Found this on accident, not sure how useful it will be, bit figured the parents on the forum may find this useful.

Ha, I filled in how I think I was like when I was a child and I scored as ENP. Interesting. I DO recall enjoying being with friends and such more when I was little.
Is this possible?

I did the same and got ITP. I've always thought when I was a child I was a more "stereotypical" INTP. I began to differentiate a little when I got into my mid-teens and suddenly noticed the world outside. But of course doing the test this way is going to heavily bias it with my perceptions.

I took it answering things depending on what I was told about how I was like as a kid and received ENP. Which I think I am an ENTP, so it may be possible my perception of myself is based off what others think of me.

You can probably see your current self objectively, but how you view yourself from old memories is very different.

Hmm... I'm wondering whether you can change your type to something different from what you were as a child to what you are as an adult. Those teen years are filled with changes. Could these changes potentially change your type?

Scored ENP. I was an ENTP child, but these days I'm far more reserved in my nature.

ENP. Makes total sense to me. I was an energetic child who was the leader of my pack. Very different than I am now I must say. Though even though I acted differently then than I do now. I believe I was still an INP at heart. I didn't like being 'the leader' per se and even though I would talk a lot with my friends I would always become quiet and reserved after a while. I played a lot of sports though (I'm female btw) and was very active. Captain of my cheerleading squad and basketball team by eighth grade I was a horrible leader. For cheerleading the captain was supposed to be in the front leading the exercises but I never did lol. I always would end up in the back and let other people do it much to the chagrin of my coach. I was also not the girly type (more of a tomboy actually). Very different than most in the squad. I just took it because I couldn't stand the dedication you needed in gymnastics so my mom suggested cheerleading instead. I got captain because I could do a back-handspring backtuck. I quit after that year and eventually I quit all the sports I played by sophomore year of highschool. (Softball, basketball, cheerleading, gymnastics, soccer, and volleyball-all the sports I was in at one point or another) My parents hated it because I was the best on every team but I couldn't stand it. It was just too much for me. I didn't like books when I was younger because they didn't stimulate me intellectually though once I found fantasy and sci-fi I became in love with them. I was a kid trying to find myself and I found that what my parents thought was good for me was the opposite of what I was but I was very easy-going as a child. I pretty much did whatever they thought was best....until I got fed up and told them I was done with it all. My parents were disappointed but they took it in stride as I knew they would. In the end looking back I was probably an INP trying to be an ENP. It made me depressed. Eight grade and freshman year were difficult for me. Once I started acting like my true self I started enjoying life a lot more. Even though now I don't have as many friends, I'm not as successful, and not as well-liked, I feel better off. Though sometimes I wish I could be as outgoing as I used to be I will always remember the consequences of it. Anyways, I think that people do change with time and I guess they can change their actions but I don't think they can really change what their type is just how they use functions and how well they use it. But I don't know, I'm just guessing.

I tried to do myself as a child (perverted?) and I got IFP. I can kind of see how they would think that since I was horrified of everyone that did manifest itself in some extreme emotion.

I got ENP.
That makes sense to me. I have always thought that that I/E was a little difficult for me to categorize. Depending on how I answer most MBT tests I am usually score as pretty Introverted. However I do have friends, and I like meeting new people, as long as it is in small groups in a 'secure' situation. I definitely do NOT like going to parties or "gain energy" from other people. Which I think is a more accurate way to define 'introvertedness'. As a child I was the same, I had a few close friends and, in a secure environment, I was loud and boisterous. I also enjoyed talking to adults a lot (usually because they could teach me something new - as soon as I realized that some adults were morons too I became a lot more introverted!). From that point of view I don't think this particular test asked very good questions to correlate to E/I, because most of the time we spent with people we knew (especially if we're doing it from memory) and were reasonably secure with, so the answers come out sounding like Es rather than Is. Going to the checklist at the end, all of those sound like I was (lots of ideas and want to talk about them) except the two singular E traits, Being social, and wanting to be a leader. I certainly refused to be a follower (but that's sort of an NP thing I think), but I didn't really want to lead. And I sure as hell wasn't social, I just had a few good friends I could hang out with. I'm not sure that one CAN test INP on this test since a lot of NP traits questions (i.e. lots of ideas etc) also show E ness. (I'm going to see if I can force it to go INP!) ETA - just checked the site there IS no INP. Yet the site says an ENP will grow into an ENTP or ENFP. So who grows into INTPs? Stupid test Grrr... Apparently ITPs grow up to be INTP (according to the test). Well I went back and changed just a couple of questions to more I traits (i.e. I remember being loud and boisterous, and I said I didn't mind being the center of attention , although again this was only in secure environments) and I immediately got rel-abelled as ITP.

Makes sense. My need for affection from other people slowly declined as I got older, and realized how meaningless all of this was. |

ITP.
It makes sense to me. I started hiding my emotions from my parents at age 4. I rarely cried but if I did I made sure to hide it from everyone. However, I don't know where I got the whole "emotions show weakness" idea so young. I grew up in a family that was very emotionally open and supportive so I feel like that was kind of odd response on my part. I also remember being disturbed by other children's emotions, they just didn't make sense to me. I actually yelled at a girl on the first day of kindergarten to stop crying. I liked to talk to adults but I wasn't very social and I never had a friend until 3rd grade. I spent all of my free time playing with legos, taking apart small electronics (there was a box of random broken things and tools), and reading. On all of my report cards my teachers said that I needed to work on my organization. My mom tried to teach me organizational skills my entire life but it never worked, my living space is still cluttered and disorganized to this day. |

As a child, I didn't have many, if any, friends. Well, not until Grade 5 anyway. I tend to offend people without knowing it or intending to, and I think I still do so I'm surprised that I actually made friends with other people. |

ENP. I think when I was about 11-12 that changed to INP, then INTP and then INFP.

Pssh, I've always thought you knew exactly how insulting you were but couldn't give a shit. You can easily learn to gouge what's considered insulting in different circumstances or not, you know. It'll help you in the long run. |

I know your post was a long time ago, but I just saw it and thought you might like to hear of another MBTI-like child test (sorter) Ours was developed on hundreds of children through the help of students at Cal Poly Pomona, where I was teaching, and items were endlessly replaced until we got a statistically valid set of tests.
You can find them, free of charge and with good feedback, at our main website at www.parentingbytemperament.com Just go to the nav bar and click on Temperament Sorters. They are taken by the parent and have two forms--one for 4-8 year olds and one for 9-12 year olds. |

on the first one. Though I like the idea of dividing it up into ages. I was a lot different when very young than when say ages 9-12

I didn't take this for myself, but for my youngest son. Later I will do it for my middle son, though I suspect his type already(as I suspected correctly for my youngest son). I already know my oldest's type, and my daughter is too young to know other than she is definitly extroverted and, though very rational also highly emotional.
Oldest (age 15, male) ESTP Second (age 12, male) IFP [I suspect, find out later] Third (age 10, male) ITP Fourth (age 6, female) E????????

I can't tell from your response whether you took the 3 letter child test from personality page or our full four preference test. If you haven't tried ours you can find it at www.parentingbytemperament.com by going to the nav bar, selecting temperament sorter and then the age you want (4-8 or 9-12, or adult). Give it a try if you haven't done that! All free.

That kind of bugs me that I checked off sensitive, highly-interested, and highly aware of other people's feelings and emotions, but that I didn't care about getting approval or affection or whatever, and that means ITP. It's a little too obvious what they consider F in this case, and it feels like their understanding is much too one-dimensional, but then again, I can see how that could be the case.
