I have some skills on paper, but not with any software like photoshop... Do you have any specific likes for the forum? Like, expectations? I'd like to help out as much as I can ^^".

How about an eye, with an N, a T and a P in it? The eye would represent both 'I', a little pun, and the intuition and percieving thing too. How bout it?

Love the idea. Not keen on the colors, but only because it reminds me of an Easter basket ... is that too culturally restricted a comparison?

Why not try for a cool black + neon green color scheme... I might be able to pull some legs with art-people I know and get it done...

Exclamation Re: Help us with a forum logo

Or how 'bout we make it look like green terminal-text on a black background (thus, it would be in asccii font), so it would evoke the intelligence and evil of a hacker, and be distracting from its true meaning at first?

How about, as described above, the following:

Quote:
aEStheticFJ: Have you ever heard of intpforum.com?
fINTiP: Oh really?
And of course, I know all of you will find it appealing that it will confuse lots of people, yet attract those who are insightful enough to see past it (As well as attracting the curious, while dismissing those who are less curious individuals, who are not interested in solving what does not easily present itself).

I could do this, if anyone finds it interesting, pretty darn easily... just a little typing in IRC in terminal with a friend, do a prntimg, and a little cropping.

Heres my submission -- tell me what you think (pretty much anything on it can be changed).

And here I've changed the text and made the eye darker:

I guess the lone dude signifies our introvertedness, and the ocean could symbolize the way we think ("limitless horizons").

Eh.

It looks like a banner for some kind of recovering support group. It doesn't have the right 'feel' to it.

Sorry that this isn't more constructive. :\

Maybe if you made the letters black and darkened it a bit? And I'm not a big fan of the 'eyeNTP' thing on the right. Too easy, you know? Too simple. We're a bit more complex than easy puns.

(Forgive the perfectionistic tenancy here... I guess, really, that this in general would be considered adequate. Perhaps I'm too picky.)

Heres a quick edit I just did before heading off to work:

Do you think I need to go with a new font? I could also just start all over -- in which case ideas of which direction to take would definitely be appreciated.

I have a forum myself and know exactly what you mean by "the right feel." Unfortunately, I probably haven't been around here long enough to pick up on that feel yet. I really wouldn't mind starting over, as long as you give me some direction to go in.

Well that explains a lot.
I just got onto the forum on a computer at my college. Apparently my home monitor is extremely dim, because that was the first time I've ever seen the nice background grays. At home the background looks more or less black.

So err, yeah. Don't use any of those banners -- they really don't go with the current color scheme. I may try and make something better tomorrow, but I'm actually kind of interested in what Dissident is going to do.

You don't know very much about JPEG. I used to make that assumption too, but because of the way JPEG works, it is unable to store information without losing some of it. A compression level of 0 does not mean no compression, it means the lowest amount of compression that JPEG does. It's still lossy; if you want to store an image losslessly, use PNG.

If you want the best compression you can get with PNG, I'd recommend this script:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
optipng -fix -i0 -o7 -zm5-9 "$@"
advdef -z4 "$@"
advpng -z4 "$@"
in that order. (You'll have to install OptiPNG and AdvanceCOMP first.) You can sometimes get better results with -zm1-9 instead of -zm5-9 on the optipng line, but those cases are so rare that it's not worth the extra time it takes.

the first of those three options was the nicest.

the deconstruction of.. a garbage can? shows the INTP way more than a simple brain does I think.

show the thought process, not the thought source.

Perhaps by one form of logic, but it gives off the wrong impression... trash cans have connotations too, you know. Not very good ones.

I never thought brains looked ugly.

I have more to say, but I need to leave.

So I guess that banner wasn't up to par. Perhaps if you gave some kind of serious open opinion on it I could attempt to make it better?

I'm an INTP -- I don't really have feelings. Go ahead and say however you feel about it so I can either rework it or give up.

No, we have feelings, we just try to ignore them and hope they'll leave us alone.

Maybe our lack of a logo is symbolic. We're too indecisive; we can't agree on a logo.

Murkrow, I just realized-

-is your avatar one of the new pokemon?

Jesin, maybe our logo should just be a simple text box saying, "we couldn't decide on a logo... until we do, this is in its place."

Also- I cannot think of any other word that has the letters I, N, T, & P in that order other than "Introspect" and its derivatives. Maybe just the word "INTROSPECT" with bold as shown?

Murkrow, I just realized-

-is your avatar one of the new pokemon?
No, actually, it isn't. We're now in 4th generation now, and we're up to a total of 490 Pokemon. Murkrow was from waay back in 2nd generation; it was number 198. It's been out for manymany years now.

As to your logo ideas, they all sound good in some way or another, but I'm not sure if we should use them or not.

By the way, murkrow, that avatar has suffered severe JPEG damage. I've prepared a new one for you, but I can't figure out a good way to send you the file.

They're all new after the original 151, my friends.

I think we have enough options then to create a poll, with one of the options being "none of the above, we should keep creating until we find something that completely satisfies the pursuit of perfection inherent to 'P' type folks."

It's good enough quality for a forum avatar, no?

As cool as that looks, it kind of reminds me of a cross between the Matrix and Harry Potter.

Intrepid also has INTP in the correct order, but introspect works rather well. Much as I'd like to be described as intrepid, I can't say it is necessarily descriptive of INTP's as a whole.

Are you asking for a logo, or a banner? Or both?

I imagine a shield, like a heraldic emblem kind of like the ones universities use... with a brain coming out of a book in the middle of it. And the letters INTP on the corners. Or something similar. Or not? Too cliche?

Maybe a tree, but the canopy becomes a brain? Symbolizing intellectual growth? And the multiple branches of knowledge? heh.

I'm quite good with photoshop, but mainly for actual photo manipulation, rather than graphic design... But I have plenty of time, so I'll see if I can come up with anything decent.

[edit... what about this? We like language, and word games, and such...]

I like the ones by bborps, the ones with the dissected machine things, not the brain.
