Default Axes of Experiences

This thought is a work in progress, so build on or attack as you deem fit.

I was thinking about how different people experience life. I hear a lot about passion out in the world, over and over. Everyone wants to find out about your passions. I feel like I haven't really pinned mine down. So, what are the things that bring out your passion?

I don't know if I can express this properly, so please bear with me.

I know some people out there are driven by excitement. Running, jumping, playing, screaming, partying... all those kind of things. These people are most alive doing these things. Boredom is also their antithesis - I think. They literally feel unwell when they're bored, or made to wait. They have to get out and do!

I'm going to call this an axis of experience... Boredom<->Excitement

At a guess, I think people probably have several of these axes, so it gets to be like that political leanings chart I'm sure you've seen one of before... (E.G. this thing...) Together, multiple axes will define an area of passion and an area of dispassion?

But I don't think most (or any) INTPs live along the Boredom<->Excitement axis. So, what are the other axes people can live along? Here's a few guesses about mine:

Unjust<->Just

(Bland?Ordinary?Flawed?)<->Beautiful/Sublime/Melancholy (something like that...)

Delusion/Ignorance<->Clarity
(maybe a subset of Just/Unjust somehow?)

Not my own, but I suspect there may be an axis along Alone<->Together

What do you all make of this? Does anyone have additional, or more refined axes to offer?

*Further thoughts; any given activity might appeal to one or more axes... But if it doesn't, participating in that slinks down into boring, soul-less, crap that you can't be bothered to do. Particularly if it's contrary to any of your axes?

This reminds of an interview I once went to a few years back. It was going very well, I could see they were impressed and then suddenly one of the interviewers asked what was I passionate about in life. I really couldn't thing of anything and so I blurted out the first thing that came to mind, logic.

I pretty much alienated my interviewers, I tried to explain why rationality was so important to me and what a strong sense of reason could bring to a workplace, but HR people are usually Fs so the interview ended rather shortly after that.

This reminds me of the D&D alignment axes. Good <--> Evil and Law <--> Chaos

As far as other axes, you covered plenty of the bases. I'm not quite sure about the idea that every person operates along a single axis. I think that we may have to think three-dimensionally here. Envision perhaps 3 axes, x, y, z, inside a cube. Perhaps a single, or even two axes would work with simple, uni-faceted people, but I think that some people are too complicated to be summed up in any less than 3 axes.

If you wanted to go even farther (say with multiple personalities?), then you start having to think in 4-D, and we don't need that argument here.

I like Fact, Science, Logic, Learning, understanding, Books and being alone.

I dislike people, crowds, people that have no common sence or individuality, people that dont read, people that dont look deeper into things and wonder and discover.

Most people are like the tip of an iceberg, very predictable, all their personality seems to be on show upon immediatly seeing them, i like to think intps are and like to focus on the rest of the iceberg beneath the water. because that the amazing part, not what presents itself upon immediate sighting

That probably makes no sense *head desk*

To The Fury - Indeed! I know exactly where you're coming from. This idea came out of thinking to fulfill a need. As I said, there's a lot of emphasis on passion out there and it would do us good to know how ours relate to other's passions... What other people readily understand and what they do not.

Logic and Rationality seemed to be completely foreign to them... But I find typical 'fun' things mystifying... I called them Boredom<->Excitement above, but I don't think that's really it. What is a better word to encompass things like raves, rock concerts, skydiving...?

* * * * *

For Kianara - No, I certainly don't think anyone has a single axis... There may be a lot of these per person - it's very hard to say. I'm willing to speculate each person may have one to three primary axes and a variety of lesser ones...?

And, yea... the modeling was definitely going to be a mess... I'm actually thinking it's a lot more linear than I first imagined, because there's really only one dimension to this going from Dispassion to Passion.

* * * * *

To Sciencegirl - welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your time here.

You, too, mentioned logic. I think that may be related to the delusion<->clarity I have above, but I can't quite think of a synthesizing word.

Don't worry about it, you don't need to impress anyone with stunning displays of thinking right off... I appreciate you made an effort! I do agree, but I don't think I can wrap it into the topic quite so well.

Perhaps it would more accurately represent what you are trying to convey by calling this axis Activity vs Inactivity. For it is certainly possible to be perfectly sedentary and still excited. Reading, television, etc.

Hm, this one is puzzling to me. Would it mean that people either live according to what they know is right and wrong vs acting without regard to right and wrong? Or maybe more universally, with self interest vs communal interest?

Status quo vs progressive change/uniqueness?

As far as these axes of passion , it seems that some would be best if operated to one extreme while others might be better in a middle ground. Not sure if this is significant, just an observation.

Hm I don't know if what I'm saying makes much sense, mainly I'm trying to understand where your coming from on these and get on the same page. I will think on this some more.

p.s. your text format is complex with all the colors and such lol , cool though and nice to read
