 70+ year old person who wouldnt be realistically recruited by any for-profit organistation is fit enough to lead a country?
And why are they surprised when they do & say dumb stuff?

Today's youth are not independent enough or capable enough to live on their own let alone run a country. Those born in 1960 are the most independent and responsible Americans in history. The spent a lot of time building paying tax dying and bleeding for it and have the right to protect it and reserve something of it for the futures of their children.

Whatever they lost in mental sharpness they gain in experience.
Prejudice is bad in all areas not just race and when all you care about is your groups or identities you fail to recognize and fall into prejudiced thinking unknowingly like how you think older people are dumb for example. But dont worry it doesnt make you a bad person just human.

here is an article for you:

Yes, older people are more prone to mental disease just like other diseases but not all old people have a mental disease.

Decline of fluid intelligence with age is abundantly clear. Crystal int goes up though.

Trump is a wildcard, it's not just senility or old age. Of all the reasons not to have him as president, age seems pretty unimportant.

This seems to be a common argument. But why then dont "corporates" hire these 70+ year old people for CEOs etc, instead the average age for being the leader for a company is WAY lower.

Dont tell me that companies are not able to understand these intangibles such as "experience" in selecting people they want to lead their company.

My logic is, if companies work to maximise wealth, then if it was more efficient to hire 70 year old people then they would do it. But they dont.

Also im not asking for young presidents, i feel that 50-65 is like the best age interval imo- not 70+. What i personally feel is people like presidents to be older than them, and because the majority of active voters are old it skews the age to a high level

also, im not shitting you or anything but oprah.com is unlikely to be a strong source to debate with.

The Princes in line get tired of waiting for the king to die. They all want a turn to rule and their chance of surviving until then decreases because the prince's are getting old as well. Plus for the same reason women are less likely to be Ceo s because they are less intelligent. ;)

A shithole site ran by a black woman? Is that what you said? It references the book written by a journalist who interviewed researchers and scientists and reviewed studies. Seems like an educated opinion to me but I guess if you want specific studies we would have to do a lot more googling and I am out of time.

Baby boomers responsible and independent? They belong to arguably the most pampered, narcissistic generation in history.

And the reason millennials are living with their parents is not lack of responsibility. Insanely inflated housing prices and shrinking job market are the reasons. As has been pointed out many times before, millennials are the first generation in modern history that are worse off economically than the previous generation. In fact, they have been handed a shitty economy mostly engineered by baby boomers.

Lack of responsibly which includes blaming others for their predicament, ie babyboomers, but doing nothing to change it. A lack of pragmatism thinking they should be able do whatever they want and be whatever they want in life like this is some fairy tail they live in. Increased amount of abandoned children by fathers. Less housholds with two parents. Less people getting married even though marriage is a huge financial help since you share costs. Better to rely on your parents than to value family and be obligated to them...

I agree they lack pragmatism. They have been sold a lie though: just study whatever you want, preferably jump between a series of different studies to prolong your adolescence, acquire a huge student debt, and in the end you'll be a star who's gonna change the world. But then they graduate and realize that there are no jobs, their degree is useless and housing is overpriced so there's nowhere to live. They don't have responsibility because no one ever taught them to take it.

I have been to a dentist who was above 70. I think he was almost 80. He was also active tennis player. There are even surgeons at that age. The reason people decline with age usually has to do with lack of upkeep. Look at actors. They lok fab even at 70. Doing drugs and alcohol and shit and they still look that good. Thats because they know healthy body makes their living and so they expend some effort to maintain that body. There are lot of old people working until very old age. People who retire early are usually people either with poor genes and health or people who are lazy. But its also important to note that many old people decline rigth after they retire. Because their work routine collapses and they spend all day sitting at the porch petting their cats.
